Backstory:
Born the son of a New Orleans native and the king of Corina, Matthew and his siblings had been sent away by their mother in 1993 to protect them from their paternal aunt. They lived with maternal relatives from New Orleans until 1994, therefore not going into royalty, for their mother didn't want that of her sons, they however were too late for Alina.
Matthew moved around the United States and found himself in Ithaca, NY. He met a young girl named Kimberly Dempsey and he had helped her after she was beaten by her foster-parents. Taking on the role of her protective best friend, Matthew took it upon himself to see that she was given everything she needed.
By age 17, Matthew went onto enlist in the United States Army with the blessing of his mother, he served with the 1st Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment, he is currently of the rank Sergeant First Class.
His 3 older brothers Steve, Joseph and Alexander are also members of the US Armed Forces, Joseph and Steve are Lieutenants in the US Navy SEALs. Alexander is a 2nd Lieutenant who once served in the 2nd Ranger Battalion for 7-years before joining the Delta Force. His youngest brother Enzo is a US Marine Sergeant who is somewhat of a daredevil.
He has a older nephew named Alex Lafayette who is a Delta Force operator overseas.
He has a nephew named Joseph Lafayette Jr who is a Navy SEAL serving under command of his brother Joseph.
After 12-years of combat with the Army Rangers, Matthew transferred to the reserves and joined NCIS, before going undercover, he was assigned to Los Angeles working with the OSP office, he was stationed undercover in Moscow for over 2 weeks.

Matthew is a closely guarded war-veteran, with 12-years of duty on his belt, he is a believer in honor and duty.
He moved around regularly as a young man until he settled in New York City with his brothers Steve and Joseph. They're extraordinarily close, despite a 9-year gap.
His family means everything to him, he loves young children shown by his relationship with his goddaughter Hope, he prays for the day he finds the right girl to be with. Loyalty means everything to him.
Through 9-years of duty with the Rangers in Iraq and Afghanistan, Matthew has been shot 8-times, tortured twice, mentally scarred by the images he has seen first hand.
But in 3-years with the NCIS, he was shot twice and tortured once. It has seemed like his mental stability has gotten worse, hanging on by the only thread that is tethered to his stability, the only things keeping him afloat are his family, his brothers in arms and the people that he holds dear to him.
Love Life:
Being a believer of love, Matthew has had 1 girlfriend. He was engaged to a girl named Charlotte O'Hara who was his high school sweetheart from Manhattan.
The engagement lasted for 2 years. Charlotte wanted to move into the house that Matt had bought for Kimberly and Hope when he turned 18 so that they could live together. It also meant that Kimberly and Hope would be forced to live on the streets.
Knowing he couldn't let Hope and Kimberly live on the streets of New York City, he ended his engagement out of respect for his loyalty and a debt he owed to Kimberly's unknown brother Nathaniel. He still wore the engagement ring out of love, even a deep reminder of what he had lost.
He does however have a crush on his fellow NCIS Agent Kensi Blye, but he won't act on it due to guilt of his previous engagement.
