A/N: I wrote this fic last year and had the intention of writing a multichapter fic about BakuCamie but my writing kind of got lost. This chapter was the first one and was already completed so I figured I'd post it while it was still in my drafts. I want to preface by saying that I wrote this to have some sort of romantic development in the later chapters that don't exist because I didn't write anything yet so this alone doesn't have any romance.
Disclaimer: Unbetaed. Forgive any mistakes in grammar, spelling, or anything of the sort.
Setting: years after graduating from U.A.
.
partners against crime
.
Patrolling would be more interesting if someone actually did something.
Sure, Bakugou would most definitely stop villains and criminals as soon as they even consider the idea of running away. But he would give them at least five seconds head start of respect if they were trying hard.
Bakugou Katsuki has been a Pro-Hero for almost three years now.
"Isn't that totes a good thing?" Camie, his partner, asked at his side.
The two Heroes were on the patrol shift and it was usually what Bakugou dreads doing because that would mean hours of just perusing the streets with low action actually happening. Despite graduating from U.A. And being older and hopefully mature, he still likes the thrill of fighting someone strong.
Utsushimi Camie has been his partner for almost two years and she is considered one of and if not, the only person in their agency that can handle Bakugou. Most of the workers there either idolize him too much to think about working together or they're afraid of him. Mostly the latter.
When he first transferred to the agency, he thought that he was going to get his fresh start out of high school. He made sure to not tell anyone where he was going and so he can focus on his work with no dumb social interactions getting in the way. To him, too many people befriending him would get in the way of his path to be number one. He wasn't going to look to Deku of all people.
When he landed in the agency, he was satisfied with the move.
But on his first day, he was met with the sort of one semi-familiar face and an irritatingly cheery call of his name. Or the bastardization of it. Bakubabe...gross.
Of course, the universe was playing a dumb joke with him and let him work at the same agency as Camie, the girl from Shiketsu high and one year above him. He remembered a few students from that school. Mainly the one who was irritating enough for him to even bother to remember. She was one of the ones who he remembered not because they fought or anything but because of how insanely insistent on being friends and voluntarily offer information about herself to him.
They talked a few times before. All of their conversations were casual. But the two lost contact after graduating and going to their respectable paths. Who knew to lead them to the same place at the same time.
Bakugou tried his best to avoid her. Wanting to Primarily focus on work and goals. He might be "lame" but yeah, he was not going to be dead last and lose to people like half n half, four eyes, or (shudder) Deku.
One day, Camie and he were assigned to the same mission and after completing it, their boss thought that it would be a great idea to keep going with that and so they worked on the mission after that and their next one and the next one and the next one...
They were unofficially partners but Camie said that they were "totes so close that they were practically married."
"Everyone's so goddamn boring."
"Uhhh yeah that's called peace, duh," Camie teases playfully by his side while waving to civilians that they pass by.
Being "partners," they were usually put on the same shift and spend a lot of time together. Like a lot of time together. If you had told the blond about how much time he was going to be spending with a ditzy chatter mouth like Camie, he would have laughed and blasted you away a few feet. But surprisingly, Bakugou had grown used to her shenanigans and he can almost understand her use of slang which she insisted on using in her everyday language.
"Oh look the florist dude totes just asked that customer out. You know, the one that always comes in. We all know she doesn't need the flower and she only comes over to see the hot florist dude." Camie pointed at the flower shop. There, as she said, was the son of the flower shop owner who looked very similar to a frog and the pretty college girl who stops by to purchase different bouquets every week as an excuse to talk to the said son of the flower shop owner. Apparently, the guy is meek and shy but the pretty college girl still likes him. (1)
The only reason why Bakugou knows about this whole romance is that Camie is oddly fascinated by them during their patroling and tells him everything.
"If you ask me, I'd say he's at least a six, at best. But you do you boo-boo."
"Right," Bakugou says sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "As if she's a ten."
"Whoa, whoa, Bakuboo. She is totes a cutie," Camie looks at the young man incredulously.
"Whatever," He grumbles. There wasn't any use arguing with the woman because one, he doesn't care, two, he doesn't have the time because they're supposed to be working, and three, he doesn't care. "Not my type."
Camie gasps dramatically. "The great mighty blast boy has a type! Can I finally tell those girls that they can slide into em DMs?"
"Not interested."
