Hey everyone! This one is based on the amazing prompt submitted by MiaBrown from the Miraculous Fanworks Server! Congrats on getting bingo for your Shanghai board!
The prompt: Marinette knew drinking and texting was a dangerous combo, but she couldn't help it. She really wanted to show off the top-notch pillow fort she built, and who better for this honor than Chat Noir? if kisses and/or identity reveals ensue, I'm not opposed
I hope I did you justice! Thank you so much to JuliaFC who beta'd this for me! Love you!
Enjoy!
"Stupid, pillows. Stupid, blanket," Marinette grumbled under her breath, her smile just a little too bright as the blanket finally stayed in place under the weight of the books.
She giggled, turning in a circle as she clapped excitedly. It had taken her longer than she expected, BUT, it was well worth it. As she put her hands up, she took a mental picture of her precious work. "Click," she said out loud.
"Tikki! Tikki! Isn't this the most perfect pillow fort you've ever seen?!" Marinette squinted her eyes, wondering where her kwami had gone. She quickly climbed up the ladder, pouting when she saw Tikki snuggled up on her little bed fast asleep.
"Awww, you're so cuuuuute Tikki," Marinette cooed, leaving her kwami alone to sleep and making her way back to her magnificent pillow fort.
She grabbed her phone from her desk, scoffing at the time. It was barely even midnight. She grabbed the coffee cup and took another sip, once again noting that strange but pleasant flavor. She hadn't been able to find any creamer in the fridge, but she had found this one in the cabinet, thankfully.
Her brows furrowed, staring at her masterpiece.
This was too magnificent to not share with someone . The rational part of her brain that was still working warned her that Alya and the girls would all be asleep by now. There was a very slim chance that any of them would answer, and even if they did, she knew they wouldn't be happy about being woken up.
"Ugghhh," she groaned, tugging at her pigtails.
Then it hit her, and she scrambled to get her phone open. There was one person she knew who was notorious for being up at midnight.
She opened the messenger app, grinning ear to ear.
Purrincess: KITTEN WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP
Purrincess: UP GET UP
Purrincess: CHAT NOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRR
Purrincess: I KNOW YOU ARE UP ANSWER MEEEEEEEE
Purrincess: Fine i'll just change your name then
*Purrincess has changed BraveKnight to ScaredyChat*
ScaredyChat: First off, how dare you purrincess
ScaredyChat: Second, I am awake and I was too busy laughing at your rapid fire texting to respond
ScaredyChat: third, what is going on, are you okay?
Purrincess: COME OVER RIGHT NOW
Purrincess: YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS!
Purincess: stupid handsome cat, why is he taking so long…
ScaredyChat: uh… *blushing* did you mean to send that?
Purincess: I didn't sent anything, where are YOU?!
Purrincess: I NEEEEEED YOUUUU
She heard a thump above her and squealed, telling him before he could knock, "Come in! Unless you aren't Chat Noir, then go away!"
He popped open the hatch and jumped down, staring at her worriedly. "Princess, are you really okay?"
She waved him off. "I'm fine! LOOK!"
She grabbed his hand and pulled him to stand in front of the giant pillow fort. His eyes brightened as he said it, "That's the most impressive pillow fort I've ever seen."
"RIGHT!?" Marinette said, hugging him tightly from the side. "I just KNEW you'd love it, and that you'd be up. I swear you really are nocturnal. Tikki on the other hand, isn't. She's already passed out on her little bed. She looks sooo cute," Marinette rambled, not noticing how Chat Noir stiffened in her arms.
"Wait, wh-what did you say?" he tried, wondering if he'd heard her wrong.
"Tikki, cookie devouring little god. She's a little," Marinette giggled, "bug."
Chat Noir stared at her wide eyed, watching her sway slightly as she walked to her desk. She took a large drink from her thermos, smacking her lips. "This is the best cup of coffee I've ever made! You want some Kitty?"
"Uh, no… thank you." He watched her shrug and take another drink as he whispered it lovingly, "M'lady."
"Suit yourself " Marinette said before putting the thermos down and running up to hug him again. "Thank you. Thank you for being you and being amazing and wonderful and just the most purrfect Kitty I could have ever asked for."
