A/N: After months and months of planning, ladies and gentlemen I present you my dear baby – Taipan! This fanfic is going to be written in BTTS (Back to the Sixties, farm, get wealthy and raise the cubs) novel's style. You will find a lot of similarities between the novel and this story at first, but I promise that soon Taipan will set off on its own road. Enough of my rambling!

~Enjoy~

"Nee-san?"

"Nee-san?!"

"Nee-san!"

"Nee-san!"

A soft milky voice gradually grows louder and louder with each passing minute. It's a child's voice, yet it contains emotions that no child should feel. It sounds lost and confused, pained but fearful. It's pitiful enough to tug at anyone's heartstrings.

But then all of a sudden it disappeared as if there was no sound, to begin with. The world was wrapped by darkness, drowned in silence.

In the small apartment, Li Jing opened her eyes and was dazed for a while. But after some time, she sighed loudly.

Her hand reached under her pillow and pulled out her phone. It was only 5:40 a.m. and the date was 6th July. The sky was already quite clear outside.

Her throat felt dry as if she had just swallowed a mouthful of sand. 'Some water would be good.' She thought as she put down her phone and sat up. And suddenly out of nowhere, a glass of iced water appeared in her hand!

Li Jing observed the glass. The ice cube was still intact; it hadn't melted even in the tiniest bit. The water was still cold, just like how she left it last night.

After taking in the phenomenal scene within her eyes, Li Jing slowly drank the water, the cold water soothing against her dry throat. Then she didn't hesitate anymore as she got up from the bed and went to wash up.

She sighed again as she looked into the mirror, there were dark circles under her eyes. She felt quite tired; after all, she had been waking up much earlier than usual for the past five days. But even through her tiredness, she didn't forget to wash up cleanly and put some moisturizer on her face.

After washing up she changed into a fresh set of clothes and went to the kitchen to get some early snacks. She didn't have much of an appetite, to begin with, hence she settled down with only a glass of orange juice and an apple.

Munching on the juicy apple, Li Jing waved her left hand in front of her and a floating white cube appeared. It has about 15 cubic meters of space, as she had measured earlier.

This is something straight out of a fantasy novel scene. And yet she can't share it with anyone. What's the use? No one would believe her anyway.

Li Jing has been dreaming the same dream for six days in a row. In the dream, she hears the pitiful voice of a child who keeps calling her 'Nee-san'. And then she sees some vague images flash by in front of her eyes, most of them of a town/village and its people. Li Jing knows that 'Nee-san' means elder sister in Japanese. She has picked up some Japanese words while working alongside her Japanese co-worker.

As for the images, the only thing she seems to recognize a bit is a mountain with two carved faces on it. However, the image is quite vague and the mountain gives her strange déjà vu. Whenever she sees that image she feels like it's missing something, as to what and why she feels that way is a mystery.

The repeated dream is weird, but what's even weirder is the floating cube in front of her. It appeared on the fifth day she woke up from the dream. Although at first she hadn't thought anything of it and had blamed her overworked brain for imagining stuff, but after today's incident with the iced water, Li Jing has no more doubt that what she's seeing is real.

She is now the owner of a floating storage cube that only she can see and use. Anything she puts in it is stored exactly the way she wants. Like last night she had experimentally put a glass of water with an ice cube in. And today she woke up with the ice cube intact. She even drank the cold water! This all can't be a hallucination, right? Even the dream felt too real to the point of being disturbing, as she would constantly feel as if the child was speaking right beside her ears.

After Li Jing finished her fruity snack she stayed seated in her place, deeply contemplating her plans. Having the same hyper-realistic dream for six days in a row and the sudden appearance of a magical storage cube...

Li Jing has been losing her remaining brain cells while searching for an answer for these mysterious incidents for almost a week. Needless to say, she was scared witless at first. But then she adapted. She was quite surprised by her adapting skills, but then she felt that it might've been influenced by all those novels she read in her pastime. It's as if her mind is automatically adapting to all this craziness and is already prepared for something even crazier to happen very soon.

