Draco was in the kitchen preparing dinner when he heard the door bang open and then slam shut. As he let out a sigh, he called out, "Everything okay, Mia?"
Hermione stormed into the kitchen and jumped up on the counter with a huff. "No, everything is not okay!" came her reply.
"What did the blundering duo do now? Or was it the same old bullshite?" Draco asked her with a concerned look on his face. He hated the way those two, supposedly, best friends of hers could upset her so much.
"The same as always. Why are you dating him, 'Mione? Why can't you date someone normal, 'Mione? Why must you behave like a harlot, Hermione?" Hermione answered, changing her voice to fit the one who made the comment. "Why can't they see how happy I am?" she added.
"Because you're not following the path they think you should. You're your own woman and they can't stand it. You no longer blindly follow their way of thinking or their suggestions or advice and it drives them mad knowing they can't control you." Draco said while he leaned in as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
Leaning in to rest her forehead on his and wrap her arms around his neck, Hermione sighed.
"Why does it have to be so bloody difficult? Why can't they just trust my judgement and welcome that I'm happy, truly happy, for once in my life? After everything I have been through the past several years, you'd think they'd be ecstatic that I found someone that makes me happy." Hermione said, not really sure why she allowed them all to get under her skin so much. Draco and she have had this conversation many times over the last two years, since they started dating.
"I don't know love. I wish I did then I could tell you how to handle them. Sorry." Draco said gently to her then hugged her to him tightly. He couldn't understand why she continued to do this to herself. Potter, Weasley and the Weasley matriarch had given Hermione grief over their relationship since day one.
Fortunately, not all of the Weasley family thought like them but it still made it hard on her when she would visit the Burrow. The wondrous three had made her visits there nightmarish with their constant questioning and pushing of their agenda for her life. It had started off with just a comment here and there until Mia had put her foot down.
Since that day a year ago, her time spent around those three was strained and she generally came home upset, ready to spit nails. He had questioned her in the beginning of why she tolerated their comments and she had told him more about their school days with the boys and how Molly had treated her as a daughter. She couldn't just walk away from that. She had said she needed to try to get them to see.
Draco hoped, for both their sakes, that she either succeeded soon or would finally walk away. He was ready to hex the three of them and he wouldn't feel the least bit bad about it. Hell, even the twins had offered to prank them, well, at least Potter and the Weasel, but she had told them no. Draco had whispered "not yet" when Mia's attention had been elsewhere which he got slight head nods from them in acknowledgement. All he had to was let them know and they would give the wonder duo hell for, well, there hadn't been a time limit set.
Draco couldn't believe he had her in his life. The final battle had been one year past when he had finally gotten the nerve to ask her out. What had floored him was that she had said yes with a beaming smile! He would be forever grateful she gave him a chance. He was happier than he could ever remember being. They were both healing and had recovered the weight each had lost during that horrible year. Their world was coming back together, better than it had been.
The Ministry had been flushed clean, mostly, of the old purebloods that had helped to cause the rift that started Riddle on his path. There had been a thorough looking through of the laws and some were changed, some added, while others were abolished all together. It was quite refreshing to hear of the changes happening. Some thought Minister Shacklebolt should have waited a bit before making so many changes but Draco felt it was done at the right time. Everything was being rebuilt and everyone was seeing their world without rose colored glasses on for the first time. There would not have been a better time to bring about such drastic changes.
After the dust had settled, Draco had realized that he had started having feelings for the wild haired incandescent young witch years ago. Amazing what a punch in the nose could do to a fellow. Of course, at that time, he hadn't even realized what he was feeling, too many things had begun that he hadn't been able to analyze it all. Fortunately though, he was given the opportunity to learn about himself while helping to rebuild all that the war had destroyed, including the cleanup of Malfoy Industries, which allowed him to see that he had feelings for Hermione and that those feelings had grown and deepened over the years.
He had watched her go from a bushy-haired bucktooth uppity know-it-all to a courageous, underfed warrior to a beautiful vivacious witch. When he had taken the time to look over the years he had known her, he had cringed at his behavior towards her. They both knew he had no choice at the time but it hadn't made it any easier for Draco to accept his own actions towards her. He had chosen the coward's way growing up which was why it took him a bit of time to gather the courage to ask Mia out, he was sorted into Slytherin and not Gryffindor for a reason.
