Initiating Rayshift countdown.

Prologue:

A warm, gentle breeze.

The bright blue sky with fluffy clouds floating overhead.

And the small, bustling village with a fantastic view of the Titan's majestic head.

Torigoth was truly a peaceful looking town at a first glance. It was perfectly placed on the Gormott Titan with plentiful forests, more wildlife than one could count, and a thriving community. Aside from a rather notable Titan Battleship and a few other minor nitpicks, Torigoth was a comfy place to take the weight off and relax.

Pyra only wished the circumstances were a bit better for Rex and her at the time.

Sitting near a small tree fairly close to the marketplace, the young woman leaned back and gazed up at the clouds. They had arrived on the Titan by unconventional means but Torigoth had been a sight for sore eyes after wading through the flourishing landscape of the Titan. It had been the first piece of civilization Pyra had seen in so long and it looked so charming when they first arrived.

Sure, Nia had her little fit when she saw that wanted poster but it wasn't that bad honestly. Though she didn't have to tear it apart piece by piece, that may have been overdoing it a bit.

But all things must come to an end, or at least they tended to when Pyra was involved.

Which is how the Blade and her Driver had ended up such a dire situation.

Pyra had disguised herself with a fairly quaint looking hoodie while her Driver, Rex, was helping a little Nopon named Tora assemble an artificial blade to assist them in saving Nia. The poor girl had been captured barely a day ago and already there were whispers around the village about her being executed.

Rex refused to allow that to happen and neither would Pyra. They just needed more help before rescuing the Gormotti driver and her Blade. Thankfully, that's where Tora came into the picture.

The Little Nopon had whisked the pair away after Nia had been captured and eagerly wanted. All they needed to do was assist him in a family project.

That was where the group were now, Pyra hiding low due to her identity while Rex helped Tora gather the last parts necessary for his project. She wished to do more to help but Rex, the optimistic yet stubborn boy that he was, refused her boon when offered. He would pay for the parts himself and Tora would make sure they were the correct ones.

"And you're certain this is the right one?" Rex asked, pointing the Nopon to the part in question, "It ain't cheap, gonna be a problem if we get the wrong one. And they don't have an airtight return policy."

Tora nodded excitedly, "Yes yes! Tora sure! Rex-Rex has the right one! Just need one more and we have parts needed!"

"Alright, alright. Just checkin."

Pyra smiled at the duo. They had been at it for quite some time but were nearly done with Tora's shopping list. She just wished there was something else she could do besides sit and wait in her hoodie. But things couldn't be helped. Nia wasn't the only one the authorities had been looking for. She might have had a wanted poster but Pyra didn't even need one.

One look at her core crystal would rat her out in a second.

She was the Aegis, the Legendary Blade from the Legendary War of five hundred years ago.

It was what she was. Her title, her designation, her purpose, and something she would do away with if given the chance. Everyone knew of the tales regarding this Legendary Blade and now that news of her return had emerged, this little run in with the authorities wouldn't be the last. Pyra was just thankful that Tora had something on hand for her to wear or else she'd be stuck waiting in the Nopon's house until time came to make their move.

Better than nothing she supposed, but just sitting around made Pyra feel particularly useless. If only there was something else she could do, if just to help a little…

"Fou?"

A small, curious yip suddenly skipped past Pyra's ears, snapping her out of her worries for a moment.

She glanced up and looked around. Had she been so buried in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed someone approach? Yet there was no one there. Several people were walking amongst the marketplace but none paid any particular attention to her. Pyra looked left and right but found nothing, no one. She was alone. Rex and Tora were off shopping still.

Then if that was the case however, who made that noise? Maybe some passing bird or-

"Fou! Fou!"

More curious yips met with Pyra's ears and finally, she looked down.

"Oh my-!"

There wasn't hide nor hair of a person at all. Instead, there was a small white creature sitting right in front of Pyra. It was quite tiny, incredibly fluffy, and easily able to fit in the palm of her hands. Its fur was a pure white except for a light shade of blue on the tip's of its ears. To top it off, the tiny critter also wore a white and blue cloak on its back that was tied together with a pink band of thread.

Last but not least was the eyes. Two little orbs of velvet blue stared up curiously at Pyra with a little twitch of its ears.

Was it some kind of dog? But it was small, a cat then? It didn't look like any cat Pyra had ever seen. Though then again, when had she seen a cat herself?

The closest she could recall was Dromarch but he was Blade, not a cat. Either way it was tiny, very fluffy, had a big poofy tail, and it was looking right at her.

"Why hello there!" she greeted, putting on a big smile. She leaned down toward the small critter and gently waved at it, "What are you doing here little guy? Are you lost?"

