"Mommy! Mommy!" Skykit screamed as her sister chased after her. Violetstar purred as Sparrowkit pounced on her sister and pinned her down as Skykit screamed in protest.
"Skykit, Sparrowkit! Come over here! It's time for bed!" Violetstar called as she motioned her tail to the setting sun. Many cats were heading to their dens to sleep. She sat in front of the nursery. Her kits came running towards her, and while Skykit stopped, Sparrowkit crashed into her.
"Oh no! Fell by the mighty Sparrowstar!" Violetstar called dramatically, "My own daughter! Oh the horror, the horror!" she finished with pretending to fall limp on the ground.
"YEAH! I'm gonna be just like Mommy! Sparrowstar, the greatest leader of the mighty Northern Clans!" Sparrowkit screeched.
"You can be anything you want to be, my little hummingbird." Violetstar purred as Sparrowkit jumped around, "But only if you get to bed."
"What? But I was just about to beat Skykit!" Sparrowkit whined as she pinned her sister again. Violetstar laughed.
"Mommy! Sparrowkit plays too rough!" Skykit cried as she shoved her sister off.
"Nuh-uh!" Sparrowkit snapped.
"Yuh-uh!"
"Nuh-uh!"
"Yuh-uh!"
Violetstar could tell this argument would last forever.
"Why don't I tell you a story?" Violetstar asked.
"A story? Could the other kits join us?" Skykit asked.
"Well, they'll be in the nursery as well, so I don't see why not!" Violetstar purred as she trotted into the den with Sparrowkit running ahead and Skykit behind Violetstar's leg.
"What's this I hear about a story?" Mistyflower asked.
"Mama's gonna tell us a story! And you can listen too!" Sparrowkit purred.
"A story? From Violetstar?" Rainkit purred. She trotted over towards Sparrowkit and lied down. Soon, there was a small pile of kits consisting of Violetstar's Sparrowkit and Skykit, Mistyflower's Rainkit, Puddlekit, Streamkit, and Poolkit, and Creamfrost's older kits, Waspkit and Pricklekit, at the bottom.
"Which story should I do?" Violetstar asked aloud.
"Could you tell us about Dad?" Skykit asked. Violetstar froze. She could see the other queens looked uncomfortable.
"Are- Are you sure? This story . . . it doesn't end in that happy of an ending."
"I- no. We need to know about Dad." Skykit said with a strong spirit.
"Alright. I suppose . . . alright. But you two better behave yourselves." Violetstar warned.
All of the kits nodded. Even Waspkit and Pricklekit, who usually fell asleep before they even started a story, were looking intently at Violetstar. She breathed in, and then out.
"It all started in a forest due south from here."
Whoo! I did it! Sorry it's so short, but this is the prologue of Wild and Free. Nothin' much to say, so just keep a look-out for Chapter 1!