However, that one date turned into another and another until a year ago when he had asked her to move in with him. He had been as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof but when she had wrapped her arms around him and snogged him with such passion, he knew he had made the right decision. She had moved in the next day and they had no regrets. He wouldn't say she would be the next Lady Malfoy, yet, but they were well on their way there.
Hermione couldn't believe her friends or adopted family. It infuriated her so much that they were acting this way. Well, Harry wasn't so much in agreement with what was being said, due to being so far up Ginny's arse, but he wasn't defending her either. He was more concerned with getting laid than he was of her and her situation. She should have known he'd be this way though; all through school he always took Ron's side and rarely ever hers.
It was irritating enough listening to Ron go on and on about her choice of boyfriend but she had learned long ago how to tune him out. It was when he made a comment around Molly that things started to ramp up. It was a no-win situation where that woman was concerned. She was given hell when Ron and her broke up then she got an earful about being single, now, now it was about dating Draco Malfoy. Gods, when would it all stop?! She was tired of the comments, the looks and the scornful "sighs".
Fortunately, it was only Molly and Ron who harangued her. The twins thought it was great that Draco had turned his life around and made her so happy. They had also offered to prank Harry and Ron for her; all she had to do was say the word. She had turned them down but she was starting to seriously consider it. Bill had cautioned her when she first went out with Draco but said he trusted her to take care of herself, which meant a lot to her. Charlie, the one she had only met a few times, even told her that if he stepped out of line in any way she was welcome to send Malfoy to Romania. She had smiled at that and given Charlie a hug then told him she appreciated the offer and would keep it in mind.
Hermione felt she was finally at the end of her rope with Ron and his mother. She had tried to talk to them, reach them in some way, and explain that Draco had changed but they would hear none of it. Ron never cared for Draco and definitely would never hear anything positive about him and Molly…well, if Hermione wasn't going to marry Ron then surely one of her other sons would be a much better fit than Draco Malfoy. Sheesh!
However, Molly's last folly was to bring Hermione's parents into the accusation laden conversation. She had asked Hermione what her parents would think, her dating someone so reprehensible? Hermione had blown her top and told the matriarch that her parents would have trusted her judgement. They would have been wary around Draco at first but would have given him a chance if she had told them he had changed. Then she had stormed out of the Burrow to the apparition point and had come home.
Home. Home was wherever Draco was now. He was her rock, her laughter, her warmth, her passion, her world. She had been surprised when he had approached her at the end of the rebuilding and had asked her to dinner. She had gladly said yes and had been a nervous wreck the few days before the date. Then he had taken her to a muggle restaurant and had kept the conversation flowing between them. It had been so refreshing to not have to dumb herself down or to carefully choose her words before speaking or having to explain whichever word they hadn't understood.
He was able to keep up with her and it was exhilarating! If, by chance, he hadn't known what she was talking about or a reference she had made, he had actually asked her to explain or clarify! Oh, what a wonderful night it had been! So when he had asked her out for a second date she had said yes before he had even finished asking. Hermione couldn't help but mentally chuckle at remembering that night.
He had seemed so surprised, yet again, by her quick agreement to a date that she had leaned in and snogged him before he could her. The chemistry between them had been electrifying; something she thought was only in the romance novels. But, it seemed, real life could be just as heated. It had taken them two weeks of dating before either finally acted on the sizzling chemistry between them. That had been one hell of a night! Who knew sex could be so mind blowing?
It wasn't as if she was a virgin, she hadn't been a virgin since the summer between fifth and sixth years. She had experimented with a local muggle boy and had been glad she had. He had also been a virgin and they had learned a lot about their bodies and themselves that summer. There was chemistry between them, enough to make their interactions enjoyable, but nothing like what Draco and she had.
Ron and her had never made it that far. Funny how fighting for your life and living in constant fear could put a damper on any libido. When they had kissed during the final battle, she had been surprised to feel absolutely nothing towards Ron. There was no chemistry at all. It had been a bit of a letdown but, as they say, that's life. That was when they both knew they would be nothing more than friends and were okay with it.
