(A/N) Yes I'm back again for another Chapter fanfic after I swore I wouldn't do one again for a long time!
I just couldn't get rid of this idea swirling inside my head when I watched the movie 'Something Borrowed!' Everything about it reminded me so much of Marinette and Adrien so I decided to turn it into my own version.
At least this time I'll be one step ahead and have a chapter ready before posting another one. I think that's where I failed last time.
On a side note, this will mention sexual themes but not go into details, it also has some swearing in it. If I ever go into details I'll warn but I doubt it lol
Enjoy!
Shoes clattered unevenly along the sidewalk as Marinette placed on her second heel, Fumbling with the placement of her shoe. She stumbled to the side, catching herself before she fell into the gutter.
Sure shoes weren't going to change the fact she was still in her work clothes from this morning, bun also still high in her hair and threatening to fall out at any given moment. but with Marinette's schedule and an akuma attack that happen earlier that day, she didn't have time to change.
Alya would have to just put up with what she was wearing now.
"Happy Birthday to me." Marinette muttered in a sarcastic tone. She was too tired to even think about making birthday plans.
It was Alya's great idea to take her out for her birthday. This all just seemed like too much of an effort for her, she was exhausted and neck deep in work already.
Even the work she accepted on the side to pay for her one bedroom flat was getting too much for her to keep up with.
How else was she meant to pay the bills though?
If only she could lucky charm an apartment key or maybe even an endless supply of money than life would be much simpler.
No, she couldn't do that to Tikki. Her powers were meant for the greater good, not to seek out her own benefits and live comfortably.
Even if it did sound good in her head.
The booming sound of the music could be heard from across the street and Marinette stopped and groaned in annoyance from how loud this was going to be.
"Everything is fine, quick in and out won't hurt." She mumbled to herself.
"You need a night out Marinette, a break from everything." Tikki peeped from inside her purse, letting her chosen know she was intently listening to her. "It's your birthday, enjoy it."
"I already know what she has planned Tikki." Marinette huffed, gesturing across the street. "No surprise birthday has gone past me."
"Then act surprise. It wont hurt." Tikki pleaded, already knowing from Plagg that she had planned a massive surprise birthday.
Marinette huffed, not bothering to argue with her kwami. If staying a few short hours would make them both happy then she would do it.
"Okay, fine." Marinette grumbled, moving her feet and heading across the road towards the bar. "An hour and then we are out!"
Getting closer, Marinette notice the music cut out and everything around her going quiet. Only the cars driving past made any sound at all.
Making it to the front doorway the bouncer stepped in front of her before she could enter. "Excuse me miss, this is a private event."
Private? Alya had to make this private? How many people were going to this event?
"Oh ummm... they're kinda expecting me." The bluenette squeaked, pointing inside.
The bouncer did a double take on her before grunting and moving to the side to let her in. Even he wasn't sure if it was the girl Alya had described to him was the real one, since she looked too professional for his liking.
Marinette took a hesitant step towards the door, her fingertips lingering on the handle longer then they should've been.
"This is fine, act surprise, just act surprise." The bluenette shook off her serious face and replaced it with a fake smile. "No wait, they can't know, I know." Her face expression changed back to serious.
The bouncer behind her turned to look at her strangely but Marinette just gave him a sheepish smile in return and pushed the door open.
Lights were flashing through the window just moments ago but now darkness surrounded her as she took another step in.
Chat noir's eye sight would of helped right about now. Marinette groaned to herself, fumbling around in the darken room.
She was waiting for that surprise yell to happen, for her friends to pop up and turn on the lights again so she didn't look like a fool walking blindly in the dark.
But nope.
Marinette's foot hooked onto a nearby table, or was it a chair? She didn't really have time to find out. Her body moved forward and stumbled into an unknown area, holding out her arms in front of her in case she hit something during her fall.
She knew she should of kept her flats on for this.
"Ahhh!" Marinette screamed right before she had hit the ground in a thud and the lights turned on quickly.
