A/N: Like the summary says, this is basically a genderbent retelling of the movie (not a full genderbend, but mostly), with a LOT of new content added to the original ideas. Why? Because I can and because it's fun :3 Lol. Certain names, like the name of the manor will be changed, just for funsies. But it will remain true to the spirit (hehe) of Casper. I hope you enjoy ;)

Thunder crashed, and a heavy rain was falling upon an enormous mansion located apart from a small town. Waves crashed against the rocks of the massive cliffs that the house was perched upon.

High above, standing at the edge of the mansion's roof was a young girl. A girl who went by the name of Vera. Vera looked down at the ground below, shut her eyes, and let herself fall off the roof.

Down, down, down she fell... before she suddenly flew upward to the sky. "Ha! Take that, Death!"

As if to answer her, a bolt of lightning formed, passing right through her, again having no effect. She laughed again at the good timing, and so she continued to taunt the specter of death. "Ooh, so close. Try again, jackass!"

Once upon a time, anyone who saw this girl would describe her as a normal looking teenage girl, probably 15 or 16, with long blonde hair and green eyes.

But now, they would describe her as a teenage girl with long hair that, while gray in color, had clearly once been blonde, and green eyes which stuck out from the gray that covered everything else about her, as if she had walked straight out of an old black-and-white photo album. She wore a long white dress which covered her arms and ended at her ankles, leaving her hands and feet uncovered. The dress was elegant and clearly old-fashioned, and was sewn with diamond shape patterns.

Then again, most people probably wouldn't even get far enough to see all of those characteristics. They would probably only see how literally transparent she was, and then turn and run away screaming about a ghost.

As Vera floated high in the air with a silly smile, she turned over and looked down at the mansion she had inhabited for centuries now, and her smile changed to a frown. To ordinary people, as in living people, it would look like an amazing piece of architecture that they would want to live in. To Vera, it was more like a prison.

Well, okay, that was a little harsh. Most prisons weren't this nice or allowed their prisoners this much space.

She was not physically trapped here, but more like mentally trapped. She had tried to leave many times and each time she felt an overwhelming sadness and loss, and she was forced to turn around and return. Vera could never find out why this was happening to her in all the years she had been on this Earth.

It didn't help that she had no one to talk to. Well, at least not all the time. But then, the only company she had had for so many years weren't exactly friendly to her... and besides, they had been gone for months at this point. She was starting to doubt they were coming back.

And so she usually passed her alone time with whatever she could think of to entertain herself. Experiences like falling off the roof and pretending like the ground could actually hurt her before flying to safety.

Okay, it was kind of morbid, but it was kind of fun too. If Vera knew what a roller coaster was, she'd probably say the thrill was just like that, but not as bumpy.

Being a ghost certainly had some perks. She could fly, she could go invisible, she could pass through solid objects. It was amazing! Even now, she couldn't help but think that flying so high and watching the rain fall down to earth was so cool. She could do lots of things pretty much any human would love to do, as long as they didn't have to die first like she did.

But even those powers lost their spark after having them for years and years. She didn't even know how long it had been since she died. Even worse, she didn't know anything about her time alive. If she tried to remember it, nothing came to her mind. It was like she had just appeared in this world in her current state. She didn't know why she was here, or how long she would be here. She just didn't know.

As Vera was lost in her thoughts, her eyes caught sight of something down below. Flashes of light down in the courtyard of the mansion. She realized they were produced by two headlights on a car as it rolled up to the mansion gates. She watched as someone ran out in the rain to pull one side open, only for the car to drive off without them, leaving the poor person to wildly run after the car.

Vera allowed herself to fall down again, this time passing right through the roof and down into the house. She floated down the second floor hallway to the main hall of the mansion, waiting for the new visitors to arrive.

The double doors practically burst open as a sandy-blonde haired woman clothed in an expensive looking black sweater dress covered by a black trench coat stepped in. Her shoes stuck out against the rest of her clothes, being bright red high heels, the same color as her lipstick. The lady huffed and lit up a cigarette. She seemed... normal enough, but Vera could immediately sense some unpleasant feeling from this woman.

"Ugh... after all these years, it hasn't changed a bit."

Another woman stepped in a minute later, soaking wet and shivering. She was younger than the other woman, dressed in a gray business attire and wearing fogged up glasses. She had bright blonde hair, drenched from the rain and tied back in a ponytail, as well as bright green eyes and a face caked in smudged makeup. Closing the door behind her, she wiped her glasses clean and took out her phone and turned on its flashlight, shining it all over the main hall.

"Oh my. Isn't it amazing, Miss Kress? After all these years, it hasn't changed a bit!"

Vera chuckled softly. She seemed a lot more bubbly compared to who she assumed was the younger woman's boss.

The older woman rolled her eyes, unseen by her awestruck assistant who continued to ramble on about the impressiveness of the manor.

