"Hey Kiyo," a blue hair girl called for the only person in the room beside her. She was searching for her favourite book.
"Hmm," a brown hair boy answer in an uninterested voice as he moves his knight on the chessboard. He was sitting alone at a corner table of the room. The girl comes to the boy's table, already found the book that she looking for and sits across his table.
They currently in a huge library. One thing that is very peculiar about this library that everything is coloured white, from walls to shelves and even book covers just like the white clothes they wearing.
"When we get out of here, let's go to normal school and make lots of friends," said the girl with a cheerful smile.
"Why you want to go outside so much," the boy whose name is Kiyo asked in an apathetic voice without looking at her. The girl did not expect that type of question from Kiyo. Whenever she asked him about something he always replies in a one-word and he never asked about anything she does or want to do.
"Because I want to know how society works and how emotions can change people. I want to feel all kind of emotions that is out there." answered the girl in a very polite voice.
"Emotions?" asked Kiyo with a small hint of interest as he finally looked at the girl. The girl was smiling at him. She didn't miss the small hint of interest in Kiyo's voice.
"Yes, emotions a strong feeling deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. These emotions can bring the worst or best of a person. People sometimes make illogical decision because of these emotions. They can make you less efficient and show you're most venerable side." she explains.
"That's why emotions are unnecessary. That's the first thing they teach us here," said Kiyo in a flat tone. At Kiyo remark, the girl's smile turns into a frown.
"You right, to become the perfect human that this facility wants us to be, they told us that human emotion of any kind will hold us back and we never able to reach our full potential." she stops at the midway and again smiles at Kiyo before she continued.
"But I don't think that true. According to this book, basic emotions plays a major role in human evolution. This means that the philosophy of this institution is wrong. Right, Kiyo?" she pointed at the book that she holding and looked at Kiyo pretty enthusiastically. While Kiyo looked at her with his usual apathetic expression.
"That theory is debatable and besides this topic is not even in our curriculum. If someone finds you reading that book and wasting your time, you would be in big trouble, Suzuki. You should focus on your studies if you don't want to be thrown out" said Kiyo in a matter of fact tone. This facility is very strict rules regarding how children spend their time. Even in their free time, they supposed to study to improve themselves. The girl whose name is Suzuki smirks at Kiyo.
"Are you perhaps worried about me?" said Suzuki with a smug face.
"No, I'm just stating the facts." replayed Kiyo without changing his expression.
"But you right about that. If I didn't show results I will be abandoned without a doubt. Even then I didn't want to limit my knowledge to this facility. I want to experience the outside world." said Suzuki.
Before Kiyo could say anything a voice echo in the library through a speaker.
"Attention all subjects return to your classroom at once your 20 minutes break is over"
With that Kiyo return his chessboard to its place and began to walk out the door. He stopped at the door. This makes Suzuki a bit confused.
"You not coming?" asked Kiyo without turning back. Suzuki is again taken aback by Kiyo. He never waits for anyone before. But this her happy because it means that Kiyo is slowly changing. She forcing him to interact with her to talk to her. This is the best method for her to feel emotions and she could also help Kiyo to understand emotion. This also proves to her that to feel emotion one needs the company of another living being. In a way, Kiyo is her test subject to try all kind of emotion that learn from that book.
"You coming or not," Kiyo asked again bringing Suzuki back to reality.
"Huh no, I'm coming," said Suzuki as she quickly places the book on its shelves and joins Kiyo at the door.
"Shall we go," said Suzuki in her usual cheerful voice. Kiyo nodded at her and with that, both walked toward their classrooms in complete silence.
