Chapter 1 Invitations
In the Scottish Highlands where a magnificent castle stands an owl with a letter was flying to it. The owl flew into the room of an eleven year old girl with lion's mane red hair. The young lady, Merida DunBroch instantly spotted it and was given the letter and knew what it meant. "Mother, Daddy, it's here my Hogwarts letter arrived." She explained as she made her way to her parents Elinor and Fergus DunBroch who were in the foyer with her triplet baby brothers. "Ahh! Finally about time that bloody bird came. I was getting nervous for ya lassie." Her father squealed, lifting her up into a bear hug. "Honestly I still think it would be better to send Merida to a different school than Hogwarts." Elinor explained separating the two. Despite both being pure blood wizards and proud alumni of Gryffindor, after what happened a decade ago Elinor lost all faith and trust in the British Wizard Government and thought it would be a good idea to send her daughter to a different school away from the bigoted brats that would surely fill the school. "Now love, we talked about this already, but I'm not sending our daughter to another country just because of those oafs" said Fergus trying to calm his wife. "Besides we raised her to be a good judge of character and she can easily see through cheap bullshit like that" "FERGUS" He was cut off when his wife scolded him for language. Fergus and Elinor are both alumni of Hogwarts and even though they both come from well respected pure blood families they were raised to respect all people magical or not earning the blood traitor title from the 28. So during the war they both chose to fight in a different matter by seeking help from other countries to at least protect the muggle citizens from Death Eaters. "And even if they give her trouble I'll go there myself and tear those brats if I have to" he said. Elinor pinched her nose annoyed and just spoke to Merida. "What have I taught you?" "To judge someone by their actions not their status" she replied. Elinor grinned and then told her husband to make preparations to go to Diagon Alley. Merida knew that there would be some unsavoury characters amongst her classmates, but she believed that the good would outweigh the bad, and if they did try to mess with her she would use them for target practice with her trusted bow. The DunBroch clan was known for their talents in archery as well as magic and also were potion masters so she could come up with some interesting pranks if she wanted to get back at anybody. All in all though Merida was excited to go to school as the village she lives in doesn't have a lot of children her age and what really excited her most of all was making friends.
On the far northern islands of Britain lies the isle of Berk which in the wizarding world is known as the gate of dragons. This community is the epicenter of dragons that live in England. Because of the obvious dangers of these islands only the most competent of wizards live there to fight off wild dragons that could not only bring havoc to Britain, but also expose the existence of wizards. Only a handful of children live here, one of which is Henry Haddock III also known as Hiccup. When an owl appeared over his head with a letter he knew what it was. After reading his Hogwarts acceptance letter he went off to see his father. "Dad it's here." he said as he came up to his father Stoick. Stoick Haddock who was the leader of the settlement was with his right hand man Gobber Belch, a burly man with a hook hand and peg leg due to the nature of his job. "Well looks like you'll be leaving soon, are you ready?" Stoick asked his son. "Yeah but I don't know what to do about Toothless" said Hiccup unsure how he was going to explain this to his best friend. "Aye the poor beast is going to be in for a toozy when he finds out about the travel condition on him." Gobber said as he was nervous on how the dragon would react. Toothless was a rare Night Fury Dragon that was shot down a year ago by Hiccup who was experimenting with a catapult invention he made. Hiccup being one of the few children living on Berk and the only one in his age group and because of his father's twenty four seven job Stoick obviously couldn't spend a lot of time with his father so he spent most of his time in the forge learning to make weapons and other inventions that one day accidentally shot down a dragon. After finding the dragon and spending time with him the two formed an unbreakable bond that goes beyond species and intelligence. Because of his catapult Toothless, which he named him because of his retractable teeth, had a hole in his tail wing so Hiccup built an auto tail that would allow Toothless to fly with Hiccup's help. But their budding friendship was sadly brought to a thundering halt when Stoick found out about Toothless. Stoick held a deep hatred for dragons when his wife Valka was taken when Hiccup was a baby by one of them. So when he found Toothless he captured him and planned to use him to find the dragon nest where most of the dragons in the vicinity dwelled. Hiccup wanting to save his new friend stowed aboard but no one was prepared for what was at the nest for the alpha of the dragons in the Berk Isles was a Red Death a XXXXXX class beast that was considered not only one of the most dangerous of dragons but also one of the most dangerous magical beast in the entire world. An entire army of aurors would be called to slay a single one and even still the odds of anyone getting out alive would be considered a miracle. But after setting Toothless Hiccup and his flying partner went to battle it in aerial combat. Stoick could only look on in horror as his son went to fight the beast, but at the same time he saw that his son was not a frail and shy little boy he believed and he could see his mother's spirit within him. Using ingenuity and impressive aerial tactics the unlikely duo managed to slay the dragon, but at the cost of Hiccup's left leg. Hiccup joked that now he and Toothless matched which the dragon smirked. Stoick and the rest of Berk decided to allow Toothless to stay, but three days after the battle a storm of every major wizard in Britain and their grandmother descended on to the tiny island to learn what happened.
