Author's Note: I wanted to make a Frank Sinatra fanfic and I think it fits well in Back to the Future, so enjoy!
On a Friday in the classroom at Hill Valley High School, Marty, Jennifer, and the rest of the class sit listening to the teacher lecture. Most of the students sit in a daze, their heads resting against their hands, leaning on the desks.
Marty sits hunched over, scribbling a note. He folds it and passes it to Jennifer.
Jennifer opens it. She squints in suspicion. The note reads: I have a surprise for you. Meet me at my house after school.
Jennifer cocks her head at Marty, trying to get some sort of clue. Marty smiles, not wanting to give anything away.
Jennifer walks up Marty's driveway. She sees the DeLorean out front with the door open, and Marty in the driver's seat. He fiddles with the time destination controls.
Jennifer approaches Marty.
JENNIFER
Marty, what's the surprise?
Marty jumps out of the drivers seat and stands in front of Jennifer.
MARTY
The big part of it will still be a surprise, but -
Marty opens the back door and takes out a large cardboard box. He opens it.
Jennifer looks in.
MARTY
You know about Doc's time machine, and since it's our anniversary, I wanted to treat you to the best night you could imagine.
Jennifer takes out a beautiful dress from the box. She looks quizzically at Marty.
MARTY
Uh, we're going to the 1940s.
Jennifer squeals and hugs Marty in excitement.
JENNIFER
You know how big a fan I am of that era! Don't tell me we're going to go dancing or something!
Marty scratches the back of his neck.
MARTY
Uh, it's better than dancing.
JENNIFER
What is it then?!
MARTY
(smirking)
You'll just have to find out.
Marty and Jennifer sit in the DeLorean all dressed up for their night in the 40s.
Marty accelerates and the DeLorean reaches 88 miles per hour.
They appear on the outskirts of Hill Valley in the 1940s. They hide the car in bushes on the side of the road and walk to town.
In town, both Marty and Jennifer take in the sights of a 1940s Hill Valley. Jennifer walks by windows of shops, pointing out all the vintage things and nearly squealing at every window.
They eat dinner at Lou's Cafe, and after, Marty leads her to the theater.
Jennifer goggles at the name plastered above the theater doors in large letters.
JENNIFER
Marty! We're seeing Frank Sinatra!
Jennifer can't help but stare with her mouth open.
Marty chuckles to himself and buys two tickets from the booth.
Jennifer holds on to Marty's arm for fear of passing out.
They take their seats, and shortly after, an announcer comes onto the stage. Jennifer turns to Marty in excitement. She thanks him by planting a large kiss on his cheek. Marty blushes.
ANNOUNCER
Thank you all for coming out to see Mr. Sinatra perform tonight.
Applause fills the room.
ANNOUNCER
But I regret to inform you that we will have to cancel tonight's performance. Mr. Sinatra's plane has been significantly delayed and he won't arrive until late. Your tickets will be refunded and we thank you for coming. Goodnight.
The energy in the air lowers and the crowd starts to talk amongst themselves as they exit.
Outside, Marty and Jennifer sit on a bench together.
JENNIFER
That's a bummer.
MARTY
What do we do now? I had this whole thing planned out.
JENNIFER
You didn't think to come back here and check if he would actually be here, did you?
MARTY
I did come back, that's how I knew about it. I just didn't stick around for long enough, I guess.
Jennifer sighs and looks down at her feet.
JENNIFER
I wish we could at least see him.
Marty's face lights up.
MARTY
Maybe we can!
Jennifer looks to Marty.
JENNIFER
What do you mean?
MARTY
If he's coming in late, and performing tomorrow, then he's probably staying at the Hill Valley Hotel.
Jennifer's face lights up.
MARTY
We could sneak into his room! There's no way we'd get to see him by asking the front desk. We'd have to sneak.
JENNIFER
I'm in!
To be continued...
