Moving to Seattle meant a lot of changes to one Harvey Specter.

Physicality

Sure Harvey still boxes when they moved to Seattle. But now he had time and the inclination to take up other physical pursuits to keep in shape and he was definitely in great, if not better, shape. Golf, for instance. He has been on the links many times over the years in NYC, but it was usually in connection to a client, whether a current or prospective one. He never really had the time to enjoy it, but now he did. However, he made the mistake, at least in his mind, of inviting Rachel and Donna to join him and Mike one Saturday afternoon, and let's just say he and Mike were handed quite a loss. Turns out Rachel is a natural and has enjoyed golfing with her father for many years. She regularly bested Robert, something Robert had failed to disclose to either Harvey or Mike. After their trouncing, the foursome would still go golfing, but Mike and Harvey decided to go on their own a little bit more often.

Mike and Harvey also joined a local baseball league. Mike still hit like a monkey trying to have sex with a buffalo, but as much as Harvey didn't want to admit it, Mike was quick on the bases, when he was able to actually get on them. And he was a killer outfielder. So they ended up being quite the team, Harvey knocking things out of the park and Mike holding his own on defense. Hearing Donna cheer for him in the stands was quite the high for him and while he didn't want to admit that his shoulder bothered him after every game, he quite enjoyed Donna's willingness to massage his aching muscles when they got home.

Another physical pursuit that Harvey had never enjoyed in New York, mainly because he had never actually gone, was climbing on rock walls. One Saturday afternoon, the foursome decided to try it out, mainly on Mike's insistence. Mike and Rachel had tried it out when they first arrived in Seattle and made it a point to go regularly. And once Donna and Harvey arrived, they were excited to get them involved with it too. And while Harvey does ok, Donna is absolutely amazing at it. She clamors up the walls like she was part Spiderman. Though, Harvey is not really shocked at this. He has first-hand knowledge of Donna's fearlessness, not to mention her flexibility and strong grip, thank you very much. While he doesn't do as much climbing as Donna, you will almost always find him there when Donna is. Part of him has this weird belief that as long as he is present, she won't fall or get hurt, though he knows he really wouldn't be able to do much. Mostly he is there to fend off any guys who dare to check out his wife and who make comments about her. And he can admit to himself that he is there to watch his wife. Donna is never really all that shocked when after she is done climbing, he wants to get her home as soon as possible.

Clothing

While in New York, one would find Harvey in a tailored suit ninety percent of the time. This was mostly because he was at work so often, whether working late or over the weekend. Plus the suit was Harvey's suit of armor and he always seemed to be in battle, whether in court or at the office. But now that he is in Seattle, his suits aren't worn as much. Of course when he is in court, Harvey is looking fine in his bespoke threads, but when he is in the office, he is usually in business casual mostly without a tie. Sure he has a few ties and a couple suits there in case he needs to meet with a client or head to court in a rush, but he finds he likes being able to work and not be worried about wrinkling his suit.

And when he is at home or out on the weekend, you will find Harvey in jeans, sweatpants, sweatshirts, or t-shirts. Seattle allowed Harvey to breathe and relax and his clothing reflected that.

Hair

Anyone who knew Harvey in New York could probably pick him out of a crowd just by his hair alone. His coiffure was stuff of legends and the amount of products that went into making it defy gravity often overshadowed how many Donna needed to make hers shine like the queen that she is. And Harvey went to only one man to cut even a millimeter off his head. Well, that man was not in Seattle and Harvey was not going to take frequent cross-country trips to get a haircut, though the Harvey of old may just have, given that his hair, like the clothes he wore, was an integral part of his suit of armor.