His heart lifted, hearing the softness in her words as she squeezed him tightly with a happy hum.
He hugged her back gently, his enhanced senses picking up something that made his nose wrinkle, "Princess!" He sniffed her hair, making her giggle. "Chat stop!" But it was when she spoke that he knew where the source of the smell was coming from.
"Marinette, are you drinking?!" he asked, too shocked to hide the hint of reproach in his voice.
She frowned at him angrily. "NO! The only thing I'm drinking is coffee you mangey, still annoyingly might be somewhat devilishly handsome, stupid cat." She crossed her arms, wrinkling her nose at him. "Thinks he's all dashing… stupid smug, handsome face. Stupid, beatiful eyes."
His ears perked up at her words, despite her being angry, and his stomach fluttered happily at the idea that she found him handsome. Did that mean… he actually had a chance?
Marinette stuck her tongue out at him. "Just for that, you can't have any of my amazing coffee AND you can't have the password into the world's greatest pillow fort."
"You wound me purrincess. Tell me what I can do to get the coveted password." He took a few steps towards her, hearing her huff as she turned away from him. Her gaze went back to the thermos and he reached it first, holding it well above her head.
"How about the password in exchange for amazing coffee?" He took a subtle whiff from the thermos and knew that he could smell the alcohol. As she swiped for it, he held it up away from her again. "Oh no purrincess, you won't be getting your claws on this again. I think you've had quite enough."
"Chat Noir I can decide how much coffee I can handle, gimme!" She jumped up, trying to reach but thanks to his growth spurt, she didn't stand a chance.
He tried to get it out of her carefully, knowing this wasn't something she would have done on purpose.
"What's so special about this coffee huh? I think your coffee is always spot on." He threw the pun in there, watching as her Ladybug determination shined through.
"Really, you HAD to go there?" She reached for her hip, no doubt looking for her yo-yo to hit him. When she came up empty, she groaned. "Ugghhh, just wait."
He chuckled. "M'lady, you know I'll wait for you forever."
She blushed, looking down. "You shouldn't… I'm, I'm not good enough for you Chaton. You or Adrien."
"Adrien?" Chat asked in shock. "What does he have to do with this?
Her face turned red and she crouched into herself. "He's the other boy, stupid blonde boys and their stupid beautiful green eyes."
His mind whirled a mile a minute, connecting all the missing pieces that were left. Happiness he hadn't felt in a long time nearly burst out of him, but her words fully registered and his ears flattened against his will.
"What did you mean.. You're not good enough? Marinette you are amazing!"
"I'm not," she muttered into her knees, still not looking at him. "I can't even form a sentence around Adrien. And you are kind and sweet and I… I can't be in love with you. I don't want to be the reason it happens, I don't want him to come back."
"Him?" he asked quickly, kneeling in front of her. "Him who? Talk to me."
"Blanc… Chat Blanc. He was so angry, so hurt, all because he thought I didn't love him anymore, but I did. I do, I love you so much that pretending I don't makes me feel sick." She grabbed at her head. "But I still love Adrien too. I can't, I shouldn't feel this way. I'm the Guardian, I'll only end up hurting you both."
"Marinette that's not true," he promised, lifting her face and meeting her watery eyes with a warm smile. "You could never hurt me, knowing that you love me, nothing can get between us. You and me against the world, right Bugaboo?"
She threw her arms around his neck, crying uncontrollably. "I don't want to lose you, not more than I already have."
He lifted her up, letting her cling onto him as he moved them from the floor to her chaise. He let her rest comfortably against him as he promised her softly, "You will never, ever lose me Marinette. Claws in."
She pulled back, her eyes widening before she hugged him tighter. "I'm sorry Adrien. I'm so sorry."
"I'm sorry if I ever made you feel like this was a burden you had to carry on your own. I'm here for you, I promise." He pushed a loose strand of hair out of her face, tucking it behind her ear. Her face flushed a beautiful pink, ocean eyes meeting the forest of green.
"I just want…"
He thumbed her cheek as she went quiet. "What Bug?"
"You " she whispered, reaching up and placing a gentle kiss on his lips that sent shivers down his entire body. She hummed, snuggling herself under the crook of his neck. "And more coffee."
