XANA had been thwarted in his attempt to attack the lake. Jeremy and Aelita were now looking forward to spending a little time together, especially after working tirelessly on a new program together, one that just proved itself useful in the last XANA attack. This would be the first time that they went camping together.
After finding a spot just far enough away from the rest of the class, they put up their tents. Well, Aelita did most of the work. Jeremy tried, but after spending ten minutes in failure, Aelita shook her head, smirked, and said "Let me do it!" as she grabbed the tools from her boyfriend's hands. He awkwardly stood there, embarrassed; he had lost his big chance to show what a handyman he was.
After nightfall, the two of them gazed up at the sky. Jeremy told her all about the constellations. She listened with great interest as he regaled her with Greek myths that corresponded with the various star clusters. She half tuned out whenever he started getting into the more scientific and technical aspects of stars. She had to admit though, watching him prattle on about science minutia was very cute, and she sat there looking at him, smiling.
When the two of them turned in for the night, they each went to their respective tents. Aelita had another nightmare about being chased by wolves in the woods. Her typical nightly fears were amplified by the fact that she actually WAS in the woods tonight. Typically, she could hold her doll, Mister Puck and go right back to sleep, but she didn't take Mister Puck camping with her. She got out of her bedroll and walked over into Jeremy's tent.
"Jeremy, I had another nightmare." Aelita told him.
"Oh, Aelita, I'm sorry, but it was only a dream, nothing is going to happen to you on my watch." Jeremy replied to her.
Aelita walked over to his bedroll and covered herself up. She lay down on her side next to him, putting one arm around his chest, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Uh, Aelita… what are you…" Jeremy began his protest. Aelita interrupted him with a kiss.
"Jeremy..." She said with a smile. "Shut up and go back to sleep."
The two of them were able to go back to sleep quickly. Aelita especially, now that she had her life-size Mister Puck.
