Seref Meselesi - Matter of Respect - Emir and Kubra

The 26 episodes of Seref Meselesi - Matter of Respect started with the ending as a ploy to make the viewers see how it was all contrived. The good vs evil, love vs betrayal, ambition vs simplicity and friendship vs family all come into play as two brothers Yigit and Emir Kilic have their lives turned in opposite directions when they move to Balat from their little farming community in Ayvalik , Turkey.

The two brothers personalities are as different as night and day with Yigit being a street smart impetuous guy that uses his handsome looks to get the local girls to do whatever he wants. Emir is the opposite of his brother in that he is shy and introverted yet much more handsome, but treats women with respect and honor and would never use them. While Yigit who had no use for education followed a path of easy money and crime to rise in the ranks of the underworld. Emir got his law degree and became a prosecutor with a vow to put all criminals behind bars.

With the passing away of their grandfather Zeliha convinces her husband Hasan to move to Balat a suburb of Istanbul so that they could live the life she has always dreamed of. The new life was short lived in that after they invested all their inherited money in a jewelry store they were immediately robbed and lost everything since they had no insurance. The man that sold them the store was local mafia figure who preyed on unsuspecting clients. With the knowledge that he had been swindled and lost everything, Hasan committed suicide rather than face the embarrassment of what happened to him.

Zeliha also was affected in that it was her decision that led the family to this predicament and she too could no longer handle the pain of her husbands suicide begins to loose her mental capacity and eventually passes away.

After these tragedies, Yigit and Emir seek revenge for what has happened to them but they choose different paths to achieve the same results. The neighborhood that they moved into had three girl childhood friends that caught the eye of the two brothers. Derya, the ever talkative yet loyal to bone, Sibel the gorgeous model type that relied on her looks to make her way in life and Kubra the plan yet attractive shy girl because of her leg disability fell for Yigit at first sight and became a pawn in his revenge against her father Sadullah who was the swindler. Meanwhile Emir catches the eye of Sibel and they have a brief fling but not long lasting since Emir didn't have the riches to give Sibel and her mother the life that they sought.

Yigit too becomes infatuated with Sibel, but she refuses him while she is romancing Emir. Yigit however then takes an interest in Kubra who finds herself in love with Yigit easily succumbs to Yigit's wishes and finds herself pregnant and then rejected by Yigit because she is the daughter of Sadullah. Sadullah's rage throws Kubra out of his house with no place to go.

Emir's short lived romance with Sibel ends and being the man that he is takes Kubra to his house hoping that Yigit would live up to his responsibility as the father of the child. When Yigit refuses and continues to scorn Kubra for getting pregnant and not getting an abortion, Emir put's his name as the father of the baby on the official record and then offers to marry Kubra so she no longer has to face scorn and ridicule of being an unmarried girl with a baby.

Kubra agrees to the marriage only if it is marriage on paper and that they don't live as man and wife. Kubra still has hope that Yigit will claim her and the baby and they can be the family that she dreamed of. Yigit being Yigit continues to play with Kubra's feelings but never follows through on any of his promises. He promises to take Kubra and the baby away and then decides to marry Sibel instead which further divides and cracks the friendship of the two.

Kubra commits to staying with Emir even though Emir had divorce papers drawn up making it easy for her to go with Yigit. Kubra's decision to stay and become a real wife to Emir thrills him since he has been completely in love with Kubra and the baby and wants them to be his family forever. When Yigit sees Emir and Kubra in a loving embrace and Kubra telling him that she loves Emir very much, Yigit realizes that he can no longer play with Kubra's emotions at his brother's expense.

Yigit's undoing of the man that he has become comes to the forefront with his confession to Sibel when he receives the news that Sibel is pregnant and that he can have the family he has always wanted. Yigit tells Sibel that he asked Kubra to marry him even though he knew that Kubra had rejected him and wanted to stay with Emir. When Sibel is kidnaped by Seyhan Demir and Sibel throws herself in front of Yigit as Seyhan shoots him, he understands the depths of Sibel's love for him and how he once again used her as he used Kubra.

Seyhan Demir as an insurance policy to his capture also kidnaps Kubra in order to get the gun that killed Sibel and eliminate the evidence that can put him behind bars. Yigit and Emir along with Selim and Ender execute a recuse of Kubra, however Seyhan once again gets a trump card when Emir is forced to shoot Seyhan and kills one of his guards allowing Seyhan to walk away once again, since Turkish law has gun crimes and death as serious offenses that are mandatory jail time. Yigit surrenders and goes to jail leaving Emir to find a legal way to get him out.

Emir has someone plant the gun that did the shooting on one of Hakki's men thus clearing Yigit of the crime and getting him released. With the war between Seyhan and Yigit now escalating Hakki is told to call for a truce in that this will not end well for anyone, especially the crime family as a whole.