"Surprise!" People yelled out around her but their excitement was short lived when they notice the birthday girl was lying face down on the floor.
Mumbles sounded around the bluenette before Alya's booming voice made it through the crowd. "You always know how to make an entrance, don't you Marinette." Alya picked up the girl from the floor. "Were you surprised? The reporter squeaked in excitement, the smell of alcohol was just noticeable on her breath.
"Surprised." Marinette's voice went high pitched. "More then surprised." She tried in her best possible lying voice, focusing more on the crowd of people around her then her friend.
The crowd cheered and went off to what they were doing moments ago. Marinette looked back at her friend that had now grabbed her shoulders really tightly and notice she was now doing a double take on her outfit.
"Alya, I had no time, I..." Marinette started to explain but a hand came up near her face.
"Good thing I know you too well." Her friend smirked at her and wrapped her arm around hers, dragging her towards the bathrooms. "I already got you covered." She paused just before the toilets and handed Marinette a medium white bag with the words Bourgeois on the front. "Your welcome." She said without any word from Marinette.
The bluenette's eyes went wide at the gift, knowing very well she had spoken about this design of dress for a month now but could never afford it. "Alya! This is too much."
Too much was an understatement.
"Nonsense Marinette. You are my best friend, you deserve to be spoilt." Alya smiled at her and she gave a teary one back. "Besides Adrien helped me get your size, but don't tell him I told you." Alya held a single finger to her lips in a shushing motion and winked.
Marinette gasped at the mention of the blonde's name. "He's here?" She questioned quietly, Alya smiled and nodded.
"Now go get dressed before you make dress pants an actual style for clubbing." Alya pushed her friend towards the bathroom door, shutting it behind her before she could turn back.
"Hes here Tikki! Adrien is back in Paris." Marinette had said for the tenth time to her kwami, feeling like each time was less real then the next.
"I know Marinette, you have already told me." Tikki sighed from the bench near the sink.
"I can't believe It." She spoke with Bobby pins in her mouth while she pulled out her bun. "Its been..." Marinette paused, thinking for a moment the last time she saw the blonde after they graduated from school. "A few years, I guess?"
Tikki really wanted to tell her she had just saw the man a few hours earlier but that would of required secrets to come out in the open.
Adrien might had left for Milan but Chat Noir was able to make every fight by transforming into astrocat. It really helped keeping his secret from everyone else and no one being suspicious about who he really was.
Besides Hawkmoth wasn't that active anymore so it gave them both some down time.
"Adrien Agreste." The bluenette whispered to the mirror in front of her, fogging it up with the love felt sigh that came after.
The last pin was pulled from her bun and Marinette watched as her hair flowed down towards her shoulders, only touching it up with a brush to make it look more presentable.
A small knock sounded at the door. "Yes!" Marinette yelled, knowing full well that the music blearing on the other side wouldn't allow them to hear much.
The door creaked open partly with a smug looking Alya on the other side. "Are you coming or you going to waste your whole birthday in a bathroom?"
Well it wasn't the first time she had. Thinking back to all her birthday Ladybug moments from years ago.
"I'm coming, don't sweat." Marinette grabbed her purse and birthday bag and headed for the door, knowing full well Tikki had retreated when Alya had knocked earlier.
The music was loud but not as loud as Marinette was expecting, but it was a decent mix of music that was playing through the room.
Drinks and nibbles were being served on the tables around them and the bluenette couldn't help but swipe some treats in her bag on the way past for her little friend who would now be stuck in her purse all night.
"You know they aren't going anywhere." Alya startled the bluenette, making her jump slightly from being caught.
Marinette turned and faced her friend, her cheeks lightly pink dusted with embarrassment. "Oh, umm... yeah I know. I just like being prepare... umm... that's all."
Alya didn't say a word back, instead she just shoved a drink into the girls hands. "Here this will help with the nerves."
"I don't think I'm going to drink tonight Alya, I have so much work to do tomorrow and..."
