"You know I can't believe that for the first time. I'm not actually the last to arrive."
"Color me very impressed." Oliver responded dryly from his spot on the ground next to Barry. The three had agreed to each hold down the forts to their own cities, running patrol well into the very late evening trying to give others the opportunity to enjoy the holiday. As it turns out February 14th or now February 15th was a busy night for crime in at least two of the three cities. They had been swapping story updates ever since Barry arrived in Star.
It was now nearly 2 AM. They were still in their suits and were just waiting on Kara to join them for a shared late night dinner agreeing that was all they were doing this year keeping it very low-key unlike the previous years.
Oliver's contribution was the large mass of bento boxes he brought into the bunker earlier that day. Barry later assembled them into a bento castle that was currently standing almost hidden at the back of the bunker and barely seen since only half of the lights were on. Barry thought it was his best contribution but also brought purple flowers he found somewhere in a field now sitting in a tumbler and a giant bag of sweetheart candies he picked up at a gas station.
"Remind me why we stuck Kara on desserts when she's the worst cook of the three of us?" Barry asked, popping in a candy trying to curb down the hunger. He hadn't eaten much apart from Cisco's still sandpaper protein bars a few hours ago.
"Because with any luck it will be something store bought." Oliver replied with a somewhat rueful grin peeking through.
Barry nodded his head in agreement before changing the subject. "Would you say this is the weirdest Valentine's day you've ever had? I mean at least it has to make your top 10."
Tilting his head Oliver considered. "I don't really remember any. Never really had anyone serious or special enough at the time to share it with." He couldn't help but grin at the sappy look starting on Barry's face and just had to kill it. "I mean I still don't, but since you're here I'll take the company."
Barry snorted, needing to switch his sitting position. "Roses are red. Kara is late. Your humor needs work, and I'm so ready to eat."
"Your poetry truly knows no bounds."
They were interrupted by the familiar sounds of a portal being opened above them to which Kara tumbled out laying flat on the ground in front of them cradling a cheesecake and some type of weird metal cube. She growled 'Alex!' up at the ceiling before turning to face them. Barry couldn't help but speak first.
"Babe I know you've fallen for us, but I think you're committing too far."
Kara who still lay flat on her back burst out with laughter, while Oliver rubbed his forehead muttering how terrible that line just was. Not one to miss an opportunity to engage in a bad pickup line back she rolled on her side propped up by one hand and responded with a wink.
"Have you felt my cape? Because it's made of girlfriend material." She lit up seeing Barry snicker quietly to himself, as Oliver shook his head. They got worse every time. Nudging with his elbow Barry prodded his boyfriend.
"Come on your turn."
He let out a sigh. "I'd like to take you both to the movies, but they don't let you bring in your own snacks."
Barry breathed out a quiet 'damn', while Kara merely looked shocked and disgruntled, stuttering out. "That was so smooth! How do you have such a good one?"
Oliver's face was one that was slightly amused. "I was quite a different person before either of you knew me. I...kinda got around back then."
Barry snorted at that understatement but Kara's face looks like she's clued in now. She finally sat up so they were now all facing each other sitting down in a nice triangle. "That's right Barry's told me some stories." Moving to poke his arm lightly. "Billionaire playboy."
Raising his arms in defense as Oliver whirled on him. "Hey I barely said anything, just things you've told me and also that you were kinda a frat-boy."
Glancing between the two of them he raised his eyebrows slightly before responding. "And you were nerds I imagine."
Kara grinned before now poking Barry's arm. "You definitely were and still are. I only hung out with them."
"Yes but a very cool one."
"The coolest."
He finally motioned to the back of the bunker, where the bento box castle proudly stood waiting to be destroyed. "Did you see our Valentine's day gift?"
Kara gasped in delight before taking off to get an up close viewing causing the others to more leisurely follow at a more tired pace feeling the night catching up with them. "Which one of you am I in love with for doing this?"
"Oliver supplied the food and I am just the castle constructor." She gave them matching cheek kisses before crawling inside then right back out as it was a very small space. They each grabbed a handful of boxes before moving back to the center floor where their original spots were. Oliver grabbed them some thermos' which were filled with warmish coffee.
"What's this?" Barry asked, picking up the cube thing that lay next to the cheesecake. Kara eagerly pressed a button on the side and it encased the room with a galaxy like view painting the ceiling as if colored in stars. She then shot a barely contained grin unable to resist quoting.
"Space the final frontier..."
"And you have the audacity to call me a nerd." Barry retorted humorously before moving back to his food.
"Side effect of being Winn's friend and I'm kinda a sucker for space shows/movies. Ooh." Grabbing and stealing Barry's candies before handing him one. "Barry will you?" Choosing the Marry Me one to give him which caused him to smirk before he shrugged with nonchalance.