A bouncing nod from the little critter's head answered her question. This fluffy little creature then surprised Pyra and hopped right into her lap. With a swish of its tail, it jumped from the ground to her lap with a nimble little jump. As the furry turned in place and took a seat, Pyra could help but gawk. The Blade might have found this all precious if she wasn't being used as a cushion!

"Hey now-!" Pyra yelped, "That's a little rude, don't you think?"

Again, the fluffy animal met her gaze and bouncily nodded, "Fou-fo-Fou!"

"Hehe, alright. Just so we're clear." Pyra giggled. Irritated as she was, one look at the creature made it hard to stay angry. It was basically a small ball of fuzz, just in a cloak.

Shaking her head, Pyra reached down and scratched the fluffy creature beneath its chin. The little guy let out another 'Fou!' and eagerly leaned into her touch, obviously enjoying the sensation. Its fur was soft, fluffy, and almost felt like a small cloud in the palm of her hand. It was nice, and made for decent company until Rex returned with whatever Tora needed.

"That's better, don't you think?" Pyra smiled, "You waiting for someone too?"

Its head bobbed up and down, still deeply enjoying the scratches, "Fou-Fou-!"

"Oh really? You too?" she nodded, "That's good. Wouldn't want a little one like you to be all by himself, right?"

With how small the little creature was, Pyra didn't want to imagine it being all by its lonesome. Torigoth was a quaint little town but outside its walls were a different story. There was a reason why Azurda often hid inside Rex's helmet during battle. One wrong swipe and the miniature titan would chow for some predator. This little fluff ball wouldn't last a second against many of the Titan's resident creatures, that's for sure.

"Fou!"

She smiled, "That's good."

"Pyra!"

Looking up from the tiny creature, the Aegis spotted a familiar face making his way through the crowd. Rex, clothed in his blue scavenger suit, walked up to her. He bore a cheerful grin and along with his helmet, the boy also sported a large burlap sack slung over his shoulder, practically stuffed to bursting.

"We got all the parts! We're gonna head back to Tora's house to make sure they all fit properly," he smiled. But as he spoke, Rex noticed the little creature sitting on Pyra's lap, "Oh? What's that?"

Pyra shrugged and gave the critter a pat, "I don't really know. It just decided to keep me company. Have you ever seen something like it before?"

"Nope. Can't think of one." her driver scratched his chin, "Though, I'm not too familiar with critters in general. Hey! Gramps! What do you think?"

At the sound of the boy's question, another small white creature popped its head out of Rex's helmet. It had white fur like Pyra's new acquaintance but it's was far shorter with a pair of small wings and a horn at the center of its forehead. Oddly, it too had a glowing gem on its chest quite like Pyra's.

"Can't say I have either. And that's quite the accomplishment from me." Azurda noted, "I wonder where it came from…?"

Pyra gave a small shrug. She hadn't the slightest idea either, "Not sure. It's apparently waiting for someone too. Not sure who though."

"Hopefully, they show up soon." Rex noted, his gaze turning to the sky, "Looks like a storm could be rolling in soon. Tora said his Artificial Blade business needs it."

Indeed, as long as Rex and Tora had been shopping, the sky had grown darker. The day wasn't ending just yet but the clouds had grown dense and heavy. With the wind picking up, there would be a storm approaching soon. Wouldn't be too fierce but not something anyone would want to get caught up in.

That made Pyra worry a bit. The tiny cloak adorning the critter wouldn't hold a candle to an actual downpour. Poor little guy would get drenched…

"Oh well, if they don't show up, you can always bring him with us."

Pyra blinked up at Rex, "Oh? You sure Tora would be okay with that? It is his home. I wouldn't want to impose…"

The boy smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder, "Yeah! It would just be for the night. I'm sure Tora wouldn't mind a bit, promise."

"Rex…" Pyra muttered.

At her Driver's word. Pyra smiled and turned her attention back to the fluffy creature. The little fuzzball curled had curled up on her lap, clearly content with someone massaging its fur.

"Well, what do you say?" she giggled at the critter, "Would you like to stay with us for a bit while you wait for your friends?"

Finally addressed personally, the fluffy creature popped up its head and looked at Pyra and Rex. It's beady eyes glanced between the Driver and Blade and gave an excited nod.

"Fou!"

Rex chuckled, "Seems like that's a yes! And is that your name little guy? Fou?"

"Fou-Fou-Fou!"

This little furry creature, Fou, hopped up onto its paws and patted one of Pyra's hands. It stood on its back paws and gave the pair a small little dance as the two watched on. Both Driver and Blade shared a look between each other and laughed, unable to resist. It seemed Rex had hit the nail on the head, though it wasn't too hard.

"Well then, "Pyra chuckled, "That's that then, it's nice to meet you Fou."

Rex nodded and gave the little guy a light pat on the head, "Yeah, it'll be fine!"

"I'm sure your friends will be around to fetch you soon."
