Welcome to my first ever story! The grammer won't be amazing(yes I spelled GRAMMAR WORNG ;0) but this story is something I have been writing so that I can feel good about the way I procrastinate my time and because I have always wanted to write one. I hope you guys enjoy this first chapter. I will probably write like 10 chapters and then edit all of them in order to make them better/ fill in a bit to make it have better background info and stuff... ANYWAYY ENJOY!
The day has come. Today is the day that I put everything on the line and start my journey as a trainer. I have spent the last 4 years of my life preparing for this day and nothing will hold me back from succeeding.
My family could never afford much… we lived in the ghettos of Viridian city and although we did not have much my parents were dedicated to making sure we lived without owing anyone anything. Here in Viridian if you owe anyone anything then you WILL pay them back with SIGNIFICANT interest. The ghettos of Viridian are filled with drugs, gangs, or criminals, and my parents wishing better for me signed me up for the top school in eastern Viridian: Viridian Academy.
It is a school that is based on teaching you the things you were passionate about, and I was passionate about only one thing: Pokémon. Even as a child I always had an incredible bond with my father's Machoke and my mother's Kirlia, as a result all my classes were focused on following those passions.
However, when my parents found out that I was pursuing being a trainer instead of something like a Pokidoctor, or a Pokémon criminal cases lawyer they begged me to change into something else… ANYthing else. They tried begging, bribing, and even commanding until I begged them in tears to reconsider.
Now my parents were only looking out for my safety because the Pokémon world you see as a kid where Pokémon faint with squiggly eyes was a fantasy, and in reality being a trainer was single handedly the most dangerous and most profitable career in the world. As technology developed to make training Pokémon safer so did the competitive battling area until it became bigger than any sport. It was the dream of every kid to be a trainer but as you grow older and realize the cute Dragonite toy you had in reality could incinerate you and leave no trace of your existence… it gives you a reality check to say the least.
It is the reason the Pokémon league decided that new trainers had to be at least 16 years old. However, the hype of for being a trainer was something I felt so passionately for that I was the top student in the academy. Both my parents were young when they started training and after spending a couple of months in the wild, they returned home both scarred and devastated with only a badge between them to show for it. They never spoke to me about their journeys.
They finished high school went to college and fell in love there before having me, which made it hard for them to financially deal with everything, so they decided to quit school and work in order to provide for our family regardless of the situation. Although they reached out to both sides of their parents for help… they were rejected and had to survive on their own, which is how I am here today. Anyway… where was I… RIGHT!... after hours of arguing we talked to my counselor who advised my parents to at least give me a couple of months in the journey and if I don't have success, I can always comeback and use my knowledge to get into any Poke-Med university and finally they conceded and agreed to let me journey but I wasn't to expect any financial backing from them… which mean I had to ace that final trainer exam.
The exam decides your potential as a successful trainer and ability to bond with Pokémon by testing you in a written exam, oral exam, and battle simulation. I had already gotten perfect scores in all my classes so really the hardest part will be the battle simulation. Depending on how your points average out from each of the three categories you would be provided a starter Pokémon and a starter pack, which included things like: pokeballs, potions, tm's, vitamins, and a fund. All of which would be based on your success rate on the test of course, but I had to do this the smartest way.
Last year the top scorer supposedly received a Charmander as a starter and was given a $50,000 cash fund but… according to rumors his Charmander had killed him after going through evolutionary rage and hunters had stolen his Pokémon and his cash fund because he had not put into an account yet. To be honest, it was near impossible to find some of the starters and I would prefer a psychic as starter so that I could avoid something like that because they are more intelligent, but I was not ungrateful…I would take a Rattata if it were given to me.
Therefore, I had spent my entire time at the Academy trying to avoid attention by avoiding confrontations, participating in the least amount of after school activities I could get away with and always fitting just enough not to be noticed. The goal was simple: avoid attention and avoid connections so that once you get your stuff you can slip out quietly without developing a reputation and avoid getting robbed and mugged. In the ghettos if you show a little too much of anything… your life has just gotten much much more difficult because every person will have their eye on you and if you are not in a gang… it is a death sentence.