Well, until she started dating Draco. He had changed so much from their school days. He was no longer the bully unless it had to do with business associates. Unlike his father, Draco wouldn't let anyone sway his decision to stay light, to keep Malfoy Industries legal in all dealings. She had seen him once dealing with an old contract and he had been magnificent. She had stared at him in awe. The old "ally" had been chewed up and spit out with nothing more than a handful of words and a hard look. It was funny to watch the old man sputter his way out of the room.
That night, she had fucked Draco senseless. There was no other way to call what they had done that night. By this time, they had made love plenty as well as had lots of sex but that night…yeah, she fucked his brains out. She had surprised him by taking control and dominating him. Later, he had admitted that he never thought he would like being dominated but once in a while…
He had quite enjoyed himself and she had been dominate once or twice since then but generally he was the one in control and that was something she had been surprised to learn about herself. She had no problems submitting to him. She wasn't a true submissive, not by any means, but giving up most of the control in the bedroom was fine with her. It was nice to not have to decide what to do next all the time and Draco was certainly confident enough to allow her that respite.
Hermione was first to pull out of her mind and tilted her head just enough to kiss Draco's forehead which brought him back to the moment. Draco smiled and kissed the tip of her nose then asked, "Want to help me with dinner?"
"Of course." Hermione replied as she hopped down and smiled warmly at him.
As the two of them worked in companionable silence, Draco made sure to keep very little distance between them. He knew she would need his nearness to calm her mind, she always had. He took pride that he was the one to comfort her now. He was the one she cried on when things got too much. He was the one to bring a smile back to her face when the tears had dried. He also was the one to hold her at night when the nightmares would return to torment her, just as she did for him.
When the food was done, they sat down to a simple dinner of chicken and rice with a small salad and chatted about mundane things. Draco had learned early on that Sunday dinner was a light affair after Hermione had had such a heavy lunch at the Burrow with all the drama of late, a light supper was just what was needed, with good conversation, of course.
After eating and cleaning up, Draco and Hermione adjourned to the living room to drink some tea and enjoy a bit of quiet time. Usually, they'd snuggle up together and read but tonight, they just snuggled. Hermione needed to feel Draco's quiet strength to help replenish her own.
When she twisted her hips to get even closer to him, she decided a little music would be nice. The song that started playing quietly stopped Hermione in her tracks; it was Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters'. It described her and Draco more and more the longer they were together.
As she listened to the first chords of the music she had a soft smile appear on her face. When she turned to face Draco, he quirked an eyebrow at her, then she grabbed the remote and restarted the song as she straddled his lap; looking directly into his eyes, she started to sing.
So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trust in who we are
And nothing else matters
Hermione cupped his face and caressed his cheeks with her thumbs, watching as his eyes registered she was singing this to him. She was pleased to see his attention zero in on her, even more than what it had been.
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters
There was so much truth in this song it almost brought Hermione to tears. She had never opened herself to anyone like she had with Draco. He understood her; she could see the meaning of the words sink in as his eyes became glassy.
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Trust…now that was a word she never thought she would use in the same thought with Draco but it had happened. She trusted him with her life, her secrets, her passion and her heart. She knew he would never take advantage of what she offered him. She knew he would never, intentionally, give away her secrets. He would never betray her or judge her.
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know
She didn't know why Ron and Molly were behaving the way they were. She had never really followed anyone else's path. She had always held true to what she had wanted to do. So why they thought she would bend to their will when it made her so unhappy was beyond her. She had to agree with Draco's earlier statement. She was her own woman and that was what was driving those two crazy. She knew who she was and what she wanted from her life.
So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trust in who we are
And nothing else matters
As she watched the emotions in his eyes reflect hers, she knew she had made the right decision two years ago to give this wonderful man a chance. Not only had he become her "knight in shining armor" when her nightmares would hit or life would weigh her down, he had also become someone she didn't want to be away from any longer than necessary.
As she continued to sing to him, Draco tightened his hold on her. He couldn't believe this incredible witch was singing such a song to him. He knew she meant every word, he could see it in her eyes, feel it in her touch. He wasn't sure he could properly convey to her just what she was doing to his heart at the moment but, given the opportunity, he would do his damnedest to.