"I don't know it was a rather lackluster proposal. Where's the ring, the doves, the romance? I feel kinda suitably under wooed."
Oliver gets up grabbing a paperclip from Felicity's space before quickly fashioning it into a ring tossing it to Kara who catches it delightedly. "Brilliant thanks hun!" She moves closer to Barry holding it out in front of her like an offering.
"Bartholomew-"
"Oh not the first name please-"
"Henry Allen." Kara pushed on strongly, talking right over him. "Will you take my hand in sweet sugar bliss next week when we go get doughnuts together."
Barry could barely even keep a straight face as he said yes he would, while Oliver chuckled quietly on the side. They were sometimes idiots in the best way.
"Oliver will you?" Handing him a Be Mine candy.
He takes it considering "If I say yes will you stop calling this the Arrow cave?"
Joint no's rang out causing him to huff. "Fine only because you're cute."
Barry suddenly straightened up making grabby hands for the bag. "Ooh pass it here so Oliver and I can take a turn picking out candies for you." Kara slid it over so Barry could take what he wanted. "Okay let's see what we got. Oliver will you? Before breaking out into a smile and tossing the Hug Me candy at him. Oliver's lips quirked up before leaning over and wrapping firmly around him in a committed hug.
"How far we've come from the first time I tried that." Barry couldn't help but tease.
"Being surrounded by huggers has gotten to me. It's not the worst thing in the world with certain people."
Kara had picked up another box and was almost finished eating it but paused to add. "Missed photo opportunity here should have brought my camera."
"What's the rule Kara?"
A mildly annoyed sigh. "No photos in our uniforms ever period exclamation point. I don't see why we could just do one tiny photo session and keep them under lock and key." Resisting the urge to pout.
Barry patted her hand in sympathy. "One day we'll get him to see reason and have an awesome photo session for you. It's just not going to be tonight."
Nodding Kara moved back to her food.
"Which brings me to yours. Kara?" Waiting until she looked up and held out her hand to accept. He then gave her a brief soft kiss, getting lipstick transfer no doubt. At least it would match his uniform. "X." before moving to wrap her up in a hug both of which were eagerly returned. "O."
Turning to glance up at Oliver, Barry pointed at himself making a questioning face. Oliver merely shook his head with a half shake and smile.
"It's too early to look like Christmas."
Kara slid the bag over to Oliver, as Barry replied. "Your turn Ollie."
Inspecting the bag Oliver pulled out his first one before smiling, tossing it to Barry. "Barry." He caught it seeing the You Shine candy in his hand.
"Bright like a diamond right?" Proudly showing it to Kara.
"We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky." She sang out softly.
Oliver looked on in amusement. "Something like that." He then grabbed one for Kara. "Kara." tossing her another one that read You Are Cute.
She felt herself soften at that. "Aww you are too! This one not so much." Patting Barry's shoulder.
"Excuse me?! Remember who proposed to who just now."
"Well yes but I never said I'm marrying you for your looks, just your money and fun personality."
"Unbelievable," Throwing up his hands lazily shifting his attention to Oliver. "Maybe we'll just get married and leave this one to find another potential rich husband."
Watching as Oliver rolled his eyes before setting the bag and empty food containers aside Kara retorted in amusement. "But do you really think Ray would say yes?"
Oliver and Barry let out startled laughs. "Well he might not if you tell him you're only asking because of his money. Most people like to know that up front."
"You're right besides." Moving to lay down on her right side head once more propped in her hand. "I lied before, you are very cute."
"Thank you."
"Even if you got me hooked on Game of Thrones before telling me that the ending is horrible, I still haven't finished by the way."
He grimaced at that before remembering. "Alright but at least I didn't spoil the ending to Shutter Island. The whole point is the twist ending!"
"Okay hold up general rule if it has been out for over 5 years it is a complete free pass."
"No," With a hard head shake. "That's not how that works." Turning to the impartial third party. "What do you think?"
"I think let's dig into that cheesecake and fall asleep right here."
"I support Oliver's great idea. Well..." Giving the floor they were currently sitting on a dubious stare. "Apart from the sleeping right here part."
Barry agreed his back would not thank him in the morning, if they did sleep here.
Finding some plastic forks from one of the boxes Oliver hands them off before they all move to sit closely enclosing in the pie.
"How do we want to-"
Barry can't find it in himself to wait and dives right in.
"Well that's one way to do it." Kara gets out with sputtered laughter before diving in herself. Hmm chocolate cheesecake is always amazing. Needing no further prompting Oliver digs in as well."At 2:34 am I feel like we can let manners slide."
Barry took his time savoring his first large bite. "Do you guys want to call in sick tomorrow?"
"Can't have meetings all day." Oliver says between bites. What he wouldn't give to cancel those but a good number of them are important and have already been rescheduled before.