Instead, just like his clothing regime, Harvey's hair regimen became much more relaxed in Seattle. He still uses a few products in his hair, but very few. And it is definitely longer. No, he doesn't have Jason Momoa-length hair and he can't get it into a ponytail of any sort, but it is definitely not defying the law of gravity anymore. The length wasn't even necessarily by choice at first either. While on their honeymoon and those first few weeks in Seattle, Harvey didn't have time or the inclination to get a haircut. But what really sealed the deal was Donna's reaction to Harvey having a longer mane. Let's just say she likes it. Really, really LIKES it. Especially during those times when they can't keep their hands off one another. Once he knew that Donna loves his longer hair and LOVES to grab his hair, he definitely has no inclination to cut it, except when it gets a little too long for both him and Donna's taste. After finding the perfect length, he made sure that it was always that way.

As for facial hair, Harvey used to shave his face to within an inch of its life every day, sometimes more than once in order to keep it smooth, just another part of the best closer in New York. But like the hair on top of his head, Harvey gave his razor more days off. This also started on his honeymoon and again when he discovered Donna's very happy reaction to his scruff and eventually a full beard, well that made his decision easy. He does keep it trimmed nicely. No mountain man scraggly beard for him, though.

Glasses

As much as Harvey hated to admit it, his eyes didn't work as perfect as they used to be. Too much time reading law books and writing and researching on his computer had taken a toll. After some gentle hints which became less gentle and less subtle, Donna was forced to drag Harvey to the ophthalmologist and Harvey, having no choice, reluctantly had an eye exam. Despite his continued denial that he had perfect vision and didn't need glasses, the doctor explained otherwise, handing him his prescription. More cajoling and Harvey went on another trip, this time to the optical shop. Harvey whined and said no to every pair offered by the optician. Donna suggested he go look around for himself and try a few on. She also looked through the displays to see if she could find something that he might actually wear. Harvey tried a couple of ridiculous colored ones on in order to placate his wife so that he could say he tried but couldn't find anything. Donna's response was to give him a look that screamed to be serious and actually try some on. Harvey exhaled loudly and turned back to the displays, muttering under his breath "Fine."

He grabbed a random pair of square-shaped tortoise shell colored ones and put them on and then looked back at Donna and asked about them. When Donna turned around to look at her husband, she had no words. Instead, she took a deep breath in and out, her pupils dilated, and she bit her lip. All those signs meant only one thing, Harvey was DEFINITELY getting this pair. And he didn't mind paying the extra money to have them ready in an hour as he knew he was not going home without them. They also got him contacts for those times when he didn't want to wear glasses but needed too and even had them put in transition lenses so that on the seemingly few days when it was sunny in Seattle, he would be able to see clearly wearing the glasses. The doctor told him he didn't need to wear glasses all the time, but he was surprisingly willing to do so whenever he was home with his wife. Eventually, he wore them most of the time anyways.

Time

Time for Harvey in New York meant long nights and weekends at the firm working on his cases. He made some time on Friday or Saturday nights to go out and find company or go out for a drink, but most of his week was spent working. That changed drastically when they moved out west. Weekends and long nights at work became an exception and not the norm. Seattle not only gave Harvey room to breathe, but time to breathe. Going out with Donna alone or with Rachel and Mike became a weekly event. Longer weekends with Donna to explore places around Seattle and Washington. Week or multiple week long vacations to Europe, Australia, or basically anywhere in the world also became a more regular event. And trips back to New York City to visit friends and up to Boston to visit his brother also became a regular thing in his calendar too.

On a few trips back to the Big Apple, Harvey would run into Travis Tanner or other attorneys he would face in court. Harvey was a changed man, both on the inside and outside, and more than one of those run-ins involved comments that he had gone soft and he sure wasn't the best closer anymore. Harvey laughed them off but a morsel of their comments stuck with him. Would the Harvey of today be able to make it in New York anymore. He pushed those thoughts aside and put his focus back on his visit back to the city and his friends. When he and Donna made it back to Seattle, those thoughts were in the far back of his mind and he continued to live his life as he had done.

