what do I mean about ''to some extent'', they can go toe to toe with a super power but not for a extended period of time. why? their economy relies on trade.

austroasia: an export giant rivaling China, India and Europe. they are self reliant. austroasia controls a system with two habitable worlds. with the help of the abyss gate. one of them is a "farming world" while the other a "production world". they are currently in the middle of colonizing a system when the event poped up.
United States of America: a military and economic power house but they need the resources from their systems (in which there are 3, two of which has habitable worlds) to maintain economic growth. they also use abyss gates. they are self reliant.
European Union: a massive economic alliance with one of the most efficient trade routes. powerful economy and military. controls fifteen systems with only one of them having a habitable world. they are self reliant.