"For reals, girls are thirsty. Thirst traps and everything. And you need a date, Bakubabe. Oh! Let's take a selfie to, like, celebrate Bakugou Katsuki actually finding a type he's into." She takes her phone out of her pocket and pulls up her camera before Bakugou threw his hand on the front camera.
"For the hundredth time, I don't want to date any of those strangers you added to your contacts list. By the way, you gotta doing that. It's dangerous and irresponsible." Bakugou lectured her often about why she shouldn't just ask random people she met for their numbers. He's dragged her to the phone store before changing her number again for the fifth time over their months of working together and he deleted her contacts she added the day of to avoid her phone from overflowing with random and stupid numbers.
"C'mon, virgin boy. When's the last time you went on a date?" She asks even though he knows she knows the answer.
"I'm not a virgin boy and it's none of your business so focus on your job, woman."
"Yeah, yeah, dad," Camie says playfully. "btw, I totes am focusing cus those two school children just entered that convenience store, florist dude just came out to greet pretty college girl with some pretty hydrangea btw, an old lady is crossing the street with that young businessman who decided to help, and a mother and her baby are about to walk by us." She then waves at the young mother pushing a stroller with her baby in it with a smile. The gesture was returned with a smile from the mother. Camie turns back to Bakugou. "Boom. I'm awesome at patrols."
"Never said you weren't..."
As laidback as Camie portrays herself, she was not lazy. Camie wasn't a serious person but she took the job seriously and Bakugou respects her for that. She was good when it comes to combat and despite the ditzy personality, she was brilliant when it comes to interrogation. Talking should be her other Quirk if doubling a Quirk was a thing.
"Another boring patrol day." Bakugou huffs. Given his explosive Quirk and his attitude, it should be no surprise that he lived for the thrill of actual combat. He didn't take a liking to the "normal" parts of being a Pro-Hero like patrols and the mountains of paperwork they have to deal with after any mission. If he had it his way, he would definitely do most of the action. That's one of the reasons why Bakugou wants to work to be able to open his own agency. While his parents were kind enough to offer to help him with the money (Mostly his softie dad), he wasn't going to accept their help. He can do it on his own!
Camie didn't seem to mind the monotonous parts of their job. She liked patroling because it let her go out and "take in that D, that vitamin D haha" (her words, not his), and she doesn't really mind the paperwork. Sure, sometimes she abuses her power and convinces a low intern to file some of it for her. But for the most part, she gets her work done on her own.
"Wow, dude. Just say you want someone to rob a store or somethin'" Camie says with a mocking tone.
"That's not what I meant."
A scream erupts from behind them and the two Heroes turn to find a figure pushing down the mother to the ground and snatch her purse that's attached to the stroller. Luckily, the force did not tip over the stroller carrying the child but it did frighten the baby as they can tell from the wails.
"Is that exciting for you?" Camie asks before taking off over to the fallen mother.
Rolling his eyes, Bakugou follows her. The purse snatcher ran straight into the alleyway that the mother was conveniently walking by, making her a good target for this type of crime.
"You alright?" Camie asks the mother, helping her up. She also made sure the child was safe as well.
"Yes. He came out of nowhere and took my purse. Oh, my baby!"
Bakugou doesn't want to stick too long for the boring stuff, making his way through the alley.
"I'll come through the other way!" He hears Camie call out to him. Making that mental note.
Bakugou knows that the thief wouldn't get far because he was definitely running on foot. He feels like a guy either doesn't have a Quirk or a super lame one.
Making his way to the middle of the alleyway, the darkness was a bit daunting and the silence was eerie but he knew that the bastard was there because he could feel a presence.
"Come out, you coward," Bakugou calls out, his fingers twitching to ignite his nitroglycerin sweat. "We can do this the easy way." Bakugou doesn't want the easy way but for the sake of doing his job efficiently, he will.
From the corner of his eye, he could see a hand coming out from the shadows of the alleyway wall and headed towards him. In response, Bakugou duck and wave his hand over to set off an explosion. Not enough to blow up the place but still enough to numb someone. He sees an unassuming male pop out from the darkness and onto the ground with a loud boom. Easy.
The thief crawls backward as soon as he saw Bakugou looming over him. It can be deduced from his expression that he was terrified. Bakugou walked slowly towards him, enjoying the situation. But then he disappears as soon as he reaches the shadows.
So he can disappear when he reaches a shadow but it has to be from other objects...
Bakugou roll his eyes and created a ball of light in his hand, he released a light explosion. Stun Grenade!