There's this certain possibility that has been poking around in her mind since day five, is that these two incidents might be premonitions for her transmigration.

Li Jing is sure that she hasn't gone insane. But if those piles of transmigration novels are true even in the tiniest bit, then there's a huge possibility that soon she's going to be transmigrated. As to why she has absolutely no idea.

According to her surroundings in the dream, the world she's been seeing is quite a mixture of ancient and modern. They have modern plumbing settings; they have some 2-3 stories buildings that resemble any modern building quite a lot. But aside from that, everything else is quite... ancient. Everyone wears traditional Japanese clothes, open-toed sandals. No modern vehicles, no traffic, no Internet towers, no industrial facilities, no dust or black smoke in the air, etc. They have huge lush green forests and almost every house or building is made out of wood. What more, people – even children – also wield different kinds of weapons with them!

Is it ancient Japan? Or is it a mixture of ancient and modern worlds? Li Jing feels confused. The world is quite dangerous, she comprehends. If almost everyone even including children wield weapons with them then the world is dangerous.

And most importantly, it seems as if the world is currently going through a great disaster, a war most likely. Li Jing has no idea as to how severe things are, but all she could collect from the dreams is that there's quite a lot of scarcity of food, medicines, weapons, etc. Almost like a post-apocalyptic world. People have this aura of depression and fear emitting from them; it all screams that their lives aren't going well.

If she gets transmigrated and has to take care of a child in a warring world that has a scarcity of basic survival items, then surviving is going to be a great challenge. Hence Li Jing has to be prepared for everything. Most likely she has to expect the worst to happen. She refuses to be caught unprepared in the middle of a savage ancient world!

Li Jing abruptly stood up from the chair. Real or not but she can't just ignore these strange happenings anymore. This nagging feeling in her mind that has been repeatedly telling her to take these matters seriously won't let her live in peace. She has to take some action, ignoring such strong gut feelings might not turn out well for her.

Making up her mind she quickly took out a pen and a notepad and started listing down things that she might need in the future.

First of all, she needs the most basic yet necessary supplies, starting with food. She listed down rice, oil, salt, soy, and vinegar. She drew a star near rice and oil, marking them as a top priority. And of course meat - doesn't matter of what kind; she has to get a lot of them anyway. Eggs are also on the top priority list; they hold a lot of nutrition and won't take a lot of space in her storage cube. Li Jing also added brown sugar and rock sugar to the list. White sugar isn't necessary; she could make it work with these.

As for vegetables and firewood, there are enough forests there to get firewood from. She could also grow a small garden of veggies in the backyard of the dream house. If not then in a warring world vegetables will most likely be much cheaper than meat.

Then she needs medicines, for fevers, coughs, colds, diarrhea, etc diseases, and emergencies. Aside from these basic medicines she also has to get a fully packed first-aid kit. And probably get some balms/oils for aches in different parts of the body? She might need it too; Li Jing added balms/oil to her list.

Food and medicines are listed down. Next up are quilts. She hesitates before finally writing down 'quilts' on the notepad. She doesn't know if it gets really cold there, but since the entire place is surrounded by forests and with absolutely no modern industries, winter has got to be very cold there.

She's going to need warm quilts and mattresses. And all of them are going to have to be of black or navy blue colors, that way dirt and spots won't be noticeable to bare eyes and she won't have to wash them frequently. Just drying them under sunlight would be enough.

Slowly exhaling Li Jing rested her hand a bit, her mind wandering around for more supplies that should be added to her list. After a few minutes, she got back to writing.

Next up are toiletries such as hand sanitizers, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoos, detergents, etc. She might get some of the other toiletries in that world, but she isn't sure about it. After all, it's quite ancient and is in a warring period now, will they have time to make these toiletries? She doubts they even have detergents or sanitizers. Ah! And also sanitary napkins! Li Jing jots it down. Now that's an absolute necessity for a woman. Anyways a medium-sized box full of these would be enough. She can't waste a lot of space.