Flashback
When the ministry learned about the red death practically everyone went but the most notable ones were Cornelius Fudge, Barty Crouch Sr., Dolores Umbridge, Amos Diggory, Ludo Bagman, Rufus Scrimgeour, Arthur Weasley, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Amelia Bones, Alastor Moody, Ephias Doge, Emmeline Vance, Pius Thicknesse, and Nymphadora Tonks. Wizard nobility like Lucius Malfoy and Augusta Longbottom were also in attendance as was the Hogwarts Staff of Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape, Filius Flitwick, and Pomona Sprout needless to say it was a huge event especially once they saw the dragon's carcouse. "I can't believe you actually managed to slay it" stuttered Fudge trying to compose himself. "Unfortunately it wasn't me but my boy Hiccup who did this all on his own" explained Stoick. Outcries all calling it ridiculous could be heard by nearly everyone but after Dumbledore and Snape use Legilimency on Stoick and passed the memories to everyone that shut them all up. "Y you're saying that a ten year old boy not only tamed a dragon, but slayed one of the most dangerous beasts in the entire world by himself" squeaked Augusta who couldn't stop shaking after learning of his tremendous feet. "The memories must be altered to gain fame, surely this" chided Malfoy before Snape cut him off "I assure you all as impossible and incredible as this is, I can verify it's the truth." There was a pregnant pause as everyone was digesting this set of information. Amelia decided to speak first "W we should talk to Mr. Haddock just to verify as procedure." Stoick then had Gobber fetch Hiccup who also brought Toothless with him and the sight of the dragon made seventy percent of people there nearly leak themselves. Even Dumbledore had to admit that this was probably the most amazing thing to happen in the wizarding world as a whole in a long time since Halloween ten years ago. Heck what Young Hiccup did could match the battle the old headmaster fought with Grindelwald all those years ago. To say the achievements of this young man we're grand would be an understatement. At the moment though Hiccup honestly thought battling the dragon was easier than being the center of attention of the most powerful and influential wizards in all of Britain. "We should have him under veritaserum just to be extra precautious" said Thickenesse "Are you doubting my abilities" chided Snape feeling disrespected. "Come now with the magnitude of this situation we have to cover every base" said Umbridge siding with her fellow politician. "To use that potion willy nilly on anyone especially a minor is crossing the line and you all know it!" shouted a raged McGonagall. "Besides he's lost a leg you really think he's going that far" said Mad Eye who trusts Dumbledore's Legilimency and wholeheartedly believes this boy is a hero. "I'll take it," said Hiccup, surprising nearly everyone there. "I get it sounds too magnificent to be true so I don't mind explaining everything. I also believe that this will squash all suspicion" explained Hiccup who just became even more incredible in the eyes of most people there. Even if he's ten who probably has no skeletons in his closet yet to willingly accept the truth potion with a logical sense shows he is wise, mature and humble for his age. The Hogwarts Staff thought for a moment that they were looking at his mother Valka. When Stoick and Valka were students they were a well known Pure Blood Gryffindor couple and Valka was called the perfect hybrid of both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. She was both brilliant and courageous and had charisma that just drew people in all four houses. Learning of her tragic fate made all of them tear up, especially McGonagall, her head of house and Snape who he could proudly say that besides Lily Potter she was one of his true friends. All teachers there could say that Valka would be proud of what her son was becoming. All eyes were on Fudge and Dumbledore who the latter wanted to know if Stoick was alright with this and he said if Hiccup was alright with it then he would be as well. After being admitted the potion he recalled everything from how he met Toothless, how he made the auto tail, which impressed all of the Ravenclaw alumni, to how he battled the red death by having Toothless fire plasma bolts at its wings and then luring it to the ground without stop. This had everyone convinced and even more impressed with the boy. "You're bloody brilliant you know that" said Tonks who grew a huge amount of respect for the boy. Hiccup blushed and Dumbledore cut in "Now since you alone slayed the dragon the entire carcouse belongs to you, do you know what you want to do with it?" asked Dumbledore and Hiccup just turned to his father who said "It's your decision." Hiccup pondered for a moment then said "I'll sell it to the ministry since I know I don't need any of it when I go to Hogwarts. "We'll buy it and give you a million galleons" said Fudge and