My father was respected as the manager of the grocery store because he always looked out for everyone even if our profits hurt every month, but he always said that he did not care. As a result, he had great relations with everyone, and his store was considered a safe zone in the ghetto because it was a haven for kids who came after school in the restaurant section for free tutoring and play time in the indoor arcade for free. Therefore, almost everyone knew me, and I knew everyone but behind those smiles that greeted me I knew that if I flashed even a single hundred poke bill… someone would not hesitate to do the unthinkable. My goal was to get my stuff during announcements… slip out from the ceremony and spend my last day home at the PokeCenter before going out on my journey the next day. Plan is set…it is time for action.

"Young man slow down or something else will do it for you" hollered Mrs. Elizabeth and I simply just smiled and waved before jumping off the ledge of the miniature sidewalks into the actual path before continuing on sprinting, feeling the cool breeze washing over my sweaty and sticky hoodie but I just kept sprinting as the sound of gravel beneath my feet became monotonous. When I saw the bus stop up ahead, I jumped up and slapped the metal pole of the traffic light without looking knowing full well exactly where it was without looking. The streets were always full of some sort of junk, and I jumped between them trying to find the gravel underneath all the trash before finally running across the final street.
"beep beep"
"SOOO CLOSE" I yelled as I made it to my stop 3 minutes early as my watch showed my final time of 18 minutes for 3 miles. I sat down and opened up my small notebook of ideas and notes I had been writing for when I finally got my Pokémon. That notebook contained all my training regiment plans I had for my Pokémon based on what I got. It also contained years of analysis and breakdowns of elite level battles and how to maximize the potential of my Pokémon regardless of what I got. I read over my notes again… as I suddenly shuddered in nervousness…no… excitement.
I was so close to being the one thing I had dreamt off and stood up walked into the bus as I heard the bus driver yell.

Alright… we are here Viridian Academy, home of the future's brightest people. I quietly made it past the flawless marble garden area, which probably cost more than the entire ghetto in West Viridian. I walked up the steps and took a turn to the western wing to find the main area for the exam site. I quickly scurried past people to make it to my section and put my stuff down before running to the gym. I heard noises which was not ideal, but I guess I had no choice, so I walked in.
"HEYYY ITS WILL WITH NO WILL" screamed Derrick before I even had the chance to fully grasp the room. Obviously, his entourage of douche-bags Jack and Michael were not too far behind and before I could complete the thought both rushed me from both sides and grabbed me. SOOO... I should probably introduce you to Derrick or what most people call him behind his back "Derrick the Dick". He was supposedly born to a family with some old money from the Wataru Clan and he made sure people knew it. He was captain of the soccer team, even though he hasn't played half the games this season and boasted that his starter would be a shiny Vibrava gifted to him by his grandfather. But if arrogance was his most annoying trait people might overlook it, but what really made me hate him was his nonstop abuse of anyone he considered 'poorer' or 'lower' than him.
Since more than half the school had their rich daddies pay for them to go to this school, they were his loyal fans but to the rest he had no mercy and harassed us nonstop. He loved every moment, and the hope of being a better trainer than him was the only thing that pushed me to be in this hell hole for this many years. Anyway, both his little minions grabbed me, and he came over and said, "I guess your sense in fashion still comes from the donation store huh?" I kept quiet and did not respond. His eyes traveled down my clothing before he noticed the square bump on my shorts which he immediately grabbed and pulled out.
"Well, what a surprise… the nerd has a notebook and look he even has numbers calculating the number of laps he will run his Pokémon." Then he threw the book into one of the shower stations that was still on before screaming "Good luck becoming a trainer without your whittle book you peasant" he spat before he left along with his goons. I immediately ran over to pick out my book and noticed that most of it was still good, and luckily just needed some drying.
I sat there for a minute before getting up with tears running down my face and placed my notebook in my gym bag before taking a shower in a stall and changing into comfy clothes for the exam before leaving the boy's room.
