Rex gave her a few minutes, but he knew they would need to get going sooner or later; it just wasn't safe to stay around for long. Where they would go, he had no idea. What they would do, he had no idea. All he knew was that they needed to be gone and somehow disappear.
Ahsoka felt Rex place his hand on her shoulder and she took a deep breath. She turned to face him, feeling as though she should say something, but there was nothing to say. Instead, she allowed herself to be pulled into the embrace the soldier offered. She let out a shaky breath; it had been a long day and only now did she allow tears to fall. Silently they fell, falling onto Rex's armor, leaving white trails amongst the dirt.
Ahsoka sighed, hoping to calm herself, but more tears fell. She pulled away and looked up into Rex's eyes. Though there was no trace of tears, she could see the same grief she felt. She opened her mouth to speak, but a gloved finger came up to block any words. She closed her mouth and dropped her gaze.
Rex pulled the girl in for another hug, tighter than the first, hoping she understood what it meant. She didn't need to speak, because he understood. He just wanted her to know that he was going to be there to protect her. He also knew that if she tried to talk, he was afraid any tears might escape, and she needed him right now.
Ahsoka could feel the strength in how hard Rex was holding her, and she found comfort in it. She decided to return the embrace, knowing that just as much as she needed him, he needed her.
The two stood holding onto each other for quite sometime, but neither one minded. They needed each other for support, and both were willing to give that. But they knew that staying there too long would be dangerous, and chances were that they had already over stayed their visit.
Rex pulled away, and Ahsoka reluctantly let go as well. If only she could stay in his embrace and forget about everything...
"We should get going." Rex's voice was hoarse from little use and the work they had done the past hours.
Ahsoka nodded, wiping away the tears from her face. "Where," her voice came about in a hoarse whisper. She cleared her throat and tried again. "Where are we going to go?"
Rex sighed and looked away from the blue eyes to the horizon. "I don't know. But we need to get away from here."
Ahsoka took a shaky deep breath, hoping all the tears had ended for now. "So, do you want to leave the planet tonight, or..."
"I don't know where we'd go if we left the planet." Rex dropped his hands from Ahsoka's shoulders and turned to go back to the ship. "Maybe we could just fly to the other side of the planet, worry about leaving tomorrow."
"Yeah," he heard Ahsoka say from behind him. "That might be the best thing to do."
When they got to the ship the two stood in silence for a few minutes, as if trying to force themselves to do something neither wanted to do. Ahsoka looked up at Rex. "Do you think anybody will come looking for us?"
Rex sighed. "I...I have no idea, kid." Whether she meant enemies or friends, he didn't know. Perhaps she didn't know either. But he really didn't know if it mattered either way. As far as they were concerned, they were the only survivors, and any enemies would probably assume they were dead. But that all remained to be seen.
