Ed, Edd n Eddy in:
Sister Ed
Chapter 1
Spring was in the air in the suburb of Peach Creek. It was an early April Thursday afternoon at Peach Creek Junior High, and students and faculty alike were on pins and needles for the 2:15 dismissal bell to ring. And with good reason, as this was the last school day before Spring Break. Before long, it would be time for the Easter Bunny to make his annual visit, as well as time for some rest and relaxation.
At last, the final bell rang, a welcome introduction to the forthcoming ten-day vacation. As expected, the entire throng of students rushed out of their classrooms and to the outside, ready to begin the last school holiday before summer.
Among all the kids shouting amongst themselves and carrying on, the middle Kanker sister, Marie, quietly exited her last-period class. The black-haired beauty was dressed in her typical warm-weather attire: a sky-blue tank top, a pair of white jeans rolled up at the knees to form improvised capris, and a pair of flip-flops, the color of which perfectly matched her tank top. In addition, Marie's hair was accented with a flower barrette above her uncovered left eye, while her right eye was covered with hair, styled in her beloved sideswept bangs. Finally, across Marie's neck was her most prized accessory: a gold necklace with an "Annemarie" pendant, a gift given to her by Double D two months previously.
As Marie looked around for her sisters to walk home together, she saw Nazz von Bartonschmeer at her locker, wearing an uncharacteristic scowl. After retrieving her books, Nazz gave her gray locker door a slam. Although she had once been jealous of Nazz (to the point of tearing the covering off a stereo speaker seeing the girl dance with Double Dee), Marie had become quite friendly with the blonde girl. Marie ran to greet Nazz.
"Yo Nazz!" Marie called cheerfully. "What's eating you?"
"Oh, nothing," Nazz replied sarcastically. "Just my Spring Break is going to be a living hell!"
"What do you mean?" asked Marie.
"My sister Julia is coming home for the holiday!" the blonde girl elaborated.
"What's so bad about that?" Marie asked her friend.
"You of all people should know!" Nazz exclaimed. "You have to live with two sisters every day!"
"Ok, I admit we used to always be at each other's throats," Marie responded, "but we've gotten along much better over the last couple of months! I wouldn't say it to their faces, but I don't know what I'd do without Lee and May! You should give Julia a chance!"
"Thanks, but no thanks!" Nazz retorted. "When she came home last Christmas, I was ready to put her in a crate and mail her to Siberia! I have to find a way to keep her out of my way for the next week!"
Just then, a familiar voice rang out from behind the two girls.
"Good afternoon ladies!"
Marie and Nazz turned to see Double Dee. Marie immediately ran to her boyfriend, giving him a hug.
"Hey Oven Mitt," said Marie, giving Double Dee a kiss on the lips. "What better way to start our vacation?"
Double Dee and Marie shared a smile, after which the intelligent Ed boy turned his attention to Nazz.
"Pardon my intrusion, Nazz," Double Dee began, "but I couldn't help overhearing your conversation. Why are you so averse to being around your sister?"
"The girl's a total airhead, that's why!" the blonde girl yelled. "I remember when we were kids and slept in the same room...she used to always mess up my bed. Plus whenever she takes a shower, she always leaves her bras and stuff lying around. It's disgusting!"
"While I for one absolutely abhor lack of hygiene and neatness, I feel obliged to offer my two cents on this issue," Double Dee posited. "As you are aware, my twin brother James was tragically killed. Not a day has gone by where I haven't missed or thought about him. The old axiom is really true, you don't know what you have until it's taken from you. So I really believe you should give Julia a chance!"
"No thanks," Nazz retorted, rolling her eyes at Double Dee's heavy-handed moralizing.
Following this exchange, Double Dee and Marie left their friend to join the other Ed boys and Kanker sisters for their walk to the Park n' Flush trailer park. Nazz exited the school building to begin her trek home, a scowl adorning her face.
As soon as the girl stepped outside, the lovely singing of robins and the smell of fresh spring flowers greeted her. The sky was a beautiful blue, the sun shining down with a few cirrus clouds in the sky. All this beauty, however, was lost on Nazz in her current state of resentment. Clearly, she was dreading the prospect of being in the same house as her older sister.
As Nazz approached her house, she discovered, much to her chagrin, a green Volkswagen Beetle parked in the driveway. Julia was currently unpacking the trunk. The young woman bore a striking resemblance to her younger sister, the only difference being that Julia's blonde hair reached all the way to her shoulders, with a ponytail on top.
Upon seeing her sister, Julia broke out in a smile and ran to hug her.
"Nance!" Julia shouted with glee, lifting Nazz off the ground. "I am so happy to see you! We are gonna have so much fun this spring break! You and I have so much to catch up on!"
"Nice to see you too, Jules," Nazz replied unenthusiastically, barely able to breathe under her sister's embrace.
As Julia began enumerating the things she had planned to do with Nazz, the younger girl retreated to the house, slamming the door behind her.