Alya placed a single finger near her lips, making Marinette go quiet and stund. "One drink never hurt anyone." She stated. "Besides, it might take the edge off your up tight attitude."
"Hey I'm not up tight!" Marinette hissed. "I'm just... very busy."
"Yeah I know all about it girl and this drink will help ease the pressure off your busy schedule." Alya tilted the drink up so Marinette at least take a sip in her presence and almost choked on it.
"Wow! What did you even put in this?" The bluenette splattered uncomfortably. Trying to figure out if there was any contents mixed with the alcohol or if it was just by itself.
"Oh you know, just vodka." Alya laughed, holding up her own little bottle that contained more of the liquid inside and shaking it around with glee. "That should knock some party life into you!"
"You don't say." Marinette was still recovering from the drink, her eyes beginning to tear up with how potent it was.
"I'll go get us another one." Alya dipped around her and headed to the bar, completely ignoring her best friends requests not to bother.
"Great." The bluenette groaned. "Just fucking great."
"You know I never took you for a foul mouth type of girl." A familiar voice was as sweet as a melody behind her, turning his way to confirm the tone it belonged to.
"Luka!" Marinette gasped, a bit shocked at first that he was here.
"Happy Birthday." He said sweetly, embracing her with a tight hug which Marinette gladly returned the gesture.
"What are you... when did you..." She was lost for words, knowing Luka had been on tour with Jaggered Stone as his new guitarist.
"I actually flew in this morning." The hug was finally spilt, looking at the bluenette over like it was the first time he's seen her. "Would of told you sooner but I was sworn to secrecy." He laughed, putting a single finger on his lips as he looked over at Alya by the bar.
Marinette groaned and followed his line of sight towards her friend as well. "Alya! Of course she did." The girl grumbled the last part with clenched teeth.
She just wanted to bury her friend alive with all the surprises she was getting tonight. Marinette liked surprises but this was getting out of hand.
"So how have you been? World famous designer yet?" Luka asked curiously, spinning the bluenette on the spot to get a good look at her party dress.
Marinette laughed, almost snorted at the comment. "No." She stated quickly. "I work at a little clothing store on the corner, I only sometimes design clothes when I get requests."
Or when Chloe breathes down her neck. She reminded herself.
"Well you have to start somewhere, I bet you would become famous before you even know it." He said with such adoration. "With the designs you made when I was in Kitty Section, I'm surprised no one has snatched you up yet!" He added, making Marinette blush.
"Thank you Luka." She said quietly, just enough that he heard her over the beaming music.
"Looks like my drink worked." Alya loudly came in between the two of them, drinks in her hands. "Already hitting it off with old flames without any stuttering."
Alya drunk was just another thing.
Marinette let out a strange squeak noise, looking over to Luka who just thought her friend was being funny and laughing along with her.
"Alya!" She scold.
The reporter glanced her way, looking a bit more unstable then what she was only a few moments ago. Her legs wobbly and her body slumped slightly.
The reporter laughed, shoving another drink in Marinette's hand. "Lighten up girl. It's just a joke."
One that Marinette didn't find funny at all.
"Sorry Luka." Marinette said embarrassed, glaring over at Alya with daggers in her eyes. "She doesn't understand when to shut her mouth!" Seethed Marinette.
"It's okay." Luka said, not minding at all. "I have to go and find Juleka anyways. Too busy at Rose's house to notice her big brother came to visit." A bit of silence fell on the three of them before Luka turned to Marinette and spoke again. "Oh, before I forget." He grabbed Marinette's wrist and written down his new number on the palm of her hand. "Whenever your free give me a call. I still have a birthday present to give you."
Luka gave her a wink and disappeared into the crowd of people, some familar and some not.
"You two are so going to bang one day." Alya voiced, dragging Marinette's line of vision away from her ex partner to her annoying best friend.
"First of all Alya! We don't call it 'Bang'! It's making love and second, we have already been there and done that and it didn't work out." Marinette put her point across as she sipped on her drink.
Her eyes immediently squinted by the amount of alcohol that was in it and put the glass down on the table before she subsequently did it again.