Terms of the truce are revealed at Hakki's house, whereby Seyhan demands that all the business that Yigit claimed when he killed Seyhan's brother along with the $6 million dollars he confiscated. Yigit agrees as long as the original video of Emir shooting and killing his man is given with no other copies.

With a weakend Yigit , Seyhan increases his desire to increase the drug trade into the Istanbul market at a greater amount. Yigit finds the distributors and the location of the next major load of drugs coming in and informs Emir where the exchange of drug will take place and a sting operation is formed. Seyhan is caught accepting delivery. With Seyhan imprisoned, Yigit begins his quest to leave Istanbul for good and leave his crime life behind him. Yigit gives Kubra a letter to give to Elif on her 18th birthday.

The final scenes of Episode 26 show clips of the four years that lapse as Yigit lives in some mountain hideaway with only Gul coming to see him. When it is learned that Seyhan has escaped prison and once again wants to take revenge on Yigit and Emir, Yigit returns to Istanbul to seek redemption and save his family.

Meanwhile, Emir has received evidence that can put away not only Hakki , but also the top guy Abi. Hakki is instructed to eliminate the evidence along with getting rid of Emir that has become a thorn in their sides. Hakki has Elif kidnapped getting both Yigit and Emirs attention and offers Yigit a deal that would make him the head of the criminal empire if only he returns the evidence and hand over his brother Emir to be executed.

This is the scene where the series began with the standoff between Yigit and Hakki with Elif being used as bait. Emir has agreed to give them the evidence and also give himself to Hakki as long as Elif is made safe. During the exchange Yigit grabs Hakki and puts a gun to his head and tells Emir to go get Elif and get her safe and away from there. When the shooting starts Emir returns to try to save Yigit who has killed Hakki but is gravely wounded as Emir shoots the final guard that Yigit didn't shoot.

Emir puts Yigit into the car and pleads with him to hold on until the hospital, but Yigit realizes that he will not make it and asks that he gets placed under a tree where he can look at the sky and get his final look at life.

Kubra goes into premature labor because of all the stress and is rushed to the hospital not knowing what has happened to her family. The baby boy is delivered by cesarian section is put into an incubator to help him because he is so small.

A very shaken Emir arrives with Elif who goes to her mother and gives word that her uncle is asleep after all the guns shot. Kubra looks to Emir whose faces tells everything.

The final scene has Kubra taking Elif to Yigit's grave as a prelude to the scene of Elif's 18th birthday and the letter that was promised to be read is completed by a grown Elif.

Much of this series has been about Yigit and his struggles with keeping his promises to the women he perceived to love and all the effects that his decisions caused on them.

His letter to Elif reads as follows

Elif, My daughter,

When you reach an age to understand this letter, I will be far away, I apologize for having to go, for not being a real father to you. Maybe I will not see you walking, Hear you when you say " Baba" for the first time, when you learn to read, I cannot see you fall in love, But know this, I will always love.

One day, they will tell you everything, I am the one who made unforgivable mistakes and I will carry the burden of those mistakes to the end of my life. I left behind people who will not forgive me.

And one day, you will ask " where is my real father? " Just know that no matter where your father is in the world, his heart is always with you, my daughter. Whether I am over or under ground, it does not matter, We never leave ones that love us.

Never forget this. My only wish for you my daughter, is that you have a long life with people that love your faults. With people who can forgive you and who can give you the power forgive mistakes made towards you.

Know the value of your friends. Sometimes they even become more of a family to you. Friends are the taste of this life; maybe even the most precious part.

Love. Love is the bitter part, if you ask me. It is what makes people make mistakes, the heartbreaker, a life- giving thing, this love. Or maybe there is a broken thing in my heart. Who knows? But you need to know that you are the only owner of this heart and you always will be.

My angel daughter, have a beautiful life and don't ever get sad. I love you so much.

Your Father

Yigit Kilic

This day has been a long time coming and Kubra has some thoughts on how this letter effects her husband Emir and their daughter Elif

Kubra: My darling husband…. You've been my rock …. But when I look into your eyes I see an uneasiness about this letter….. are you worried that Elif will see you differently

Emir: I'm sure that she will have questions….. that's has been her nature ever since she has been able to speak

Kubra: we've both been able to answer those questions….. today will be no different…. We've both learned our lesson when neither one of us talk and hold things in.