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know
As the song lapsed into music, Hermione leaned forward and kissed Draco, gently, sweetly. She tried to pour every ounce of love she had for him into this single kiss. When he pulled her towards him she broke the kiss and smiled at him. Then wrapped her arms around his neck and continued singing.
I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters
Draco couldn't believe just how much feeling Hermione was putting into this song. She had never sung to him before and he would cherish this moment until the day he died. He had no clue if she knew just how much this was meaning to him. He was speechless. She had a nice voice, this he knew, but to have her sing such a profound song to him blew him away, all he could do was hold on tighter to her and enjoy the moment and allow the emotions to flow over him.
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
When Hermione made her voice stronger to match the singer's it took Draco by surprise. She almost smirked when his eyes widened a bit. She wanted him to understand that she meant every single word she was singing, that she wasn't just singing a song. No, she was singing from her heart and soul.
Draco felt a tear slide down his cheek at the strength of conviction she was putting behind the words. He knew he was one lucky bastard. He also knew, one day soon, he would propose to her. He would keep this totally awesome woman in his life forever, if she would have him.
Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know, yeah
As Hermione sang these words, she knew them to be pure truth. She had never cared for what anyone else said or did. She definitely never cared for any games many liked to play. She never cared for what any of them "knew" because it was generally wrong, especially if it had to do with her. Draco had been the first person to ever truly see past the persona she showed the public. He was the first to truly capture her heart and soul. She knew he was her forever, if he would have her. She would gladly follow him to the deepest depths of hell and back if it was needed and she was pretty certain he would do the same for her and that was the difference about him compared to any of the others.
She knew Harry, Ron and her had been through the seven planes of hell during their school years and the final battle and they each would have laid their lives down for the others. But now, now that there was no threat of a dark lord, no DeathEaters, no corrupt Ministry; they had drifted far apart. Oh, they would always have a very special place in her heart but not like it had once been. Not like when they were in school. No, that now belonged to Draco. He had stepped in when they had stepped out. It was expected to some degree, she knew, the drifting but she hadn't expected them to drift so far apart.
So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trust in who we are
No nothing else matters
When Hermione had sung the last words of the song, Draco leaned forward and kissed her hard. He wanted her to feel the depth of his feelings for her through the kiss alone. When she responded with her own fervor, he broke the kiss long enough to send their clothes away. The skin to skin contact made the young lovers moan.
When Draco slid his hand up her sides to cup her breasts, Hermione started rocking on his erection. She still couldn't believe how hard she could make him. She wondered if it would always be this way. Would their chemistry always be this strong? She hoped so with everything in her. When Draco started to take control, Hermione gently pushed on his shoulders, her signal to him that she wanted control, he relaxed back into the couch giving her what she wanted.
After feeling him relax, Hermione rose up onto her knees and slowly slid down his shaft. When she had bottomed out, she slowly started rocking her hips. She kept the pace tortuously slow, enjoying the feel of him stretching and filling her completely. She loved the way his eyes had darken and become like molten steel when he let his passion take over. She rolled her hips a few times before slowly picking up the pace.
She had wanted to make this last, and she had for a time, but her desire was rising to a fevered pitch. Hermione then started alternating between sliding all the way up 'til just the head of his cock was inside her to rocking hard against him, making them both sound out their pleasure. Then she moved Draco's hands to her hips to help her with the downward thrust as her hands came up to cup her breasts.
After a bit, their pace started to become frantic. When she felt Draco's thumb caress her clit, Hermione couldn't stop the moan that came out. She knew she was close so she sped up her pace while Draco thrust up to match her. Before she knew it, her walls were clamping down on him with enough force to cause him to tip over with her.
As they sat their catching their breaths, she heard a quiet, "I love you Mia" which caused her to shiver.
"I love you too Draco, now and forever." Was her equally quiet reply, feeling him shudder in response.
AN: I just wanted to say that I took Hermione singing this to Draco from my own history. I sung this to my husband after dating him for a few months. :) I already knew he was the one for me and this song fit us perfectly.
