Hey, everyone! This is my very first foray into poetry on fanfiction. I'm not sure if it'll be very good but I'm hoping it is. Also, this is my first time writing for the Stark Trek Deep Space 9 fandom. Word count is 642. I hope you all enjoy I am Tosk.
I am Tosk.
Born and bred to die with honor.
No other purpose do I have.
My hunt begun
I flee and wonder what would life be like:
If I were to be a human who fears not the jaws of death.
I could be a creature of any color if that was my lot.
I could live and find a partner
Perhaps have some little Tosks.
But that is not my lot in life.
I am Tosk.
Perhaps if I had been Vulcan
I wouldn't care at all.
I would think on my death logically
And not shed tears at all.
I'd look at my life through a cold dark lens
And never show emotions.
But that is not my lot in life for
I am Tosk.
Perhaps if I had been a proud Klingon warrior
I wouldn't fear as cold death drew near
And would try and fight to and overcome it.
But that is not my lot in life.
It is a simple declaration.
I am Tosk.
And Tosk knows his final destination.
In my spaceship, I do travel in the cold dark void.
The laser beams of the hunters I am trying to avoid.
An opening led to my freedom I guess
But it wouldn't last forever.
I am Tosk.
Tosk is bred to live and die for sport.
Tosk must not try and fight
But remember his lot.
But then a hailing call comes through
A thing of great surprise.
These people want to help poor Tosk.
I can't help but wonder why.
Don't they know that Tosk is bred to live and die like that?
I am taken aboard their ship.
A strange vessel indeed.
A thing that Tosk has never seen.
An interesting thing indeed.
Oh Brien stands before me now
Saying he'd look at my ship.
He doesn't understand me.
Not even one little bit.
I am Tosk.
I simply say.
Both name and being alike.
Born to fight and flee and die.
Not to live on for life.
I'm given a room and shown respect
A thing I never knew.
Tosk doesn't get respect in life.
Never did and never will.
Oh Brien leaves me quite alone.
I think of things I'll need
Once my ship is fixed I'll need to leave with much speed.
I talk to the computer.
The weapons I implore.
At least give me a chance to defend myself.
It's what Tosk is trained for.
I am Tosk.
I say to them again and again and again.
Don't they understand that I can't say more than that?
I am Tosk
To live and die with honor.
But they will not let death come
And garner me dishonor.
I must die with honor is what I plead.
Hoping Oh Brien would heed
My words of longing and let me go
My death and pride to follow.
I am Tosk.
I am crawling free in the duct work of this ship.
Oh Brien took heed
And performed the deed
That would see me freed at last.
We duck through ductworks
And crawl through them all.
We joke and we talk
And it makes me want to stall.
Tosk has never had a friend to look out for his needs.
Tosk must not allow himself to listen to his greed.
"Oh Brien, die with honor," I say to my only friend.
"Tosk die with honor," is what he said.
I pull away from the spaceship
I don't look back to see
Oh Brien watching sadly as I go ahead and flee.
I am Tosk.
I live and die alone.
It is what I am born and bred for
It is the only lot I've known.
On my grave when I am caught and killed.
I know what it will say.
The epitaph of every Tosk
I am Tosk
And that is that.
I hope you all enjoyed I am Tosk as much as I enjoyed writing it.