With the list partially complete, Li Jing double-checks to see if she left out anything. Finally, she hums in satisfaction. This will be enough to help her and the kid survives in the 'dream' world for a few months at most. It isn't a permanent solution, but at least she won't die out of starvation or freeze to death within just a few days of transmigrating. It's something – better than having nothing at all!

With food, medicines, and toiletries listed down, all she needs next are some of her private belongings. She would like to take some of her things with her, not that these are absolute necessities. But they are necessary for her daily life.

A tired sigh escapes her mouth as she leans back on the chair, her hands limply hanging from both sides. She hates losing sleep, but thanks to the current supernatural craziness in her life; she has been losing her precious sleep for almost a week.

'So much for a peaceful life.' She snorts.

Li Jing's entire life has been quite eventless. Growing up as an orphan girl in a backwaters village's orphanage, she learned to adjust quickly and persist to live for a better chance at life. She never knew her parents, as they abandoned her at the doorsteps of the orphanage. Back then when she was still a little girl, she always had this little voice questioning in her head that why? Why was she so unwanted by them? But then she grew up and the little voice in her head got buried under the struggles of life.

She had dreams, big dreams for her but quite simple ones from a third person's perspective. Get out of that old little backwaters village, get to the city, graduate from college, get a job, a house, and earn lots of money every year so that she would live a life where she will have to neither starve nor sleep in a small room full of more kids than it can hold.

Li Jing isn't usually a very proud person, but she's proud of her accomplishments. She did it all. She lives in Beijing now, she got a job within months after graduating from college and now she earns enough to put good food on her table, affords pretty clothes, and also keeps a roof above her head.

She's a content woman. What more does she need for a better life? The amount she earns isn't a lot, but for a single woman with a habit of saving money while living in a city like Beijing, what she earns and saves is enough for her to live yet a lavish life.

With all her dreams fulfilled, she had originally planned to live a peaceful life onwards. Maybe even settle down with her 'the one' sometime during her late twenties? She wasn't sure about it though, all her life she was more focused on improving her lifestyle and achieving dreams rather than finding love. But well everything has a start, who knows maybe she would've even found love if she tried?

But now that plan has to change. With the supernatural craziness turning her peaceful life upside down, she now has bigger things to focus on rather than that. And the new plan starts with shopping.

With a determined expression, Li Jing stood up from the chair and left for her bedroom with the notepad in hand. She has a lot of shopping to do – for the survival of course. She just hopes that her credit card will also understand the gravity of the situation.

Turned out that she could probably afford it all if she shopped carefully. For her job as a general manager, the amount of money she managed to save is naturally small. Hopefully, with the 3000 yuan of loose money on her and the 50,000 yuan in her card, she could make it work.

After counting her savings Li Jing straight out rented a minibus online. For all the shopping she needs to do today, a minibus will naturally be handy. Only for the eyes of outsiders, of course, they don't know that she now has an invisible storage cube on her palm!

The owner of the minibus immediately drove it to her apartment complex's front gate; it only took about 10 minutes as Li Jing had urged him to hurry, saying that it was an emergency. Since she already paid the deposit online, there was no need to pay anymore. After trying it out for a few minutes she sent off the owner of the minibus, grabbed her bag, and hit the road. Thankfully her skills in driving haven't gotten rusty as the driving went on smoothly.

Now it's time for the shopping battle to begin.

Author's Rambling: Phew... Well, that went better than I expected. As a newbie writer's clumsy attempt in writing something good, please pardon if I made any mistakes in this chappie. English isn't my first language, but I'll try my best to make fewer grammatical errors.

However, updates aren't going to be regular. Know that I only post when I finish writing a chapter. This is going to be a loooong slow-paced story, that if I can make it till there lol. The story becomes a slice of life at first but will turn into a massive AU in later chapters. All criticisms and reviews will be accepted; I can always try to do better. ^w^

That's all for today. Until next time!