I ran into the exam room and sat in my section.
"Ladies and gentlemen the exam shall start in one minute so please make sure you are seated in front of your computers for the written and oral sections of the exam" blared a computerized voice over the intercom. I stood up straight, positioned myself and counted down from twenty. 20…19…18…17…16…15…14…13…12…11…10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1… "You may begin!"
This decides it all… I cannot fail here…

"WILL WAKE UP! YOU ARE GOING TO MISS THE CEREMONY!" is all I heard before I jumped out of bed and had the quickest prep time of my life.
"MOM where is my BAG?" I screamed on my way down the stairs. "By the door, I didn't want you to rush."
I ran to the kitchen filled a cup of milk and drank it before grabbing some toast, giving my mom a kiss, and running towards the door. "WAITT… WILL… I am going to miss you"
He replied, "Mom I swear I will call as much as I can, and I will visit during holidays!" as he rushed out of the room. "But I am your mom, and I can't help but feel like you have grown up too quickly." his mom said as she started sobbing. Will stopped… turned around and ran back to hug his mom and said, "just wait… I promise I will get you and dad the lives you deserve." Before kissing her on the cheek and running out towards the bus station. Since it was still early in the morning the sun broke though the buildings to give the morning a beautiful glow.
Soon enough he got on the bus and rode to the Academy.
Once he arrived, he quickly pulled on his hoodie ran towards the main atrium in order to quickly get his seat. He found his seat which was labeled with his name and soon enough the atrium was packed, and the announcer started announcing names followed with future career choices.
A majority of the students were focusing a more traditional path when it came to their careers but about 15% of the students chose to be trainers, which meant he had to deal with 40 to 45 kids for the biggest graduation fund. His heart beat hard, he started to sweat until finally his name was called.
He walked up the columns until he was the only one on the path to the stage... taking it step by step until he got on the stage and was given his ceremonial diploma and a trainer's id card attached to it. He took his awards graciously and shook the headmaster's hands before getting down from the stage through the stairs and seating back.
The ceremony seemed to last forever after him but during that time he analyzed every person including Derrick who decided to become a trainer, after which he started staring at his ID which simply had a picture of him with an id number to identify him as a trainer and a single star on top of his picture to signify his level as a trainer.
He could already see his ID filled with every star that could be attained, and after waiting for seemingly a decade it was over and everyone rushed out.
Will waited a while until he noticed most of the eager trainers had run to grab their stuff and then he finally left the atrium and walked up the path until he made it to the main hall where they were handing out all the identical dark blue camo backpacks with only the name tags separating them. He went up to the line with no people and said "Hello, I am here to pick up my bag!" and the lady before him smiled and said, "Id please!" Will proceeded to give her hid ID that he had just received, and she politely took his ID and scanned it with the machine in front of her before running and grabbing his trainer bag and wishing him luck.
He immediately grabbed his bag and ran out with both of his bags to the nearest exit which happened to lead to the stairway, which led to the pick up curb where parents picked up their kids. Obviously both his parents were at work, so he simply walked until he made it to the PokeCenter, which was a couple of blocks from the academy. He walked in with excitement before running over to the check in counter where he scanned his id and got instant access to the benefits of being a trainer in a PokeCenter. He walked up to Ms. Jenny and said, "Hello Ms. Jenny, could I please get a trainer room please?" to which she gave her iconic smile and responded by saying, "Of course! Here is a key card, first room on the right on the main floor. Room 2A." Will quickly thanked her before grabbing the key card and running towards the hall that would lead him to his room.
"Huff puff huff puff"
It was all over… I was safe and sound! Now I could focus on what I had received on my trainer bag. It was very light like most other bags, had a modern design which implied it was probably the newest model, had a great feel and was very comfortable but I was more concerned about what was INSIDE my bag than what it was made out of.

