Darkest Night, Chapter 1: Gone

"Oh I've got my axe and I've got my mace
And I got my wife with the ugly face
I'm a Viking through and through!"

"Gobber"

"I'm a Viking through and throuuugh!"

"GOBBER" Yelled a fiery feminine voice.

"Oh, didn't see ya there lass, need yer axe sharpened again?" Gobber said, noticing the young shield maiden clutching the handle of her axe.

"Gobber, have you seen Hiccup?" She questioned.

"Ahm guessin he's probably still out in the forest, the nerves of getting to kill that nightmare must be getting to 'im" He laughed. "I hope you're not planning to use that on Hiccup?" He asked, waving his hammer her axe.

"Ofcourse not, thanks gobber!" Astrid smiled at him, but her voice showed a different emotion. She span around and stormed off, still with her axe in hand.

"HICCUP!" Astrid yelled as she passed her usual tree murdering spot. "Where did that muttonhead run off to last time.." she mumbled to herself.

Nearing the area where he disappeared the day before she started to hear something eerily similar to the sound of wings..
"HICCUP!" she yelled while running towards the sound, "HICCUP!" she yelled again, but there came nothing, nothing but the sound of wings fading into the distance.

Quickly making her way through the forest, she ran faster then she should've been able to, almost running herself off the edge of.. something..

"Son of a half troll! I ALMOST HAD IT!" Astrid yelled out when she managed to stop herself from falling off, "What the hel is this place anyways?!" she said as she looked around, her eyes widened when she saw it.

"Dear thor.." She mumbled.

"GOBBER!" a panicked yell from shook him from his work, "GOBBER!" it sounded like Astrid, 'Must be something serious to get that young shield maiden in a panic.' he thought to himself. Quickly waddling out of his shop he spotted her running fast towards him, skidding to a stop.

"GOBBER.. HICCUP.. FOREST… DRAGON.." She tried to yell.

"Calm down lass, catch yer breath first" The blacksmith told her.

"Gobber.. You need to come with me.. Now.." She said, still out of breath but already beginning to make her way back to the forest.

"Ah have to get me hook on first-" he tries to speak but is interrupted.

"No time for that Gobber! Hiccup could be in danger!" She urges.

"Alright alright what did you see" He asked while trying to keep up "and slow it down, ah've only got one good leg!"

"I was looking for Hiccup, and I heard a dragon, I tried to follow the sounds and stumbled across some kind of cove. I really think you should see the rest for yourself." She explained while keeping a steady pace.

Gobber gulped, that did sound worrying. He liked that young lad like he was his own son.

"It's not too far, just off Ravenpoint!" Astrid yelled while running ahead, disappearing behind some rocks.

Gobber tried his best to follow through the narrow passageway, almost stumbling with his peg over a rock. Finally out of the tunnel he took in the sight.
"Odin's ghost, what happened 'ere!" He almost shrieked. The beauty of this little cove disrupted by dark spots of red covering grass and rocks, red spots that could only be one thing.

"I found it like this, turned right around to get some backup.." She told the blacksmith.

Gobber didn't respond, his eyes fixed on one position, one object. Hiccup's knife, painted with red liquid, lying on the grass distanced from the other carnage.
He sank to his knees, picked it up and held it close.

"Gobber?" Astrid had turned around when the blacksmith remained quiet, she could see him holding something.
"Gobber, what did you find?" She tried again.

She could hear was him softly whispering, "Hiccup…"
Astrid didn't know what to say when he revealed the small knife that he'd been clutching to his chest, his clothing now stained red.

The truth came too fast, hitting her like an out of control Gronkle.
"Gobber are you sure that's his?" She asked cautiously.

"Course i'm sure! I made it myself when he turned 11!" The usually calm blacksmith snapped at her.

Astrid winced, she'd never seen Gobber like this.

"He's gone.." Gobber mumbles, trying to contain his sniffling "Hiccup s'gone.."

Hello there dear readers. Short first chapter, i know, but i had an idea for my first story and i just had to get it out as quickly as possible.
I also wanted to test the water a bit, so please read&review because i'd love the feedback!

I usually see people putting down a disclaimer saying they don't own httyd etc, but i really wanted a cold open for this story so i'll put the disclaimer at the end here. I don't own httyd nor the characters in it blah blah blah, this is the only time i'm going to put this disclaimer in.
