The Red Witch

Chapter 1: Into the Past

A young figure found herself in an area that had a starry night background and water like floor.

The person sees a mysterious figure in front of her, but she couldn't tell if she was a friend or foe.

"W-who are you?"the girl asked.

"I'm nobody, to Humans, I do not exist. But, I'm visible to those who are able to see me."the mysterious figure answered. "What am I or we are is the collective consciousness of the Universe. I think that falls into your terminology. We intervene in the Evolution of Universe."

"Intervene?"the girl said in surprise. "As in take part in something to prevent or alter a course of events?"

"Yes."the mysterious figure answered. "Is there something you desire to do?"

"I want to go back in time and change things for the better."the girl declared. "I want to save my dad from himself."

"Are you sure this what you want?"the mysterious figure asked. "Once you accept this there is no turning back."

"Yes! This is what I want!"the girl begged desperately. "Please! I have to save my dad! I want to correct his sins! I want to stop the Zero Requiem from ever happening!"

"Very well, Laurel vi Britannia."the mysterious figure declared. "Your wish has been granted. Good luck."

A bright light consumes the young viewer's background and then there was darkness.

Revolutionary Calendar, year 228

August 2017 a.t.b.

A groan escaped a figure's voice as she regained her senses.

The owner of the voice was a fourteen year old girl with black hair tied in twin tails, purple eyes and fair skin. She wore a pink pinafore with a white long sleeved shirt, red tie with Ashford logo, white knee socks and black shoes.

Laurel checked herself and saw she was in one piece.

"That's good."Laurel remarked with a hint of relief. "I still have my school uniform on."

Laurel looked around her surroundings and saw she was standing in a grass field behind Ashford Academy.

"I'm back in school?"Laurel thought in disbelief.

Laurel took a few steps forward and notice the academy looked different somehow causing her to shake her head.

"No. I am in the past."Laurel thought and became troubled. "But where do I start?"

"Don't get cocky because the headmaster of Ashford is taking you under his wing!"A voice scrowled. "I'm the eldest daughter of the Sforza Household!"

Laurel peeked from the wall, seeing a student, Ekaterina Sforza and her two friends that were harassing a girl with long curly sandy brown hair.

A angry look grew on the fourteen year old girl's face at the awful sight as a red geass symbol activated in her left eye.

The next thing that happened, showed Laurel standing behind the abused girl while holding the skirts of the girls that were harassing her.

"Oh dear."Laurel sneered with a mischievous grin. "Didn't your mummies and daddies tell any of you that you can't walk around in your undies?"

Ekaterina and her two friends screamed in terror and ran away, when they realised they weren't wearing their skirts anymore.

"Y-you'll pay for this!"Ekaterina shouted angrily.

"Yeah, yeah."Laurel said and rolled her eyes. "Whatever."

Laurel simply threw the skirts on the floor with a smug look on her face before bringing her attention on the abused girl.

"Are you okay?"Laurel asked.

"Y-Yes, I am."the girl responded gently. "Thank you. What did you do?"

"I sort of humiliated them."Laurel answered with a hint of amusement. "Don't worry. I bet you won't see them again after this."

"I...I can't see anything."the girl admitted.

This caused Laurel's attention.

"What do you mean you can't-"Laurel started.

Laurel glanced at the helpless girl, only for a shocked look to grow on her face when she immediately recognised her.

This crippled and blind girl was her paternal aunt, Nunnally vi Britannia.

The 100th Empress of Britannia.

There was no any doubt about that.

Laurel carefully helped Nunnally up and placed her back in the wheel chair.

"Are you sure your okay?"Laurel asked.

Nunnally nodded with a gentle smile.

"Yes, thank you."Nunnally responded and extended her hand. "My name is Nunnally. Nunnally Lamperouge. What's your name?"

"Laurel."Laurel answered. "Laurel...Starks."

Nunnally and Laurel shook hands with each other.