Kubra and Emir both have a flashback to the day they had this first argument about not talking to each other

Kubra: that day when you would go into your introverted state … I didn't understand you….. but when you cross examined me I slowly began to understand … Remember… you were so miserable… you wouldn't talk to me and I got mad and asked you … just tell me…. When I said aren't we at least friends and you got even more offended

Emir: back then I was trying so hard to have you see me more than a place holder for Yigit…. When you said we were just friends…. I thought I was fighting a loosing battle…. I loved you so much and it never registered with you

Kubra: it registered especially after I said … We're two strangers who happen to play hide and seek everyday because we were incapable of talking about anything… When you answered …. It's because of me…. I saw how much of a problem I was….. I thought that you would always settle for being you …. Emir the one that just took Elif and I in and would never complain about it….. you committed your life to us without question. It must of drove you crazy seeing me continue to mope at not getting any response from Yigit and there you were showing me more love than I had ever seen and I couldn't see it . Sweetheart…. I'm so thankful you are the way you are…. You deserve all the respect and honor for being the father and husband that you are.

Emir: Kubra my love, I had you and our family for the past 18 years that is all I've ever wanted

Kubra: Ever since Yigit gave me this letter , I've thought about this day and how it would make you feel. Yigit always had a way with words to achieve his desires…. You on the other hand let your actions speak for themselves. You and your brother were so different and Elif will need to know the difference. When Elif returns with her questions….. I will give her my letter for her 18th birthday

Emir: Will you let me read it

Kubra: no my love, because I know you won't let me give it….. Elif needs to read her mother's words

When Elif returns from Yigit's grave she is both happy and sad. Her first question was

Elif: Why didn't you tell me when he was still alive…. Didn't I have a right to know who my real father was

Kubra looks at Emir and sees his heart broken

Kubra: Elif…. Before you say anything else that you will come to regret …. There is another letter you need to read….. your mother's letter to you

Kubra's Letter to Elif

My precious Elif

Today, is your 18th birthday, the day that you are officially a woman, one that can make her own decisions and begin to live the life that you choose. Today will also be the day that you will read words from the man that you knew to be your uncle but in fact was not.

As you read his words you will understand that he was your biological father. The term father has many implications. My father, Sadullah…. that never deserved being called father. He was responsible for all the troubles that the Kilic family endured and the sole reason I was impregnated by Yigit and why you were born.

Yigit, was furious when I didn't abort you….. but at that time, I thought that my love for Yigit would eventually make him come to his senses and we could become a family.

My darling daughter, the only man that came to our rescue was the only man that you have called father since the moment you were born. Emir took us into his house and gave us a place to live strictly because you were of his blood and he loved you from the moment he saw you.

Elif, I've read Yigit's letter so many times over the years that I can recite it word for word and what his intent was with it. Yes, he was your biological father, but he was never once your real father or what a real father does for his daughter.

Yigit refused to even contribute to your name. You were three weeks old and still didn't have a name. Aunt Derya said that the state required that every new born baby be registered before one month of their birth. Aunt Derya suggested the name Elif, Emir loved it and I agreed. Yigit refused to acknowledge it.

Emir came with me to the citizen register to record you as a new born. When the Register asked for the name of the father, I said no since Yigit wanted nothing to do with you. Emir, didn't hesitate and said that he was your father and that is why legally Emir Kilic is your legal father.

Elif, I'm telling you these things so that when you decide who to call father, you can understand what that means. Emir suggested that we marry so that no one would dare to call you illegitimate and have scorn placed on me as an unwed mother. Emir did this because he loved us both, even though I didn't know how to love him back.

My love for Emir came when he heard that Yigit finally decided that he wanted to be with us, even though he was married to Sibel, who was also pregnant by him. Emir was willing to divorce us if it meant that Yigit would finally accept us. I looked into Emir's heart and knew that no other man could love us more and I decided that we belonged to Emir and we were his family.

As a Matter of Respect, Emir is the only real father that you will ever know….. he has loved you unconditionally….. he has shown that he would give up his life to save you. These past 18 years he has done everything to give us the happiest life possible. We are the family that I always dreamed of having.

Sweetheart, the day that you were kidnapped would never had happened if the choices that Yigit had made prior had never occurred. He paid the price for the choices that he made.

Emir, your real father always chose us

Your loving Mother

Kubra Kilic

Elif's eyes are filled with tears for some of the words she said at Yigit's grave. She rushes into Emir's arms

Elif : Papa…. I'm so sorry….. This letter confused me….. you are the only father I know… I love you more than anything….. I hope I'm as lucky as mom to find a man like you when I marry

Emir: Sweetheart….. you've been my joy since the first time I held you… there is nothing to be sorry about…. But I don't want you thinking about marriage until you finish your education

Elif: Oh… Papa

Elif's younger brother's ….. Yigit and Hasan… come rushing in wondering when they can eat.

Kubra: As soon as Auntie Derya and Uncle Selim arrive we will all eat

Yigit: oh mom….. I'm really hungry

Kubra: Here…. share this fruit with Hasan…. I swear you two will eat us out of house and home

Derya and Selim arrive and give Elif her birthday gift and they all sit down to eat dinner. After dinner Kubra brings out the special cake she made with the number 18 all in glitter with 18 candles lit so that Elif can blow them out.