I could literally feel my heart in my mouth. I reached inside and felt a cool and circular object and I pulled it out but once I had it in my hands, I could not believe what I had. A LUXURY BALL… I had done it… I had pulled the top tier starter and the top fund. How did I know? Let me quickly explain how the bags and starters are assigned to trainers.
Depending on your score you could either receive a luxury ball, premier ball, great ball or just a regular ball, and they are obviously ranked from rarest to least rare in Pokémon variety. Additionally, the luxury ball is only given to those who get at least 95% of the points or more, which means I also had received at least 95% of $50,000. I felt like I was in a different reality...this must be euphoria, but this was just the beginning which meant I had to get serious. I quickly ran though my personal bag and pulled out my notebook which I had managed to dry using the sun the day before. I ruffled through the pages making sure everything was in order and read through all my plans.
Step 1. Organize stuff, step 2. Rent Outdoor Battlefield in the PokeCenter, step 3. CAREFULLY Open your Pokeball and introduce yourself to your Pokémon.
Alright first lets get organized… I zipped up my personal bag and put it away then I put my trainer bag on the decently sized bed and started pulling out EVERYTHING. At first it was the basics… the latest PokeDex, a PokeBelt with a limit of 8, and a typical trainer's guidebook, but then it got interesting.
After wearing the belt, I put my ball on it before putting my dex in my pocket. I then quickly read though the trainer guided which gave tips on using your dex, what to use it for, how to use pokeballs, and handle items, which I already knew how to do due to my classes, but better safe than sorry right?
Finally, I started pulling out the Pokeballs from my trainer bag and started counting and organizing them on the bed. There were 10 pokeballs, 6 great balls and 3 ultra and luxury balls. I kept calm as my hands shivered with excitement before putting them back in my bag before moving on to the consumables, which contained 10 potions, 10 super potions, 20 full heals, and 3 large bottles of every type of vitamin.
Again, I put them back into my bag and moved on to the other sections until I had all of them accounted for… only to realize there is an electron interface on my dex that shows all the things I had in my bag. Maybe I should read that trainer guide more thoroughly… Finally, I checked the time and realized it was almost 1pm and I still had not met my starter or eaten lunch… I decided to do both. I grabbed some good old fried chicken, rice and salad from the Center's cafeteria, which absolutely smacked! After enjoying myself, I sat there and just wondered why I was so hesitant to meet my starter. Was it a fear of failure… fear of disappointment or worse yet… a fear of not being able to go back… regardless of anything, it was time.
I dumped my trash and walked over to Ms. Jenny and asked, "Ms. Jenny could I please rent a private outdoor battlefield?" To which she simply replied with, "No problem… I have you assigned to battlefield B and its $20 an hour." Will replied saying, "Thank you so much and ran to the stairs that would lead him down to the battlefield area." Once he arrived, he grabbed his ball from his ball and pressed the white button and a thick red and white energy released a dark, shaggy haired, 4 legged Pokémon. Will look at his starter and he smiled in pleasure.
"Dein Dein No" growled the little Pokémon confused. Will stared at his new starter for a few more seconds before saying, "Hello little guy! I am Will!"
The little Pokémon shrank back in response to this unknown scent and voice before whimpering "deeiin deein eino dinnoo." Will immediately moved to slowly grab his trainer bag and grabbed one of the pokesnax he had grabbed before getting lunch and put it on the ground.
The little Pokémon immediately froze before rushing forward to devour the snack...only for it to trip on its own legs due to the momentum and crash on top of Will, who started laughing. The little Pokémon hesitated before licking Will on the face who kept laughing due to the ticklish nature of the Pokémon's tongue.
Soon without knowing it they were both laughing on the floor together. Finally after a couple minutes of laughing, they both got up and the Pokémon sniffed at the pokesnax before eating the little snack. After which it started jumping and barking in joy, which led to Will giving it a couple more.
After the little Pokémon ate his fill Will started scratching and rubbing the little Pokémon until it was comfortable with him. Then he said," Together you and I are going to build the greatest Pokémon team and become the greatest trainers ever!" The little Pokémon only looked up at him before standing on its feet and posing in a very commanding manner to show its dedication to its trainer.