"It's nice to meet you, Laurel."Nunnally said kindly.

Laurel smiled. "It's nice to meet you too, Nunnally."

Afterwards...

Laurel went to have lunch with Nunnally on the roof of Ashford Academy.

"Thank you again for this morning."Nunnally admitted.

"Hey, no problem."Laurel answered. "I really hate those that rely on their status in society and act arrogant about it."

"So Laurel your new to the school?"Nunnally asked before nibbling on her ham sandwich.

"Yeah."Laurel replied. "This is actually my first time here in school. I'm actually new in Japan since my folks recently moved here."

A surprised look grew on Nunnally's face.

"What?"Laurel asked.

"You just called Area 11, Japan."Nunnally commented.

"Yeah, I mean this country is Japan."Laurel said with a small frown. "Britannia may have invaded this nation, but that doesn't mean the Japanese people should be treated as outcasts. They should be treated as equals like Britannians."

Nunnally nodded as Laurel took a sip from her orange juice.

"Your sound very passionate about this, Laurel."Nunnally admitted.

"I know what's right and what's wrong."Laurel answered firmly and thought. "You were actually the one that taught me about equality in the future, Aunt Nunnally."

"I'm glad that your not like the other britannians, Laurel."Nunnally declared. "I am happy that you've become my new friend."

Laurel smiled back at Nunnally.

"Thanks."Laurel thanked.

This was really weird.

Laurel remembered her aunt was always sitting in the wheel chair because she couldn't walk, but she didn't recall her aunt of being blind in her timeline.

What happened?

Later that day, Laurel brought Nunnally to the residence which was where she and Lelouch lived in.

The black haired girl joined Sayako in making origami and Nunnally had to guess what shapes they were in.

"Well, what shall we do?"Sayako asked softly. "He may be late again, this evening."

"I'll wait."Nunnally assured. "He said that we'd have dinner together tonight."

A small worried look crept on Laurel's face as Sayoko folded the last ends of a pink paper crane.

"There, now."Sayako said. "This one's finished."

Sayako held out the crane to the girl.

Nunnally mumbled a quiet, incoherent word of surprise, reaching out her hands to hold the crane.

"A bird?"Nunnally asked curiously.

Sayoko nodded. "Yes. It's a crane."

"Amazing!"Nunnally remarked happily. "The Japanese are so skilfully."

Laurel finished folding a small bright blue paper into a small cat.

"Guess what mine is, Nunnally."Laurel insisted as she held out her origami cat.

Nunnally placed her hands on the small origami cat and gasped.

"Is it a cat?"Nunnally asked.

"Yep."Laurel chuckled. "You got that right."

"Where did you learn to do that, Miss Starks?"Sayoko asked.

"A very important friend of mine."Laurel answered.

Suddenly, Nunnally turned her face to stare at the door.

"Lady Nunnally?"Sayoko asked.

Laurel froze as the door slid open and Lelouch walked through the doorway.

"I'm sorry."Lelouch apologised as he came in. "I'm so late."

"Hi, Lelouch."Nunnally greeted cheerfully. "Welcome home."

Laurel looked at Lelouch quietly.

Lelouch was a handsome young man with black hair and the same violet eyes like she had. He wore a red jacket with a black shirt underneath and grey trousers.

"Hi, Dad..."Laurel thought with a hint of sadness.

"Yes, welcome home, my lord."Sayoko replied.

"No place like it, Sayoko."Lelouch answered. "Right, Nunnally?"

Nunnally nodded as Lelouch notice Laurel sitting on the right side of his little sister.

"H-Hi."Laurel greeted with a wave.

"And you are?"Lelouch asked.

"This is my new friend, Laurel Starks."Nunnally introduced. "She stopped a bunch of girls from bullying me today."

"Really?"Lelouch asked. "Thank you for saving my sister."