Derya: Did you make a wish….. by the way when are we going to meet that boy you've been talking about

Emir: So your the one putting these ideas into her head….. she will finish her education before she gets herself confused with any boy

Derya: look at her, she is beautiful …. The boys are lining up for her

Kubra: you're so bad Derya…. You will never change

Derya: Elif…. Did he get you something special

Elif: Oh Auntie….. you're getting me in trouble again…. You know Papa doesn't want to hear of boys

Emir: So there is a boy…. Then I want to meet him

Elif: Papa…. He is afraid to meet you

Emir: What kind of boy is he….. if he is afraid to meet me

Kubra: Sweetheart …. you can be intimidating…. They don't know how sweet and gentle you are

Emir: Kubra….. have you met him

Kubra: I know who he is….. he appears to be a very nice boy

Derya: How time flies….. Emir did you forget when you and Yigit came to the neighborhood and you set your sight on Sibel

Kubra looks at Derya with a stern look: Derya… today is not the day to talk of the past

Elif: Mom … has Papa always been with you…. Did he ever have other girls

Kubra: Your papa was the classic tall , dark and very handsome….. he could've had any girl he wanted , but he always knew what he wanted….. I'm so grateful that he did

Emir blushes: can we change this conversation

Elif opens her presents and thanks everyone for her special day. Derya and Selim say their goodnight and leave. Elif, Yigit and Hasan go to their respective bedrooms. Emir and Kubra do the same.

Emir: are you going to tell me what you wrote in that letter….. Elif was in tears

Kubra: No I'm not going to tell you…. But I am going to show you

Emir: How are you going to show me what you wrote

Kubra: This is why I love you so much…. For being such a hard nose lawyer …. You still are the sweet and naive man that you have always been… Come to me my tall dark and handsome. Writing that letter made me want you and how very lucky I am that you are mine. I had flashbacks of our first night that we made love …. I was so nervous that I wouldn't please you

Emir: If you remember correctly …. I was to afraid to do anything to offend you…. I couldn't believe that you finally came to be with me.

Kubra: when we finally kissed as husband and wife your gentleness overwhelmed me. Your gentle touch of my body made me want you more than I could ever imagine. For me you became my perfect lover….. no one could ever take your place. Now 18 years later I still feel the same and I want you just as much… come to bed and make love to me … I need you especially after today.

Emir begins to undress Kubra and still sees the same beautiful body that he saw that first night. As he gently kisses her lips his hands cup her aroused breasts and nipples

Kubra : Do you know how much I love you….. love me like you always have….. She takes his hand and lets him feel her wetness

Emir feeling how excited Kubra is , he picks her up and lays her on the bed and spreads her legs to see the vagina that has given him so much satisfaction these past 18 years. He places his tongue and gently licks those soft lubricated vaginal lips giving Kubra the sensation that she wants. She places her hands onto his head and pulls him closer that his tongue is inside her as she grinds her vagina against his mouth.

Kubra: don't stop….I can't believe how good you are…..

While he continues licking his thumb caress her clitoris and the stimulation to begin her orgasm…. She then pulls his head away signaling that she wants him to enter her with his penis. She rolls him onto his back so that she can straddle him and she can control the rhythm of each thrust . Though she is tiny compared to his large frame her vagina welcomes his penis and they both achieve ultimate satisfaction. After 18 years of being together they know each others likes and dislikes.

Emir: What exactly did you put in that letter that caused you to get this excited

Kubra: You've read Yigit's letter and I know you understood that he wanted to overshadow everything that he did wrong and wanted to paint this picture of a father figure that he never was. When Elif said didn't she have a right to know her real father… I knew I couldn't let this fallacy left unanswered. That has been what I feared all these years. My letter told her the truth , Yigit was a fraud and a cheat and he has always been concerned about himself and how he looked. I didn't say it in those words but I let Yigit's action relay the same conclusions.

Emir: I really wasn't upset when she said that

Kubra: I saw you and your heart was shattered…. I couldn't let that stand…. I know our daughter as well as you do…. When you give her the actual facts she knows what's real and what isn't. I couldn't let her just see Yigit's false self worth... she needed to see all of his blemishes and his cruelty. He made those choices and he paid the price for them. You have never lied to me and you always kept your promises …. I simply made Elif understand what the definition of a real father is…. You my beloved husband are as real as a real father can be. There is no distinction in your heart when it comes to Elif, Yigit and Hasan ….. you are their real father.

Emir: I gotta say the next time you write a letter that you don't want me to read . I can live with the way you show me.

Kubra: Being your wife has been my greatest honor…. Being the mother of your children has been my greatest accomplishment …. Thank you for never giving up on me... love me some more... this night isn't over with.