no one protested to the huge sum he's willing to pay knowing that the dragon alone will boost hugely for the economy. "Deal" said Hiccup who thought that it was a fair deal. "Now that we have the dead dragon out of the way, what do we do with the living dragon?" said Malfoy, hoping to get the night fury materials as well. Dumbledore spoke up " I believe that the bond that young Haddock and Toothless share is a sacred pact of a familiar similar to me and my phoenix Fawkes and killing the dragon will damage the boy as well." Everyone including the rich Death Eaters could agree that after seeing the memories that the two have a strong bond of a familiar and that killing Toothless in greed could seriously harm Haddock and an investigation would immediately be called upon where the greedy poacher and anyone connected to them would find a one way ticket to Azkaban. "Wait, if the beast is the boy's familiar then wouldn't that mean it will have to go to Hogwarts as well as the boy?" Asked Lucious who was nervous of having his son and a dragon in the same place. "We will prepare the necessary housing for it so it will be away from the other students unless they have permission." Explained Albus who already was preparing on how to get the dragon situated at the school. Hagrid will be over the moon when he learns he'll get to spend seven years with a night fury. Once all remaining questions were answered half of the visitors left while the other half stayed and thought on how they'll get the carcouse back. A few days later The Daily Prophet went crazy with the story and called Hiccup Dragon Master and said that the boy may become the next Dumbledore. After all was said and done Hiccup went on the rest of the year just preparing for Hogwarts.
Flashback End
Stoick then said "Dumbledore promised he'll get his most trusted friends to get Toothless to Hogwarts." Hiccup smiled at that and then went to tell Toothless the news. After spending time with him Hiccup said "You know Tooth meeting you is one of the best things to ever happen to me, but I'm really excited to make human friends." The dragon looked offended, but he was just joking. Hiccup was just excited to make friends.
In the countryside village of Bibury an owl was making its way to a charming cottage. In the cottage a young girl with incredibly long blonde hair was painting with her pet chameleon Pascal. When the owl arrived on the window the girl, Rapunzel Corona squealed as she knew what it meant. She immediately called for her guardian "Mother Gothel my letter is here" she said as an old woman in her respectable late forties came in. "Well I guess it's time we'll get ready to go to Diagon Alley in a few days so let's pack what you'll need." she said. Gothel had mixed emotions about all this. On one hand going to Hogwarts was an experience that everyone must go through, but on the other she knew that once Rapunzel left her side the risk of danger will follow her. Gothel was once an explorer who wished to find secrets that the magical world has yet to find. One day twelve years ago as the war was going on a muggle born couple sought her out. They were Fredrick and Ariana Corona and they were facing a crisis. Ariana was pregnant, but had fallen gravely ill and there was a strong possibility that she and her child would both die. Healers tried their best, but it seemed hopeless. Fredrick in desperation sought for a cure and found a fable of a flower known as the Sundrop that was said could heal any wound or sickness. Knowing that it was a longshot he asked Gothel who was known as an remarkable explorer for help. After months of search the pair miraculously found the flower and used it to heal Ariana. When Rapunzel was born they noticed she had blonde hair which was odd since her parents were both brunettes. Gothel suspected it could be a side effect of the Sundrop and took Rapunzel to a contact to see if there were any side effects as Frederick stayed with his wife to help her recover her strength. While Gothel and the newborn were gone a horrific tragedy occured as Death Eaters lead by Bellatrix Lestrange killed Frederick and Ariana on their campaign to cleanse muggle borns from their society. Gothel adopted Rapunzel and went to the countryside to hide her from the war. Even after the war ended Gothel learned that the side effects were more incredible and horrifying than she could've imagined. Rapunzel had inherited the sundrop's healing powers and could call upon it through a song. Another side effect was that her hair became impossible to cut. Gothel knew that if any one normal wizard or Death Eater found out about her gift she would be hunted for the rest of her life. So Gothel taught her to never reveal her gift to anyone and kept her close to her side for eleven years. Rapunzel knew that Gothel did this because she wanted her safe and she was grateful, but she always wanted friends and to be a normal girl so going to Hogwarts despite the risk of her gift being discovered excited her.