Time, pt. 2

Time in Seattle meant more time for him and Donna, until it didn't. Finding out Donna was pregnant was a shock, finding out they were having twins left Harvey the speechless one for once. Once Harvey gained the ability to speak again, he was absolutely overjoyed. Children were never really on his radar. At least not until Louis started his quest to have a child with Sheila. It was just an amorphous feeling in his gut then. It was finally put into words when he met with Stan and Louis. And he also knew in his gut that there was only one person that he could ever have children with. So when he found out that this was to be his reality, he knew and relished not being the center of attention. Donna became his whole world when they finally realized they were it for each other. Now that world and everything he did in that world would be expanding and he couldn't wait.

Quinn was the first of the twins to make their appearance. And it was almost eerie how much she resembled Harvey as a baby. Blonde, brown-eyed, and a grin that could light up the world with a couple of freckles above her eye.

Liam appeared about 5 minutes after his sister and after he was cleaned up, Harvey couldn't be more overjoyed to see that he would be the strawberry blonde of the two. He, like his sister, had their mother's nose but he was the one to have Donna's hazel eyes.

Both children inherited their mother's ability to read people. On more than one occasion, when one of their parents came home after a particularly long day or tough case, they seemed to know exactly what they needed, either stretching out their arms as if asking for and then giving kisses, laughing to the point of hiccuping, or just being extra cuddly. They hadn't started speaking really, but although "mama" was both children's first word, the day they each said "dada" was the best sound Harvey ever heard. Another anniversary he added to his mental calendar to be sure to celebrate each year, The calendar that was increasingly being added to, despite Harvey once being a man that didn't celebrate much of anything.

Once the children arrived, Harvey's time was no longer his own, and he didn't mind one bit. From dealing with their feeding and napping schedules, having play time on their living room floor, reading to them each night before bed, and so on and so forth. Harvey relished being a father and he couldn't imagine his life without his wife or children. He didn't mind that sometimes the children would grab onto his hair or his beard. As they gained strength, removing their tiny hands became more and more of a task, but like anything dealing with his children, Harvey loved that his children loved him. Harvey loved spending his time with his children, no matter what it was.

The best closer in New York?

Harvey never missed a story before bedtime. That is until one of the firm's clients needed someone in New York for a hearing. Unfortunately, this meant Harvey as Rachel was just about due to add to the Ross clan and there was no way that Mike was going to leave and go cross-country. It was too important a matter to leave to even one of the senior associates, so Harvey was the one to pack his bags. He absolutely hated leaving. He and Donna worked out a schedule, given the time difference, so that he would be able to see and talk to the children as much as possible. He would have preferred for Donna and the children to accompany him, but the idea of trekking cross-country with two children less than a year old and with Rachel ready to give birth, Harvey and Donna made the decision that on this trip, Harvey would go alone.

Once he arrived in New York, he checked into a hotel as he and Donna had long since sold both their apartments. The hope was that the trial wouldn't last too long so that he could get back to his family as soon as possible. He had arrived on a Thursday with the plan of having a meeting on Friday with opposing counsel in an attempt to work something out to avoid trial the next week. While Harvey arrived at the conference in his trademark bespoke suit, he also had his long hair, beard, and glasses.

To say the meeting was unproductive is an understatement. There was no way to move forward which made sense to Harvey. He wasn't about to cave just to avoid a trial, so despite wanting to go home, Harvey knew he would be remaining in New York for a little longer. As he packed up and started to leave the room, the opposing counsel, an attorney Harvey had faced and trounced on several occasions, made comments to his co-counsel disparaging Harvey. About how he had gone soft. Harvey didn't respond and just left.

Those comments weighed on his mind and brought back the earlier interactions with other attorneys when he and Donna had visited over the last couple of years. He spoke with Donna that evening and many times over the weekend, talking and reading to the children. But he didn't share those nagging thoughts or feelings. Had he really changed so much that he wouldn't be able to compete and win here in New York anymore. Had he lost his edge?