"Shhhhhh," the older woman said, putting a finger to her lips, silencing her assistant. "Do you hear that, Penny?"

Penny listened nervously. "Um..."

"Do you hear the calming sound of ocean shores? Did you perhaps see the beautiful sight of the moon reflected in the waves?"

"N-no, ma'am?"

"What do you hear?"

"Rain... ma'am?"

"Exactly," Miss Kress huffed, shaking her head in disgust. "Lightning and rainstorms... it's fitting, if nothing else. A spooky, outdated relic... much like him."

"Of course, ma'am..."

"This is all he left his so-called little angel. Some piece of junk house on a dangerous cliff with a graveyard out back!" Kress continued to despair. "The ocean on one side, and big forest areas nearby full of snakes!"

"I believe the snakes around here are harmless, ma-augh!" Penny coughed as Kress blew smoke in her face.

"Daddy just couldn't let me have something I wanted, could he? He never could. I sat with him at his bedside, holding his clammy hand for days and this is what I get? Some lousy piece of property that could fall into the sea at any time?"

"Of course, ma'am..."

Kress sighed dramatically. "Well, come on. Let's start looking around. Make sure everything is in order so we can push this dump on someone else. I'm going to get something out of all this."

"Right now?" Penny asked in surprise, looking around at the very dark surroundings.

"No, tomorrow, you moron. Yes, right now. What do you think we drove here for? There's a power switch in the basement or something that activates power for the whole house."

"Oh, well, that's useful," Penny said with a smile.

There was a long silence. Neither of them moved. Kress glared at the younger woman. "That was a hint for you to go into the basement and find the switch."

"Oh! Of course, ma'am!"

"Idiot," Miss Kress groaned loudly and finally managed an unpleasant smile. "Well, even if we don't find someone to take this dump, I can always just watch it be demolished."

"Hey!" Vera shouted angrily, and immediately slapped her hands to her mouth in shock. She didn't mean to yell, her emotions had gotten the best of her. She wasn't even sure why. It's not like she had some deep connection to this house. At least... that's what she thought.

Miss Kress quickly grabbed Penny and hid behind her. "Ask who that is..." She whispered.

"Um... who that- oh, whoops. Who is that?!" Penny called, shining her light all over.

Vera cursed under her breath and stayed silent.

"Tell her we know she's up there."

"Hey! Who's there? We both heard you up there. It's okay, you're not in trouble."

"Like hell she isn't," Kress muttered.

"I can't answer your question," Vera called back, cringing at how unsure of herself she sounded. As if she had anything to fear from such a horrible woman. Yet for some reason, the woman was making her voice quiver.

"Ask her why not."

"Why not, sweetie?"

Vera's mind raced, and she felt like she needed to take deep breaths for some reason, even though she couldn't even breathe. "I... It's hard to explain."

"Is she a homeless kid or something?"

"Is she a homeless kid or something?"

Kress smacked Penny on the head and hissed, "Ask her, you useless moron!"

Vera shook her head in disbelief. Her first contact with the living in so long, and it was someone this horrible? Thankfully, this Penny woman seemed rather sweet, just a little scatterbrained.

"Ow... um... are you homeless or something, dear?" Kress rolled her eyes at Penny's overly polite questioning.

"No... well... not exactly."

"Tell her to show herself."

"Come on out, sweetie."

"I... I can't."

"Why not? It's okay, maybe we can help you."

"Oh, my god... alright, that's it!" Kress violently yanked the phone from Penny and shoved her out of the way, making the poor woman stumble and fall hard on the floor with a gasp of pain. Seeing this, Vera's eyes hardened as Kress shined the light up the stairs and yelled out to her.

"Look, you stupid little brat, this is my property, so get down here right now and out this door before I call the cops!"

"Miss Kress!" Penny exclaimed, her voice carrying more confidence than usual, as well as a surprising amount of anger. "She's just a child!"

"When I want your input, I'll ask for it. Now zip it. Did you hear me, kid?!"

"Yeah, I heard you," Vera called back, suddenly finding herself shaking with anger. The windows and doors of the house began to rattle. It was time to show off another power she had. When she became angry, the house seemed to respond to her emotional state. "Fine. As you wish, lady."

The doors throughout the house suddenly opened and slammed hard all at once, making Kress jump in fear. "What the...?!"

Vera floated down from the stairs, her eyes wide in a frightening enraged look. Her eyes began to glow a faint blue. "Do you see me now?" She rasped, her voice low, yet booming. Icy cold winds kicked up suddenly.

Kress let out a long scream and ran out the front door, screaming all the way to her car, Penny following behind.

Vera sighed, letting her powers die down as she flew up to a window and watched the car speed away. She felt bad about scaring the nice woman away as well, but it was worth it to frighten away her horrible boss.

Of course, now that the booming had stopped and silence filled the house again, Vera felt twice as lonely.