Of course with the blinding light, the loser pop out from the shadows.
He runs towards the Explosion Hero with a knife in hand. Bakugou stops the knife hand with his arm and landing a punch to the stomach. That seemed to do it because the guy drops like nothing. Typical.
Bakugou grabs the lady's purse and made sure everything was inside. Digging through, the guy has enough time to gather himself to make for the other opening of the alleyway.
Bakugou groans as he chased after him. "They never know when to stop."
For someone who had just got punched in the stomach, he was surprisingly fast. Bakugou can see that he was about to make his way to the street and that would make things more difficult because he'll be with other civilians, possibly endangering them (Doubt it, to be honest).
As soon as the guy makes it to the end of the alley, a familiar blonde pops from where she was hiding.
Camie grabs the guy by the arm and forcibly twists it behind his back, kicking his legs from behind and made him drop to the ground. "Gotcha!"

.
"Welp, wasn't that fun?" Camie asks him. They captured the lame purse snatcher and detained them for a bit while waiting for the police to arrive to take him away. After they knew that he was in police custody and it was safe, they returned to their usual banter and patrol.
"Tch," Bakugou crosses his arms in annoyance. "What's fun about a lame purse snatcher? Dude didn't even last 20 minutes."
"You tote blinded him back there," Camie points out. "Not like the dude could make it that far."
"Still lame."
Bakugou and Camie hear a meek 'excuse me' and they turn to find the mother pushing her stroller towards them, looking much better than she did the last time they saw her. The mother has a grateful smile as they stop for her. "Thank you so much for returning my purse." The mother bowed.
"Don't worry bout it. It's, like, our job," Camie reassures. Bakugou didn't find it easy to talk to civilians, especially when people were thanking him so he leaves that to Camie because at least they'll get a friendly response.
"No, you two are me and my baby's heroes. Honestly, thank you." She bows again.
Bakugou turned to face her and uncrossed his arms. "It's okay..." It was an awkward response and there was a moment of silence after he responded but the mother and Camie smiled so he's assuming it was alright.
"Are you two dating? You two look very close."
"What? No!" Bakugou protests quickly that drew the attention of the two women to him again along with the child in the stroller.
Camie laughs lightheartedly. "No, but if you ask, he totes wanna date me."
"You wish." Camie sticks her tongue out at him.
Apparently, the lady was an owner of a cafe and gave them coupons to get free drinks which Camie happily accepted and told her they would absolutely be there. She waved goodbye to the mother and cute baby and Bakugou was leaning against the building waiting for Camie to finish her talk with the civilians. Thankfully, there weren't a lot of people around so he doesn't have to deal with cellphones pointing at his face.
"We gotta go back to patrolling," Bakugou glances at his phone to check the time, and they have another hour left of their shift and he was dying to get home and knock out. "C'mon, Maboromicamie." (2) He smirks. He only used her Hero name to mock her.
"Okie. Got it, Dynamight." (2) Camie replies and starts to walk. "Oh, we should def get dinner. How about ramen? Soba? Oh! Tonkatsu! There's a really good restaurant around here."
"Whatever you want, woman."
(1) Kawaii Hito (Saitou Ken) - a wholesome shoujo manga that deserves to get a mention. I recommend others to read it and get cavities because it's that sweet.
(2) That is Camie's canon hero name. I think it's actually very cute and fits her well. Not a hit on others but I never really liked the fan names that were basic like Miss Illusion or something of that sort. While it worked and we didn't get the official name, I thought I never fit Camie as a character since she's fun and creative. I was excited to see her official hero name. It is quite long but I think it definitely fits her. Difficult to understand but it's fun and creative with her Quirk (illusion, maboroshi) in it and her name Camie. It is just so her, ya know?
(3) I had written Bakugou's hero name as the fan theorized name, Ground Zero. But obviously, I changed it to the canon hero name, Dynamight. I have mixed feelings about it since I did like the fan name but I understand why Horikoshi didn't go with Ground Zero. It fits him, especially since the official title is Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight. Includes everything he wanted that was rejected by Midnight (cries).
A/N: I hope you enjoyed this! I tried to do something different by using present tense instead of the typical past tense that I am used to. I had an idea where I wanted to go with this as a multichapter and I might continue if the inspiration hits or if someone might want more... I'll keep this ongoing for the time being but this could stand on its own.
Reviews are much appreciated :)