"What didn't work out?" Another famiilar voice ask behind her, making Marinette jump and squeak.
She turned the way the voice was coming from, noticing Alya's smug look before she fully face the man in question.
There Adrien Agreste stood as handsome as ever, Marinette could seriously turn around and smack her friend one because if she knew Adrien was going to look this good she would of not invited him.
His looks alone were the death of her and his voice, oh, that just made her die a second time and go straight to heaven.
"Happy Birthday Marinette." Adrien's sweet voice pulled her back into reality, focusing back on his green emerald eyes.
Yep, she had defiantly died.
"Marinette?" Adrien asked after a few moments of silence. Noticing the bluenette's mouth was opening and closing but not speaking a word back.
Alya came up behind her friend laughing. "She says thank you Adrien." Alya started for her friend before she tried to whisper. "Think my drink mix has gotten to her head."
Marinette shook her head and glared at her friend. Another set of daggers being pointed her way.
"What?" She laughed. Although Alya knew why the girl had stopped speaking all together. "I'll leave you two alone." Alya whispered to Adrien again before disappearing.
The blonde laughed, watching his friend sway uneasy through the crowd of people and disappear from veiw.
"Shes a very confident, funny drunk isn't she?" Adrien said, drawing Marinette's attention back to him.
"She sure is." Marinette laughed.
Too confident for her own good. She thought in her head.
"So... you look good by the way." The blonde quipped, getting a light blush in return. "The dress fits you perfectly. I was afraid I got the wrong size."
The bluenette looked down at her dress and pattered down the fabric close to her skin out of habit, making sure the dress went over her curves the right way.
"Its the perfect size." She beamed. "Thank you so much! You didn't have to get me anything."
Adrien shook his head. "I wanted to. You always making other people look good, why can't you have the same treatment?"
With the wink he sent her way, Marinette had clued on that Chloe must of been spreading the word about her designs. Maybe the blonde wasn't as bad as she was after all.
"I enjoy doing it so it's no big deal." She smiled at him and he return the gesture. Silence fell over the two for a bit before Marinette spoke up out of the blue. "What are you doing back in Paris? I heard you were now modelling in Milan and getting Married I might add."
"Yeah, Adrien rubbed the back of his nape and his smile dropped slightly. "Well I couldn't miss out on my friends birthday." He said and Marinette's heart plummeted at the familiar word. "I also had some business to take care of here in Paris since my father has been unwell."
"Oh I'm so sorry. Is he doing okay?" She asked, worriedly.
"Yeah, just a bit under the weather that's all." He explained. "Nathalie is more worried then he is but I hope its nothing serious."
"I would be too." Marinette sighed, feeling helpless she couldn't do more for him. "Well I hope he pulls through." She smiled his way and placed a reasurring hand on his shoulder.
"Me too."
Adrien's eyes soften and Marinette almost fell into that deep gaze until she notice she was still touching his shoulder and squeaked.
She pulled her hand away quickly and jumped back slightly out of habit, feeling like an idiot for touching the man for longer than necessary.
Their conversation got interrupted by a loud tapping noise from the microphone, followed by a booming drunk voice that dragged their eyes away from each other and now at the booze filled Alya that was up on stage.
"Ladies and Gents." She started with a dramatic entry. "And the birthday girl of course." The reporter pointed her way.
The crowd that went silent, began to fill up the room with laughter. Marinette just face palmed and shook her head cause she knew where this was going.
"Come up here girl!" Alya ushered her friend to join her and a bright light moved overtop of the bluenette.
Adrien had stepped back to give Marinette the spotlight, but the bluenette looked at him for help instead.
"Come on everyone give her some encouragement!" Alya shouted.
The crowd followed with the booming claps and Marinette groaned, hiding her face with her hands in embarrassment. She knew if she didn't go now Alya would bug her again and again until she gave in, it was better to get it over and done with.
Finally pulling her hands away from her face she gave in and made her way through the crowd, getting lifted on the stage by Kim and Ivan.
