Hello lovelies x I know I have another fanfiction unfinished but could not find the muse for it lately. After watching The Falcon and The Winter soldier I have become somewhat obsessed with Bucky and thought that he and Hermione would make a perfect fit. This story will most likely be a journey of different aspects and I really hope you will enjoy this as much as I enjoy writing it. Hermione's story will start off with time-travel, but we will come back to the future at some point. Some things will be made possible, that will not necessarily be possible in the Harry Potter Universe, but it is fanfiction, right? This first chapter will be the introduction to the story and will not have a lot of Dialogue, but it will move on from this in the following chapters. I do know how this story will end and that Hermione and Bucky will be Endgame, but how they get there is not yet written in stone. Also, while Hermione will be travelling back in time, she will not be altering too much of what has happened during that time originally, which will be explained during the story. I really hope you will enjoy this, let me know what you think xx
When Hermione first joined the Department of Mysteries, she did not know what to expect as little was known about the work they were doing and when she first told her friends they thought she was barmy for becoming an Unspeakable. After graduation Hermione was offered a position from almost every Department within the Ministry and while she could have easily climbed to the top of whichever Department she would have decided on, she chose to become an Unspeakable. Ever since her first encounter with a Time Turner Hermione's curiosity was sparked and still to this day, the idea of manipulating time, while morally questionable, was something that never left her mind. Hermione did not want to manipulate time for her own personal gain, she wanted to help. She often thought back on the two wizarding wars, thinking how a Time Turner could have changed the outcome of both wars, perhaps even erase the second war. She knew that it was dangerous changing the past, but she knew that if one were to only travel a couple of hours back in time several lives could have been saved.
During their little stunt in her fifth year, she got a glimpse inside the Department of Mysteries and her curiosity was only fuelled when she learnt that during that specific fight the entire stock of time turners was destroyed. She knew that after the war the Department would be short staffed, and it was highly possible for her to be assigned the Time Room. Fate had a funny way of presenting itself, but when Hermione was accepted as an Unspeakable and the Head of her Department asked her if she had any preferences on where to work, he was more than happy with her answer. It seemed that no one else had wanted to work in the Time Room as it was the Room with the least knowledge acquired and Hermione was told that she would almost have to start from scratch. Looking back, she knew that it was the right choice becoming an Unspeakable. Her work was challenging and could almost be viewed as an independent study. She was free to work in whatever direction her research took her, there were no limits – apart from the last words uttered by her Head of Department before he keyed her into the security warding of the Time Room. Just try not to get yourself killed.
Hermione had been working hard during her first year. She recreated a Time Turner based on various books she found within the Department of Mysteries and successfully went back in time for exactly one hour. Since then, she had tested her Time Turner every day to get a broader result on how it worked. The furthest she went back in time was 10 hours, but she would not call it successful. Upon her arrival in the past, she noticed that she had splinched herself rather badly all over her back and was seen immediately by a healer from her own Department. Hermione had learnt weeks prior that two healers were employed by the Department of Mysteries for injuries that could not be explained to St. Mungos or any legal Department and therefor Hermione had asked a Healer to be present during her trials.
After the ten-hour-incident, as she liked to call it, she spent more and more hours researching. She wanted to find out if there was connection between time travel and apparition. To successfully complete an Apparition, one had to be focused and always remember The Three Ds: Destination, Determination and Deliberation. Hermione turned her research towards the possibility of combining Apparition and Time Travel, making it possible to not only chose how far back one wants to go, but where someone wants to go. She thought it was an important aspect of Time Travel as sometimes you would not be able to know if nine or ten hours back someone was in the exact same location of your departure in the future. If she were able to connect Apparition and Time Travel, Hermione could minimise the risk the time traveller took.
After another two years of extensive research and experiments, Hermione was sure that she had succeeded in combining Apparition and Time Travel. Runes and a spell were inscribed into the edge of the medallion that Hermione had hand crafted as her Time Turner. The medallion had a 2 inches diameter and a hole of about three-quarter inches right in the middle. The centre of the medallion was replaced by a smaller plate with a realistic looking white wolf engraved. Hermione had chosen the white wolf simply because it was her Animagus, which she surprisingly had learnt a year before creating the medallion. During her research for the Time Turner, she had come across various books that only mentioned it in passing but focused on other forms of magic including the transformation to become an Animagus and with the approval of her Head of Department Hermione learnt the transformation and other branches of magic that she had not mastered before. Never once, did her extracurricular activities distract her from her task but during those activities she also gained a stronger understanding of magic itself as well as her own personal magic.
The healer in charge that day had been silently standing in the next room for an hour as Hermione had activated her Time Turner by twisting the white wolf once and focusing on the place where she intended to go. To say it was a success was an understatement. It was a huge break through for the entire Department and her boss was very pleased with the result. He had asked her where she wanted to go next with her research and Hermione explained how she wanted to attempt to be able to go back to a specific time or date and not just be able to travel back in time hourly. It would make the use of the Time Turner much more efficient. He agreed and muttered the words that Hermione had heard three years prior. Just try not to get yourself killed.
