***Hello, everyone! Welcome to my AU fanfiction based entirely on some Lawlight prompt that talked about Light's initial boredom with the world turning into depression and taking a toll on his mind. From there, my psychologically-informed muse took off and created this idea. I own none of the cool stuff, and let's go!
Prologue: An End, A Beginning
A young man stayed immobile in the corner of the institution room he'd called home for two years now. The therapist left his room with no intent of coming back.
As the door slammed shut, the only reaction the young had was more of his unruly brown hair falling into rust-colored eyes that lacked any sort of desire to live.

"I'm sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Yagami. There really is nothing else I can do for him." At the therapist's words, the Yagami family was conflicted.
Sayu bowed her head-at age nineteen, she understood her older brother's mental condition, and understood his mental decay. Tears ran down Sachiko's face silently. So many different therapists had given up on her little boy, leaving his condition to steadily worsen.
Soichiro felt familiar rage at the sentence he'd heard so many times by now, yet he managed to restrain himself. This time, at least. "Is there anyone else you can refer us to?" he asked for what seemed like the thousandth time over the past two years.
The therapist mused over it, looking at the the desperate eyes of a mother, father, and sister who only wanted a seemingly hopeless patient to recover. There was only one person to call for these types of patients.
"I'll give him a phone call. He's a bit... unorthodox in some of his methods, but despite it, he's more than qualified," the therapist said. She went to her office and called a number she hadn't called in a while. She made a mental note of the cost it would be to make the long-distance call to England once again.

It was still morning in England, but it didn't make a difference. L Lawliet had had weird sleeping hours since he was a teenager. He answered his phone when it rang after seeing the number.
"Dr. Kojima. It's been a while."
"Lawliet, can you make a trip out to Japan for a patient? In the Kanto region this time."
"Tell me about the patient."
L listened intently, his thumbnail in his mouth. After the therapist finished explaining, L nodded to himself.
"I'll be in the Kanto region by tomorrow. Please inform the mental institution staff of my arrival, and inform the Yagami family as well."
"Thank you."
With that, L hung up. "Watari?" In no time at all, the elderly butler came over. "Yes?" he asked. "If you could have the plane ready to take off for Tokyo at your earliest convenience. I will find a suite in Yokohama," L said. As Watari walked away, L got to booking a hotel room.
Light Yagami... you're bound to be interesting.
***Was this interesting? I hope it was. The first official chapter is next. Be sure to leave a review on the way out, and I'll see you all in the next one! Bye!