By Sunday afternoon, those thoughts had become too loud to ignore. Just as Harvey Specter could get a table at any restaurant he wanted in New York whenever he wanted, getting an appointment for a haircut on a Sunday with the only barber in New York he ever let touch his hair was also still an easy task. His barber had no problem opening up on a Sunday afternoon and was quite shocked when Harvey showed up with his now hirsute face and head. The haircut and shave took a lot more time than his haircuts had been in the past but by the end, the Harvey of old had reemerged.

And when Harvey walked into the courtroom the following day, the other attorneys had no idea what hit them. Harvey took no prisoners and ended up completely winning for their clients. If the other attorneys had been smart, they would have worked with Harvey on Friday and then been able to go back to their clients with something. Instead, they left the courtroom with absolutely nothing and with their tails between their legs. Harvey left with a smirk and politely reminded them that no matter what he might look like on the outside, he was still Harvey Specter and he would always kick their asses.

Harvey was able to wrap the trial earlier that day than planned once it was clear that it was heading to the courtroom, so he quickly arranged to catch an earlier flight back to his family. By his calculations with the time difference, he should make it back home right around the end of lunch or the start of play time. He went straight from court to the airport, having made sure his luggage was ready to go, thanks to Ray, who was happily on loan from Katrina, who had taken on Ray's services after Harvey and Donna left town.

As soon as Harvey landed in Seattle, he texted Donna to let her know. She had been feeding the twins and let them know that their daddy was going to be home soon. As soon as she said daddy, both of the twins started repeating "dada" and looking towards the area of the hallway by the front door, which is where Harvey would show up at the end of the day.

While Harvey was in New York, whenever he would call and be on speakerphone or a video call, the twins would laugh, clap their hands, and repeat "dada." While he loved hearing his children call him that, it also pulled at his heartstrings being away from his family. He and Donna had suffered one or two days away from each other for various reasons since they became an item and that was hard enough. Being away this long from her and their children was excruciating. On the taxi ride back to his house, Harvey resolved that any future business trips would involve the entire family, even if that meant dealing with two loud and cranky children on a plane.

Harvey?

Harvey bounded from the cab once it arrived at his home. The few seconds it would take him to get in the door to see his wife and children were just too many. He opened the door and he could hear his children babbling happily. He dropped his luggage in the hallway and he could hear that as soon as the children were aware someone had entered the house, their volume greatly increased and "dada" was repeated over and over again.

Harvey turned the corner with the biggest grin on his face with his arms wide but the children's happy attitude quickly turned in screaming fits. Harvey quickly kisses Donna and gives her a confused look as he is not sure why the drastic change of the twins, so he goes over to Quinn and picks her up, starting to talk to her as he usually talks to the children and trying to kiss her cheek. Quinn's cries became even louder, if that's possible, and she almost threw herself at her mom to get to her. Donna took Quinn from Harvey and quirked her eyebrow at her husband.

Donna had been a little surprised when her husband walked into the living room. The Harvey that left was not the one who had returned. She was now facing the Harvey she had spent over a decade being close in terms of their working spaces rather than the one she has become intimately closer to over the last few years. Unfortunately, it was not the Harvey the children knew and they were making that clearly and loudly known.

After trying to pick up Quinn, Harvey's attempts with Liam resulted in the same increase in volume. Rather than continue to have the children be upset, Donna suggested he go take a shower and give her a chance to calm the two down as maybe they had just been too excited or needed to take a nap.

Harvey reluctantly went into their bedroom and took a shower. His children didn't know him. They weren't laughing at him or yelling "dada." Instead they were screaming bloody murder with his attempts just to hold them. The shower helped calm him down a little, but just a little. The shower required him taking out his contacts which he had worn to court earlier in the day. This actually provided him some relief. Once done, he grabbed his usual t-shirt and sweats that he wore when home.