In Diagon Alley an owl headed to a toy store that was owned by an old toy maker Nick St. North. North knew who the letter was for and went to find the recipient. "Jack, your letter is here. Jack?" As he went into the boy's room he was splashed with a bucket of water. "Very funny" he said amused as he heard laughter. "Sorry this is my last prank and I wanted it to be memorable." He said as he went to fetch some towels. "Jack, I know you like to joke around, but it's time to get serious. We need to get ready to buy school supplies" said North as he dried off. Jack suddenly became quiet and then said "Sorry it's just I'm nervous about going away and not getting to see you for a while." North then replied "This isn't goodbye Jack we'll keep in touch with owls and I know you'll be able to make friends at Hogwarts." Jack smiled at his guardian's reply and then frowned. "I'm also scared about my nightmares. I can still see their faces as they froze" he was cut off as North hugged him. "It's okay I know you miss them." He replied as ruffled Jack's hair "Now get the Twinetender and come down for dinner" as North left his room Jack went to his closet and got his family's staff. This staff is a family heirloom that serves as a broom without sitting on it. As Jack looks at it he can't help but remember his parents and his little sister Mary and how they were cruelly taken from him. Jack was born in a wizarding family in Norway and grew up happy. But one day three years ago a mysterious dark wizard broke into their home and killed his family in front of Jack. The shock of what happened had Jack cry in rage as unexpectedly he blasted ice from his body. The wizard then smirked after the attack and said "I see I was correct about my method." He said which confused Jack. "You see I knew of your hidden gift and I felt the only way to bring it out was to take what you love most right in front of you." He cruelly said as he brushed the snow off himself. "Well my work is done and just so you know we'll meet again when the time is right" he then apparated after telling Jack of his promise and at which point Jack collapsed to his knees crying and hugging his family. The utter despair was consuming the eight year old as his hair turned from brown to white. After his country's aurors came upon the scene and learned what happened Jack was adopted by North who was a distant relative of his father's and moved to Britain. Jack went half a year without talking until opening up to North and told him what the wizard told him. Jack never used his newly discovered ice power in fear that he'll come back and North promised to keep it a secret while researching it. Jack used pranks and humor to mask the fear in his heart. Jack wasn't sure what Hogwarts would be in store for him but he had hoped to put his nightmares behind him and finally make friends.
At Little Whiting Surrey 4 Pivet Drive there was a ten soon to be eleven year old boy who was going through another horrendous day. The boy, Harry Potter, had just been locked in his cupboard which yes is his bedroom by his Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia after a strange incident at their local zoo in which his cousin Dudley fell through glass into the snake pen. Harry had spent his entire life being a slave to this family after his parents apparently died in a car crash. Because of their threats he had to do all the chores and had to do badly at school to make Dudley look better. Dudley and his friends also viciously bullied Harry with both words and with fists. Harry often wondered if life could get any worse as all he wanted was a family who loved him and if that was asking for too much then friends who would never leave him. Little did Harry know that not only was he a wizard and would soon be going to Hogwarts, he would also meet four kids his age who would later come to be known as Harry's irreplaceable lifelong friends and family.
