Hungover

The sheets moved slightly, causing Hikaru to flutter his eyes open. A few seconds passed before he could finally feel the pounding headache creeping into his mind, melting his brain. Images of the previous night flashed in his head like a faulty light: though he couldn't be bothered to fixate on the blurry and somewhat unimportant events of last night.

He felt an arm around his bare chest, another sign of the mistake of last night. Whoever he was in bed with, he didn't even remember her name. He would have laughed if it wasn't for the headache that continuously got worse.

He glanced around his room, the blues and greens muddling together from his hazy vision. He was able to sit up, pulling the arm wrapped around his stomach away and letting it fall onto the bed. He rubbed his face, running both hands through his bed hair.

He managed to pull the covers away and get up, focusing not on his headache but walking to his closet. One foot in front of the other, of course, he knew how to walk.

Grabbing whatever clothes were in front of him, he pulled on his shirt over his head, trying to be quick to leave his room before the girl even woke up.

Usually, he tried not to blackout. He did not drink too much as he always tried to keep his composure at parties. Yet last night was different, apparently. For whatever reason, he drank too much too quickly.

It didn't bother him, however. He went with the flow, and as long as his father didn't criticize him at breakfast today, he would be in the clear.

He slipped on his shoes, not glancing towards the bed as he opened the door and walked out. He heard a small snort next to him, and his eyes narrowed as he looked towards Simon. He was holding a hand to his face, clearly laughing at him.

"If you keep doing that, I'll have you executed." Hikaru crossed his arms, running his right hand through his hair once again. He kept a straight face, even though he could tell Simon knew he was joking.

Simon held in a laugh, "No offense, Your Highness, but you look as if you had a monkey dress you in the dark."

Hikaru looked down at his outfit, noticing the blue suit jacket with red dress pants and brown shoes. He shrugged. "I'm trying a new style." Hikaru cooly replied.

"What would that be called? Colorblindness?" Simon retorted. Hikaru shook his head, taking his right hand and flipping Simon off before walking down the hall.

Simon was following behind him, still laughing as they both walked to the dining hall where breakfast would be served.

"What happened last night?" Hikaru asked, "I mean, I remember, obviously, I just want to test you to make sure you were paying attention."

Simon sighed slightly. "After the first hour, you started talking to Princess Cyandith of Germany. You two continued to flirt until the party was over."

Hikaru nodded slightly, "What's our relationship to Germany?"

"Pretty secure, We have a trading system in place and military alliances as well," Simon answered.

Hikaru relaxed his shoulders as he opened the door to the dining hall, seeing his father and younger brother already at the table.

"Glad to see you could finally join us, Hikaru." The King spoke, an amused smile on his face. He turned to his youngest son, sighing slightly, "Put that book away."

Naoki nodded, closing the book in his hands and placing it down on the table. Hikaru sat across from his father, leaning back in his seat.

"Good morning to you too, dad." Hikaru joked, picking up one of his spoons from the table and spinning it in his fingers. He was proud of himself for learning how to do the trick since it looked pretty cool. Simon stood against the door to the right as servants started serving some assorted fruits and sweats to the table. Hikaru took an apple and bit into it, watching the King take some toasted bread and start putting jam onto the toast.

Naoki didn't take anything as he cleared his throat, "Hey father, there is a new movie out in theaters today and I was wondering if I could go see it?" he asked. The King was in the middle of chewing his toast, so it took him a few seconds to swallow it down.

"With what friends?" The King joked, rolling his eyes, "You can go see it."

Naoki nodded, looking away from the King. He thanked a servant as they poured him some water into his glass. Hikaru took his glass after it was filled, taking a sip and still twirling the spoon in his fingers.

"We have some paperwork to do today, Hikaru, and also one meeting that I have to go to, but you don't." The King spoke, making small conversation to him, "Oh, also today the Report magazine came. There is some speculation of when you will have your selection."

Hikaru laughed, "Check that down for never."

The King glared at Hikaru, and he stopped twirling his spoon, "You're going to be King after me, Hikaru. You need a wife to make an heir."

"I don't want to marry, dad. I've got a good life I'm living now. Besides, Kids are annoying and a handful. Naoki could have the heir for all I care. I would rather be the fun uncle than the annoying dad."

The King placed down his toast, still glaring at Hikaru, "This isn't a choice, Hikaru. You have to make the heir, it is your duty as Prince and Future king. Naoki could not have the heir since he was never supposed to be King."

"Harsh," Hikaru muttered, crossing his arms.

"I'm not being harsh, Hikaru. I'm being honest. There is work that only you can accomplish. You will have a Selection and find a Queen. You will have an heir. In fact, we shall announce it in the Report this Friday." The King nodded to himself, making a decision in his head.

Hikaru grimaced to himself. A Selection was one of the worst things he could imagine. Finding a Queen. It all made him irritated. Why couldn't he just live without a wife? Then again, he did need to continue the bloodline his father worked hard to maintain.

Yet, Naoki could still do it. Who was he kidding, he knew in the end that he was going to have a Selection. His father had already decided that, so it seemed.

Hikaru nodded, taking a muffin from the table and unwrapping it. He took a bite into the muffin to keep himself from talking. His father smiled as he got served a plate of bacon and eggs.

Suddenly, Hikaru lost his appetite, and the rest of the meal was spent in silence as only the King enjoyed his meal.