The little Pokémon liked its trainer and liked his snacks even more, and everyone in his species wanted to become the alpha, but if this trainer said that he could make him the most powerful Pokémon then he would give it his all for him. Will then grabbed his PokeDex, which the little Pokémon immediately went up to sniff only for Will to say, "Alright little guy this thing tells me what you can do so sit still so I can scan you really quick." The little Pokémon immediately sat down on 2 feet and waited excited.

"Man you are packed little guy!" said Will excitedly as he saw the move set that Deino had. Obviously, he had been bred in captivity and his stats were significantly higher than that of a wild Deino.
"So what about a nickname Deino?" The little Deino immediately barked in approval and after a few minutes of Will feeding Deino more pokesnax, and Deino running around tackling everything in sight he came up with a perfect name… "What about Cerberus? hmmm?" The little Deino started jumping around in excitement… with his head faced towards the wrong side of the field. "Over here little guy!" said Will to which Deino responded by turning around and trying to climb Will who was standing.
Will then said, "Alright Cerberus what about we look at some of your attacks?" to which Cerberus immediately started jumping around in joy to. Will walked over to the side of the arena and pressed a button which unlocked a tile on the battlefield which brought out a dummy sandbag target. "Alright Deino use tackle on the dummy!" Which immediately proved to be a challenge as Cerberus started running around in circles trying to find the target. Then Will remembered… Deino are basically blind so he would have to give him more instructions.
"Cerberus use tackle a couple of feet behind you" and immediately Cerberus ran at a very fast pace and slammed into the dummy before running back and doing it repeatedly. Will immediately grabbed his dex and expanded it into notes mode and in the entry for Cerberus he wrote down: 'Cerberus can relocate any object he stimulates by any of his senses. Impressive memory! Take note for future battles.' But Cerberus kept slamming into the dummy and although it looked like every attack was more of a take down, it was clear he was resilient.
"Alright now let's see your bite!" screamed Will. Cerberus immediately sprinted towards the dummy and snapped his powerful jaws that were glowing a grey hue around the dummy's neck. It was an instinctual attack and it showed. Cerberus was a cute puppy… yes… but he also grew into the most powerful pseudo dragon who terrorizes cities and villages for fun. 'Note: Deino instinctively dangerous… careful during evolution or frustrating moments.' After jotting down a couple more of his notes some more, he yelled, "Alright Cerberus, let's see your Dragon Breath now!" Cerberus stopped moving for a few seconds and all of the sudden he screamed, "DEEEIIIINOOOO" and blasted a light blue blast of concentrated air in combination with a weird electric like force that crackled with power which decimated the dummy and smashed against force field that kept the field private. Cerberus immediately hung his head down and started huffing puffing trying to catch his breath.
Will grabbed a pokesnax from his bag and walked over to Cerberus and said, "Come here little guy" sympathetically before giving him a head scratch and feeding him the snack by hand which was caught by one of the Deino's sharp fangs, which cut his skin, and the rough path around Cerberus's mouth scratched his skin to cause it to become inflamed. He immediately pulled back his hand and looked at it in fascination before saying. "Why don't you get some rest in your ball little guy!" Deino obliged immediately and was sucked back into his ball.
Will then pulled out his notebook and wrote 'Dragon Breath contains a lot of compressed air, but the draconian energy is inconsistent and mostly transparent in the attack. Furthermore, endurance in lung capacity, concentration on draconian energy and dark energy must be added to training.' He then finally hit the reset button on the battlefield. Before grabbing his bag and returning to his room in order to take a shower and go to work on his desk. He sat down analyzing the best way to help Cerberus grow into a mighty Zweilous. Will also sat down to try and figure out where to start his journey after his week at the center was over. He spent hours just calculating organizing, planning and figuring out what to do next.
I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of this series. I know I don't have perfect grammar or even a fluent style of writing, but I hope I can develop both those things along with my prose as I write more.