Marinette subsequently grabbed the bottom of her dress to make sure it didn't ride up while she was being carried onto the stage. She didn't need another embarrassing moment like the one she had when she made her way into the club.
That would of been a disaster of a night.
Alya grabbed her friend once she was on soild ground and dragged her to the middle, passing her the liquor bottle she was carrying around.
"Here drink this." She yelled into the microphone without thinking and the crowd laughed. "It will help with those nerves and maybe your clumsiness."
"You sure about that Alya?" Alix screamed out, making the crowd murmer in agreement.
The reporter put her finger up to her lips and winked. "Shh... You all know who it's really for."
The crowd laughed again.
"I doubt it would help with that either." Kim shouted.
Marinette just groaned at the embarrassment that was her night but lucky for her the boys in question were laughing along as well.
"Okay, okay, we are not rubbing in her single life tonight." Alya started and Marinette sighed in relief. "But any single boys out there looking for a flexible hot date, come see me after the show." She quickly said and the crowd erupted into laughter once again.
"Alya!" Marinette squeaked, trying to hide her embarrassment.
It was one thing trying to set her up but putting in a hint about her secret identity well she was regretting her decision on ever telling the ladyblogger she was ladybug.
"I'm sorry girl." The reporter mouth and Marinette was relieved she was finally learning to not say things into the microphone. "Okay, enough about Marinette's lonely, single life." She dramatically put it. "This is a night worth celebrating!"
The crowd cheered and music began playing through the speakers again but this time at a more quieter pace so Alya's voice could still be heard.
Although with how loud her voice normally was, Marinette was surprised the whole of Paris hadn't already heard her announcements.
Turning towards the birthday girl, Alya sighed in all seriousness. "I can't believe we got here." She began, another dramatic start. "Over ten years of being your best friend and soon to be maid of honour." Marinette blushed, looking down towards the ground. "You have always been a good friend to me and supported me when I've dragged you around Paris just to get the best pictures of Ladybug and Chat Noir. Although you do seem to disappear." Alya laughed and Marinette shrunk into herself. "Don't worry girl, I don't blame you! I know how jumpy you get with akuma's." She reassured with a wink.
"And with someone else we know." Kim shouted out again making Alya turn and smirk in his direction with a small shush.
"Again Kim, that speech will be saved for her 30th birthday, when she's still single with a dozen cats." Alya pointed towards the boy in warning.
Marinette just shook her head and kept quiet.
Casting an arm around her friends neck, Alya continued with her speech. "Dont worry girl, look on the bright side, you're only halfway to 50."
Nice way to remind her.
"Anyway... I think we can all agree that your our everyday superhero, with how many times you helped us through school and gone out of your way to make sure I have the best wedding ever. We are all lucky to have you in our lives." The blogger was almost in tears. "Happy 25th baby girl."
The reporter turned to her friend and gave her a big hug and the crowd went wild with cheers. Nino began to crank up the music louder so the party could commence.
But before that could happen, Alya had one last thing to say. "Can I get the cake out now!" She demanded to the people behind the bar.
A pink cake with macaroons came through the crowd and everyone around her began to sing happy birthday with Alya's voice being the loudest since she had the microphone still up to her lips.
Even if her friend was a full on drunk, she still knew how to make Marinette happy and that's all that really counted.
Blowing out the candles the crowd erupted into a cheer and slices of cake began to make its way through the loads of people. Marinette was lucky Luka was standing beside her when she had cut the cake or she would of had to doudge her friend for the rest of the night.
With a light peck to his cheek Alya screeched at the bluenette. "You call that a kiss?"
Marinette laughed. "It still counts."
Her friend rolled her eyes, she was too drunk to argue with the bluenette so she left it with a wave and made her way back to her boyfriend who was diving into his own slice of cake.
"You right there?" Alya laughed.
"Its soooo good." Nino drooled.
All they could do was laugh at the boy that manage to plaster more of the cake on his face then in his mouth.