"Same," Kara replied in sympathy. "James called an 8 am staff meeting and he's been having a rough week, so I really don't want to call off on him unless it's emergency related."
"Yeah," Barry acknowledged before swiping one final bite. "We're too responsible for our own good. Why else would we have volunteered to let everyone else off to enjoy their night early."
They continued working and eating different sections bickering somewhat.
"Barry, if you get that in my hair I'm going to fling this on yours."
"I was trying to be romantic! Feeding each other is a classic."
"It was a good attempt- no do not feed me especially not at 3 in the morning."
"Alright fine but next time we do this we have spaghetti so we can eat it Lady and the Tramp style."
"Well duh, how else do you eat spaghetti on a date?"
"Well usually one just sticks their fork-"
"Oliver I'm not afraid to fling my piece at you either."
"You can try. I'll just use Barry as my shield."
"It's only because I love you that I would make that sacrifice."
"Alright ceasefire plus this stuff is too good to waste on your handsome faces."
Finally finishing the dessert they let Oliver throw the last of the trash away before reclining back. Curling up where he was, Barry couldn't help a smile at the star filled ceiling. "Even though tomorrow morning's going to suck it's worth it to be with you guys tonight. Happy Valentine's Day."
He heard soft chorusing echoes back. It was a moment before he felt Oliver resting his head on Barry's thigh.
"What are you..."
"Shh pillows don't speak. Move and insert threat here."
"Oliver, I hoped you were joking about the floor part. If Kara and I are too old for this then you're definit- Ouch!" He yelped as his leg was pinched. He was half tempted to retaliate. However before he could he saw Kara leaning down to carry Oliver over to the mats who looked resigned but too tired to argue, unlike Barry never enjoyed being bridal carried.
"You want to talk about missed photo opportunities that would have been a great one."
"Bring him over Kara so I can pinch him again."
Kara laughed, eyes twinkling as she leaned down next to Barry holding out her arms. "Ready to be swept off of your feet."
Raising an amused eyebrow but letting himself be gathered up Barry responded. "Been waiting all night but I have to admit I kinda have a thing for strong people. Tell me, do you work out?"
Her grin widened before trying for a casual. "I do some cycling and lift the occasional train."
Barry laughed before admitting. "It's a nice change from all the times I caught you in the past."
He felt Kara stop in surprise face turning puzzled. "Wait, what? When did you catch me? I don't remember this."
"I mean lately it's happened so often it's kinda become a habit."
"Shut up, it has not."
"Oliver, how many times did it happen this past week?"
They looked over to see Oliver lazily throw up two fingers without ever opening his eyes. Kara felt herself blushing just slightly shifting on her feet.
"Well you didn't have to. I mean other than impacting the concrete it would have done a whole lot of damage to me."
"Hey," Barry said, turning from joking to serious and waiting until she was looking at him. "I'm always happy to do it for either of you. I like making sure you're safe."
She found herself returning the smallest smile. "Me too,"
"Hey Kara?"
"Yes Barry?"
"I think something's wrong with my eyes because I can't take them off of you."
A giggle and small snort echoed throughout the room.
"Well your eyes are like IKEA. I'm totally lost in them."
"Your eyes are bluer than the Atlantic Ocean, and I don't mind being lost at sea."
"I will turn off the lights so neither of you can see the other's eyes."
After being set down Barry resumed his earlier position as Oliver's pillow, while Kara situated herself until she was reclined with her head leaning on Oliver's thigh. "Like we couldn't describe them in the dark anyways." She smiled at Barry patting her own.
"Want me to be your pillow?"
"I thought you would never ask."
Just as they were about to fall asleep Barry realized they still left the lights on and groaned. "Okay on the count of three last to call not it gets the lights. Not it!"
"Not it!"
"...are you kidding me?"
"Sorry Ollie." They said at the same time. When he spoke it sounded like it was coming from gritted teeth.
"You both have super-speed. How is this even a debate?"
"It's your arrow cave Oliver." Kara pointed out while high fiving Barry's outstretched hand.
Oliver flung an arm over his eyes but not before catching a glimpse of the 3:15 on his wrist. Terrific. "If either of you loved me you'd get the lights."
"Whoa low blow man."
"We can always rock paper scissors for it?" Kara suggested.
Opening his mouth to respond Oliver reconsidered, as an idea struck him. "Whoever gets the lights first I'll treat next week to your doughnut date all you can eat." He felt a gust of wind as the two raced to get there. Barry to Kara's minor frustration was still faster when the odds were fair. He didn't even rub it in, when he won.
The next day when Felicity walked in bright and early to get some coding done. She found the three now arranged laying on Oliver with Kara's cape wrapped over them.
"Aww! Hello, new screen-saver." Before proceeding to take multiple pictures.