"Your welcome."Laurel answered with a grateful smile and thought. "I hope he is not getting suspicious about me or my appearance. Otherwise, I am in big trouble."

Then Lelouch prepared two meals for his sister and her new friend.

Laurel chewed on her steak as Lelouch cuts his sister's steak.

"Miss Sayoko and Laurel was just teaching me about the art of the origami."Nunnally explained. "Fold a piece of paper the correct way, you can make birds, boats, almost anything."

Nunnally takes a sip of her soup that was a bit too fast that some of the soup came down from her mouth causing Lelouch to take a napkin to wipe her mouth.

"Easy there."Lelouch instructed. "You don't have to tell me everything all at once, you know? It's not like I'm going anywhere."

"Yeah, you're right."Nunnally giggled. "Thank you."

Lelouch smiled. "You're very welcome."

Laurel's expression darkened at Lelouch's previous statement as she munched on her lunch.

"You two are just brothers and sisters."Laurel thought with a bitter tone. "I blame Suzaku and Schneizel for coming between the two of you."

Laurel snapped out of her thoughts when Nunnally spoke up.

"I'm so happy, 'cause last night you scared me a little."Nunnally admitted.

"Did I? Sorry."Lelouch responded. "I just have a lot on my mind, is all."

"Hey, they say, if you fold a thousand of these cranes, your wish'll come true."Nunnally admitted. "So if there's anything at all that you've been wishing for?"

"No, not really."Lelouch replied. "What about you? Do you wish for anything?"

"I wish the world was a gentler place."Nunnally answered.

"When the day finally comes that you can see again, I'm sure that it will be."Lelouch declared.

"Really?"Nunnally asked with a smile.

"I promise."Lelouch vowed.

Laurel looked away as a little tear fell down her face.

"You completed that promise after you sacrificed yourself to the world, only to have all the evil deeds blamed on you."Laurel thought with a frown. "Don't worry, dad. I'll make sure that will never happen again."

"What do you wish for, Laurel?"Nunnally asked.

"Huh?"Laurel said and looked at Nunnally. "I just wish to spend more time with my father and mother. I...don't see them most of the times."

"Oh..."Nunnally said and smiled gently. "I'm sure they will be able to have time for you."

Laurel smiled at Nunnally before looking at Lelouch.

"Sayoko taught me this the other day. It's called a Japanese promise."Nunnally admitted before she started to shake her hand while singing. "Cross my heart, hope to die, eat a thousand needles, if I lie. Pinky promise song."

Nunnally lets go of her pinky and giggled.

Lelouch looked at his pinky for a brief moment before he playfully sighed.

"Well that's scary."Lelouch joked. "I may have to eat a thousand needles someday."

"That's right."Nunnally answered. "So I'd better not catch you telling lies, okay?"

"Don't you worry."Lelouch assured. "I'll never lie, I swear. Not to you anyway."

A sad frown grew on Laurel's face as she drank her cup of water.

"You will lie to everyone even Nunnally, Lelouch."Laurel thought in disproval. "I guess I have to do that too, if I am going to stay here."

Then Laurel brought her attention to Lelouch and Nunnally.

"Hey, Lelouch? Nunnally?"Laurel asked. "My parents are out of town, so is it alright if I stay with you guys for a while? I promise I won't be any trouble."

"Well-"Lelouch started.

"Of course, you can, Laurel. It will be like having a sleepover."Nunnally remarked excitedly and looked at Lelouch. "Please, Lelouch? Can Laurel stay with us?"

Lelouch thought for a moment and then sighed.

"Fine."Lelouch said in defeat. "She can stay."

"Yay."Nunnally cheered softly.

Laurel gives Lelouch a grateful smile.

The future Princess of Britannia has found shelter for her own safety in the past which meant now she can focus on what to do next tomorrow.

Next chapter will be Laurel telling Lelouch that she knows about Geass and also meeting the Student Council of Ashford Academy including her future mum...