"You want me to get up?" he teased, feeling her body relax against his.
"Nuh uh.." she muttered, her breathing slow and even. He smiled when her arms loosened around him, and he placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Sweet dreams princess." He waited a few more minutes, just to make sure she was sleeping soundly, before lifting her up and putting her in her own bed.
He ran his hand through her hair, Plagg whispering it, "She doesn't seem like the type who'd drink on purpose."
"She's not," je said knowingly. "We'll come by in the morning and pick her up for school. Hopefully she'll remember what happened tonight, and can tell us."
He smiled lovingly before transforming once again, using his baton to take a picture of her amazing fort to remember this night.
When he arrived at her house in the morning, Sabine ushered him into their kitchen to have breakfast. He noticed the bottle off to the side and asked Sabine curiously, "Is that alcoholic coffee?"
Sabine smiled. "Yes. A few friends of Tom's recommended it as a baking ingredient. I was testing it out with a recipe last night, and the coffee bread I made came out pretty good." She smiled at him. "Not that I'm going to be offering you that of course."
"Oh no, none for me, thanks!" he said happily. "A cup of coffee would be nice though."
Sabine poured him a cup, opening the fridge and frowning. "Uh oh, we are out of milk. Will heavy cream do?"
"Yes ma'am, that's fine."
"Ugh, Maman, I have a headache, and I had the weirdest dream that Adrien was here." Marinette pulled up the chair next to him, and as she slumped against her arms, he smiled at her.
She turned slightly, squinting her eyes. "Adrien?"
"Good morning princess," he teased.
Her eyes widened and she jumped up, falling to the floor with a squeal. "ADRIEN!"
He got up quickly, hearing Sabine laugh. "Marinette are you okay?!"
He kneeled next to her, offering her his hand, as she finally realised what he had just said and spurted out a shaky, "Wait, wh-what did you call me?"
"We'll talk about it later, up you go princess." Grinning, he helped her to her feet.
Sabine smiled at them before turning to Marinette, "Oh, honey. This may look like coffee," She held up the bottle, "but it's not, so don't mix it up with cold coffee in the fridge all right?"
"Yes maman," Marinette said, eyeing him curiously. When Sabine went back to the bakery, Marinette barely managed to keep her voice down.
"You, you stupid Chat, it's you isn't it?!"
He grinned. "Well that didn't take long. Hi bugaboo."
Her face paled. "You… you know? How?"
"You texted Chat Noir last night about your amazing pillow fort." He pointed over to the bottle. "And you were drinking that. You said a lot last night."
She facepalmed, groaning out loud. "Ugh, I'm such an idiot." She peered through her hand, asking slowly, "what, exactly did I say?"
He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling his face warm. "We don't have to talk about it. I knew you weren't yourself so we can forget—"
"Chat," she deadpanned. "Be honest, did I… did I say something mean?"
He chuckled. "Sorta, but you didn't hurt my feelings. You kept talking about stupid blonde boys and their stupid beautiful eyes." He hesitated but knew he needed to tell her. "You also mentioned someone named, Chat Blanc."
Her eyes widened in horror and he told her quickly, "I have a feeling that is me akumatized, Chat Noir at least but, I don't remember ever,"
"I stopped it," she promised, trying to keep herself together, "before it could ever happen, Bunnyx,"
"Ah," he said, stopping her as it started to make sense. "But once you know, you know."
She nodded and he told her gently, "You don't have to talk about it now but, I'm here, whenever you are ready."
"I'm sorry." Her forehead hit the counter and he ran his hand over her loose hair the way he had last night.
"Don't be sorry. I know with the secrets, you feel like you have to keep everything locked inside. The best secrets are the ones you never share, right?"
She peered up at him, but didn't move further. He continued playing with her hair, not letting the silence hold for too long. "I hope you meant the other thing you said because, I love you too Marinette."
She shot up, her eyes glistening. "I…" He didn't have to wait more than a single breath before she hugged him tightly, "I do love you, Adrien I love you so much. Pretending that I don't makes me feel sick."
He buried himself in her shoulder, breathing her in. "Princess, will you go out with me?"
Her response was a searing kiss, and that was all the answer he needed.
