The Resistance: Avalon Net Gameplay
I, Mark Briggs known as Meymage, play The Resistance: Avalon online on 4/20/2020 with seven players total in the game.
Introduction:
The Resistance: Avalon pits the forces of Good and Evil in a battle to control the future of civilization. Arthur represents the future of Britain, a promise of prosperity and honor, yet among his brave warriors are Mordred's unscrupulous minions. These few evil minions that know each other are hidden except from one of Arthur's servants. Merlin alone knows these agents of evil, he must speak of this only in riddles, because if his true identity is discovered all will be lost.
During the game players set up missions for their team. In this seven player game we have three Spies and four Resistance members. The first mission has exactly two players. Missions two and three has exactly three players. Mission four has exactly four players with two failures required from the spies for it to fail. Mission five has exactly four players only requiring one failure.
The fifth mission requires all four Resistance members on it to win. Again, one Spy on a mission is enough to fail it except for mission four. The Resistance also loses if Merlin is discovered among the Resistance team. The Spies are initially unaware of any roles of the Resistance. We Spies are myself the Assassin, a regular Spy, and Morgana. When the Resistance passes three missions I select one of their members to kill. If it's Merlin we win instead.
Morgana appears as Merlin to Percival. Merlin and Percival are Resistance. Merlin knows the three spies while everyone else has no initial idea of anyone. They are known as regular Resistance members trying to deduce the situations. At this time the game can play five to ten players with a variety of roles.
Gameplay:
The game consists of twenty five total proposals at most. Every fifth proposed team is known as the hammer. The hammer must be approved by a majority otherwise the Resistance automatically loses the game. When the hammer is a Spy it must be approved. If the Spies have 5.4 and 5.5 with the proposal getting to 5.4 it means the Spies will most likely be victorious. All comments are publicly stated. Now we begin the game.
Team Proposal Missions 1.1 - 1.5
1.1: The first pick belongs to xanderhawk the regular Spy. Xanderhawk off picks one Resistance and one Spy. By not adding himself, xanderhawk is trying to tell the table there's one res/one spy in that team from rejecting it. Everyone else rejects it except the two players picked. The Spy rejected on mission. Merlin sees it all.
1.2: The next pick belongs to Armthur a Resistance member. Armthur offpicks another Resistance member and myself the Assassin. It's a correct pick being rejected from the table besides the two of us on the mission. It's informing the table two players are on different teams.
1.3: The next pick belongs to the Resistance member Rio. That player off picks correctly xanderhawk and another Resistance member. Like the last pick it's revealing information to the table that these two players are on different teams. The table rejects the mission with the two players on it approving it. A mission passes only by majority vote.
1.4: The next pick belongs to my Spy mate Wynn picking self and me. This hard pick is trying to say we're Resistance without giving the table any real information. We on the mission approve the team though everyone else rejects it.
1.5: I, Meymage, have the hammer. I pick myself with another Resistance member two seats ahead with no hammer and influence. The mission is approved by everyone. I fail the mission framing the Resistance member. I hope it's Merlin I framed. My Spy mates know I failed it for sure. This can make things difficult for the Resistance while letting my team know I am probably not Morgana.
Team Proposal Missions 2.1-2.5
2.1: In the interest of time I will write what happens quickly about them. This is a Resistance member called Sb picking a clean one. It's approved only by the three players on it. It gets rejected four to three players.
2.2: The Resistance member called Biew I frame picks clean as well. This team is rejected four to three like the previous one.
2.3: My Spy mate again picks self and two other Resistance members. This team is also rejected on a four to three vote.
2.4: This Resistance member copies the 2.1 proposal. It is again turned down on a four to three vote basis. It goes to hammer.
2.5: Rio has the hammer. This time this player picks my Spy mate that picked me, the 2.4 Resistance member, then self. It fails giving my team the Spies a score of two failed missions. One more failed mission for us to win the game.
Team Proposal Missions: 3.1-3.5
3.1: In critical my Spy mate picked the other Spy, a Resistance member, and self. The other Spy mate on rejects the team while the two others approve. Not much discussion happens until now. We say 3.1 can be rejected moving on.
3.2: My pick. I'm asked by a Resistance member to pick a team. I pick my Spy mate, the 1.2 Resistance member, and myself. The team gets three approvals by us. Claims are made we are the three spies of them game for almost approving a team in critical.
3.3: This Resistance member takes their time to find a team since the next two players might be spies. From this players point of view it's unknown unless this player is Merlin. Needless to say this person is clueless picking my other two Spy mates and self. The mission it turned down with the 1.1 Spy and team leader approving it.
3.4: Their last chance. This is the player I framed in 1.5. A heated discussion occurs about the table. This player has deduced enough to know two spies. This person is a great Merlin candidate. After more discussion this player picks Wynn. I say gg meaning good game. The mission gets approved with five votes. The game ends with the Spies winning the tougher way by missions.
Afterward:
We all scold rio as Merlin now. Merlin is the 1.3 Resistance member and 2.5 hammer. Merlin picks Morgana for 2.5 confusing Percival. His team picked clean on the mission two proposals. No one else appeared to do anything wrong. We spies win without having to find Merlin. I'm unsure of Merlin's identity the whole time. That's a wrap.
Name and Roles:
1.1: Xanderhawk (Regular Spy)
1.2: Armthur (Regular Resistance)
1.3: Rio (Resistance Merlin)
1.4: Wynn (Morgana Spy)
1.5: Yours truly-Meymage (Assassin Spy)
2.1: Sb (Resistance Percival)
2.2: Biew (Regular Resistance)
Played on 4/20/2020.