He looked at himself in the mirror and really didn't recognize the man looking back. It was the Harvey of old, the one his children didn't know. And he was glad of that in many ways since that Harvey had kept people, most of all his wife, at arm's length for years, didn't share his feelings, and was more concerned about the win. That Harvey hadn't existed in years and he really wasn't in a hurry to return to it. He metaphorically kicks himself for thinking he needed to look like the Harvey of old to win for his clients. He realizes that with the case he had, he had the other side no matter what they did.

So looking in the mirror, Harvey resolved to return to the Harvey Specter that came into being in Seattle. The one loved by his children and adored by his wife. He would cut his hair or trim his beard, but only when he wanted to, not in response to idiot attorneys or the belief that he had to look a certain way. Now he just had to make it through until his facial hair grew in. Hopefully the twins would recognize him with just a few days' scruff as it would take quite a while for the hair on his head to grow back to its original length.

He took a deep breath in, grabbed his glasses, and gathered strength enough to go face his children knowing that they didn't want to be near him. He slowly walked back into the living room, hoping that they had calmed down enough to allow him to be in the same room. Donna was sitting on the floor with them, trying to occupy them with some blocks so Harvey got down on the floor too, though not right next to them. He called them and they looked at him.

Neither started immediately yelling but both had a very skeptical look on their face. Progress he thought. Maybe the glasses helped. He sat with them some more and held out his hands to allow the children to make the choice rather than feeling forced. Liam was occupied with a block near Donna but Quinn kept her eyes on Harvey. Looking him over slowly. Harvey scooted a little closer, hoping to ease into being able to hold his daughter. Quinn just kept her eyes on him. So he did it again and held out his hands again. He moved slowly to pick her up and hold her, making sure that she still had Donna in his line of sight in case she got scared. She didn't yell, just continued eyeing Harvey. He tried calling her name and other things he usually said to the twins in the hopes that his voice would let them know he was not a stranger, but their father.

Donna picked up Liam in the same way and made sure that he could see Harvey too, scooting a little bit closer to her husband. Harvey talked to Liam as well, hoping that he would also be more open to his father. After a few minutes of this, the kids were still quiet and a little standoffish, but weren't actively trying to get away from Harvey.

An idea then popped into his head. One activity that both children loved to do was dance around with their parents, often the music getting drowned out by their uncontrollable laughter. It was also sometimes a means of calming them down for a nap or bedtime, usually with Gordon's music playing in the background. Sometimes Harvey would even bust out singing a little depending on the song.

He gently got up with Quinn still in his arms and headed towards the record player. He decided a Gordon Specter song would do wonders and he knew just the one. It was more upbeat for some dancing and included some lyrics, allowing the kids to hear him sing, hoping that would do the trick.

The music started and he began slowly swinging around with Quinn, bouncing her a little. Donna got up with Liam and did the same thing. Liam was happy dancing with his mother, but Quinn was still skeptical of the person holding her, so Harvey began singing the lyrics he had sung a hundred times. A couple of lines in and Quinn grabbed Harvey face between her hands and stared at him as he sang. He wasn't sure what to make of this until her eyes got large and a loud "dada" finally left her mouth.

As she had done on many occasions, she threw her arms around Harvey's neck and kept repeating "dada." Harvey took a long exhale and was so relieved that his daughter finally realized that he was her father. He pulled her back in order to look at her and started talking to her as he always did, telling her how much he loved her, kissing her cheeks, and hugging her.

He looked over at Donna with one of the biggest smiles she had ever seen. They then had one of their world-famous non-talking conversations and then switched children. Harvey hoped Liam would make the same realizations as his sister. Harvey again started slowly dancing around with his son, bouncing him and then started singing just as he had. While Liam didn't throw himself at Harvey like his sister, he did make the connection and start saying "dada," though it was a little muffled as he also decided to stick his fist in his mouth and drool.

Harvey again looks over at Donna and mouths Thank goodness! The four of them then continue to dance around their living room, eventually ending up in a four-person huddle, laughing and smiling.

Harvey Specter was home and he had no plans of leaving it again, at least not alone.
