A/N: I do not own the characters of Fairy Tail.

"Lucy, where did you sprint off to?" Natsu called out for the blonde, who was not anywhere to be seen inside her house.

Natsu couldn't help but worry for her. Lucy was acting unusually the entire day. It hadn't gone unnoticed by the dragon slayer, how her cheerful aura had dissipated in the air. It wasn't unknown to him that though Lucy put up a 'brave girl' facade, she had her worries always kept inside. He had wanted her to confide in him, tell him all her worries, and he'd hold her in his arms, taking all her agony and giving her assurance that everything would be fine. It was now more crucial to share her worries with him since she was no longer just his 'friend'.

It wasn't too long ago that Natsu and Lucy came to be together, confessing their mutual feelings of love and affection towards each other. From the very first moment they met, Natsu's heart held no doubt in mind she was the one, though he was clueless what his rapid heartbeat and uncontrollable emotions towards her implied in the past. Since he had recently come to terms with his feelings, he didn't take a second longer to fish out the ring that Igneel had given him to give to his future 'mate' and propose to her under a starry night, to be his lawfully wedded wife. Of course, she had said yes, and that night had gone away with the two being in a tight embrace, refusing to let go of each other's warmth.

But the sudden change in her behavior had strung a cord in Natsu that he had never felt before. It was no surprise Natsu was especially protective of her, but it was now that he felt the strongest desire to find her and finally get his answers to what caused her demeanor to be this way. Natsu wasn't the one to give up, so without wasting a breath, he went out the window. His habit of using the window as an entrance or an exit had never gone away.

However, the universe seemed to oppose his idea because the moment he had stepped out, he could see a prominent cluster of grey clouds, ready to release its wrath by uncontrollable showers of rain and probable thunder upon the city. The possibility of rain would worsen his chances of finding her, as the earthy scent could mask Lucy's scent.

He wasn't among the people who liked the rain (for obvious reasons), but he knew that his beloved celestial spirit mage loved the rain. Every rain, she would go out to feel the falling raindrops on her skin. The rain was one of the many things she loved about nature. He had not known what was the actual reason behind that, or more like he hadn't asked yet.

Natsu let his instinct guide the way to Lucy, following the scent before the gentle rain could worsen. His legs broke it in a full sprint as the path seemed familiar. It wasn't long before his feet stopped in front of the Magnolia City Garden. He could see the back of a blonde woman sitting on one of the park benches, as if not caring about how the rain was soaking through every fabric adorning her body. He approached her instantly.

"Lucy, why did you run off like that-"

Natsu's breath caught in his throat before he could continue. The beautiful blonde had tear stains on her cheeks, her hands clutching a bouquet of white and red roses, and her sad eyes now mirrored the shock visible on Natsu's face. His heart wrenched like it was being squeezed hard in his ribcage, just by the broken and disheveled look on the woman he loved.

Did he just fail his duty to stay by her side and share every moment with her, whether sad or happy, even before their matrimony?

"Luce," He called out to her gently after sitting next to her, not thinking about his rain-soaked clothes.

"What happened? Is there anything I should know?" He continued, his voice coming out in a whisper.

The brown eyes of hers looked at him with despair before her arms came to be around his shoulders and her face dug in the crook of his neck. He didn't know what was worse, the blond's cries or the guilt that he had for having her cry alone, that too in the rain.

"Shhh… It's all okay. You can cry all you want. I am here." He caressed her blond locks softly, knowing that was one of the things that brought her comfort. She pulled away from the hug moments later, her face no longer teary.

"I-I am s-so sorry N-Natsu. I just couldn't hold it anymore and I couldn't bear to ruin your mood when we are finally on a break from working jobs for planning our wedding." She sniffled slightly, wiping away at the corner of her eyes.

Natsu's brows furrowed. "You shouldn't be sorry, Luce. However, I am a bit sad that you didn't come to me when you were upset. You know more than anyone that I would never turn you away when you need me. Now tell me, what made you so sad?"

Lucy bit her lower lip, trying to hold in her tears. "I-I d-dreamt that you d-died, Natsu…" She croaked, a tear falling deceptively down one of her eyes.

"I won't die that easily, Lucy. I don't want to leave you all alone here," Natsu replied, holding her hand firmly.

"Natsu, a few days ago, Old Man Crux came to me to warn me that something ominous will take place soon. I didn't want to believe it. Today the sky was so dark and I couldn't help but remember the day my mother died…" Lucy cried a little more at the end. "The day my mother's funeral took place, the sky was just as dark as today. It was like the sky was crying for her loss. I couldn't help but feel so broken thinking about losing you. I also remembered her death anniversary, so I bought some flowers to take to her grave. I even left you a note that I was leaving to visit her grave. But unfortunately, all the trains in Magnolia have temporarily stopped for a few hours," Lucy explained, heaving a sigh at the end.

"Listen, I want you to promise me no matter how big or small anything is that concerns you, you will tell me, okay?" Natsu asked, squeezing her hand slightly.

Lucy gave him a small smile. "I will." She stated, firmly.

"Good. The rain has stopped so let's head home to change out of these clothes then to the railway station. We have a train to catch to Heartfilia estate after all." Lucy looked at Natsu wide-eyed, after hearing his words.

"Are you okay with being motion sick the whole way, Natsu? I don't have any problem traveling alo-" Natsu shushed her.

"Say no more. The motion sickness is nothing I can't handle anyway. We are going to go visit your mother's grave together." He gave her the toothy grin that always melted her heart.

Smiling back, Lucy clutched his hand. "Let's go then."

Walking back, they both realized how they couldn't live without each other. Natsu knew he would regret his nonchalant response of being 'immune' to the motion sickness. However, he was sure that there was nothing in the world that he wouldn't risk if it meant that he could have Lucy in his arms.

A/N: I hope you liked this cheesy excerpt! I know it's corny but there is nothing more heartwarming than having a cute Nalu fluff to read once in a while.
