Chapter 1 Ancient Evil

Long ago in the age of knights, there once lived a powerful magic user named the Enchantress who lived in a great tower called the Tower of Fate. The Enchantress ruled her land with an iron fist and with her magic created an army of creatures called Liquid Samurai to help control her territory. She ruled her land for many years, but as time passed the Enchantress grew board and power hungry, so she began to set her eyes on conquering the world. The Enchantress used a magic mirror called the Mirror of Fate to spy on the neighboring lands and saw that they were filled with great and powerful warriors. She studied the warriors and came to realize that they were far greater then her Liquid Samurai warriors.
"I need great warriors to serve as my generals and lead my army." Thought the Enchantress as she began to form a plan to gather some warriors.
The Enchantress created a magical amulet that had the power over life and death and placed it in an old abandoned castle. She then went about spreading rumors about the amulet to get adventures to come to the castle. The Enchantress was going to see who would show up and recruit them to her side. Four adventures ended up traveling to the castle. Two of the adventures were a man named Donovan and another man named Luan. Luan wanted to use the amulet to keep his son safe and his friend Donovan wanted to help him. The other two adventures were a man called Shovel Knight and a woman called Shield Knight, who believed the amulet was too dangerous and that it had to be destroyed.
The two teams reached the chamber where the amulet was kept and got into an argument over it. Just when it seemed like Shovel Knight and Shield Knight were about to convince Donovan and Luan to aid them in destroying the amulet, the Enchantress who had been watching from the shadows used her magic to manipulate Donovan and made him go berserk and attack the others. Luan was badly injured by Donovan and Shovel Knight and Shield Knight were forced to go on the defensive. They fought to a standstill and then the Enchantress decided to use her magic to cause the castle to collapse. Shovel Knight and Shield Knight managed to escape the crumbling castle, but Luan was killed and Donovan was gravely wounded and buried under the derby. The Enchantress found Donovan and offered to save his life using her amulet in return for his loyalty and services. Not wanting to die Donovan agreed to the Enchantress's offer.
The Enchantress used her amulet to save Donovan by turning him into a undead ghoul. The process took a great toll on Donovan and he lost his memory. The Enchantress took advantage of this and gave Donovan a new name and a scythe. Donovan now went by the name Specter Knight and he served as a general for the Enchantress and helped her recruit more knights to her cause.
The Enchantress launched her plans for world conquest and she started to send her forces out to do her will. Eventually a force lead by Shovel Knight and Shield Knight rose to oppose the Enchantress and her army. The opposing army fought their way to the Tower of Fate. They had to fight Specter Knight, who proved to be a great foe, but thanks to some powerful magic of their own the undead knight was placed into a enchanted slumber and placed into a coffin. The knights then faced off against the Enchantress and they managed to slay her, but her spirit came back as a vengeful ghost, but the knights used the amulet to seal the Enchantress's ghost inside the magical object.
Both the amulet and the coffin that contained Specter Knight were locked away in an underground tomb and neither would see the light of day for a very long time.
