Gotoubun No Hanayome: Six Souls

Hi, first off, I'd like to introduce myself before I start my story. My name is Yusei (Yuu for short). I want to try and become an author in the future, and I thought that writing fanfics would be a good place to start. I'd like to preface this by saying that English is my third language, so if there are any grammar or punctuation mistakes, my bad. I'd also like to preface this by saying one thing, please don't hesitate to be as brutal as you'd like in the reviews section.

Since I am a new writer, I'd like to get some criticism so that I can improve. I plan on uploading a chapter every week for now since I am still in the middle of exam season.

(Amazing time to release a fanfic, amirite?)

I'd also like to say thank you to LanceSennin for the inspiration for this idea.

I do not own the quintessential quintuplets. All characters in this fanfic (apart from a few original OCs with whom I've drawn inspiration from other characters) belong to Negi Haruba.

Chapter 1: The transfer:

"WHAT IF... WHY?"*

These were the two questions I kept asking myself as I tried fighting back. This was the third time this month that I had gotten into a fight. What makes this ironic is that I was the one who was protecting the victim. The victim I was trying to protect was a somewhat scrawny boy who's the same age as me. He was infamously known in our year group as one of the most destitute people in our year. I had pitied the kid, so I decided to fight back in his place.

Much to my displeasure, this had escalated into a full-blown death match. I was able to hold my own, and I had even managed to knock the tormentor out! I started to feel a bit of satisfaction, and the kid who was being picked on had thanked me. These feelings of glee and dominance had dissipated quickly as that very afternoon, I was called into the principal's office. I got severely reprimanded by the principal, and he decided that enough was enough. I was expelled.

Oh, I realized, I forgot to introduce myself, didn't I? Hi. My name is Uesugi Fuutarou, though, I'd rather just go by Fuutarou. Gifted Genius, high achiever, protector of the weak, the top dog... Not to brag, but those were some titles that I had received throughout the years, but that doesn't change one fact: I am a hardcore delinquent. I may be the highest-ranking student in my whole school, hell, possibly even the district, but people tend to describe me as a no-nonsense, intimidating individual who seeks a good thrill.

Honestly though, they aren't wrong. I love a good brawl. This however, had been the last straw. I had been expelled. Back at home, my legal guardian and godfather, Maruo Nakano had given me a stare of disappointment. The stare was so powerful that I had felt a ghastly presence slowly beginning to implant itself within my spine.

"I cannot say I am surprised...", Maruo stated in a tone filled with disappointment and a hint of disgust.

"I guess you do take after your father in more ways than one. That damn Isanari... always wanting to protect the weak, getting into fights, getting suspended constantly, it honestly sickened me." Maruo lamented.

"You know, I won't say that what you did was wrong. Protecting the weak when they can't protect themselves... It is a noble act, but there are a lot of other ways that you could have gone about it..." Maruo continued to speak, not even blinking. He just sat there, glaring at Fuutarou with those petrifying, almost snake-like, slit eyes of his.

"Fret not. I have connections to other schools. A friend of mine supervises a school called Asahiyama High. From tomorrow, you and the others will be starting at that school."

Fuutarou wanted to speak up, but he knew his godfather. There was no reasoning with this man.

"Do you have any objections, Fuutarou-kun?" Maruo asked.

Fuutarou shook his head. "No, I do not, Uncle."

Maruo, as stoic and lifeless as ever, nodded his head.

"Good. Please inform the others when you return home."

They both got up to leave. As Fuutarou was about to exit out of the office, he turned around to Maruo's stern voice.

"Remember one thing, heroes always receive the wrong end of the stick. I'm not angry at you for protecting that kid, but please promise me that you will behave at your new school..."

Maruo uttered with a look in his eye that made even Fuutarou shiver.

Fuutarou stared down at his feet in shame. "Yes, Uncle..."

Fuutarou left the office in a hurry. While he knew that Maruo wasn't angry with him, he could still feel shattered pieces of Maruo's death glare slowly creeping up behind him. As Fuutarou arrived at home, he came back to a large apartment; an apartment which contains a large living room, a massive kitchen, and a large stairway leading to 8 rooms. A room for each person who inhabited this apartment. He came back home to his sisters, six of them. Fuutarou was adopted at the age of 12, along with his younger sister, Uesugi Raiha, and five other girls. Sisters. Quintuplets in fact. The first quintuplet was known as Nakano Ichika. She was the eldest of the quintuplets. She is the girl with the short hair and singular earring who is snoring, drooling away on the sofa. The second of the quintuplets was Nakano Nino. She and her butterfly hairbands were pre-occupied in the kitchen. The third of the quintuplets was Nakano Miku. Her most prominent feature was the set of large, blue headphones that always sat around her neck. She was nowhere to be seen, so he assumed that she was in her room, probably playing video games. Next was Nakano Yotsuba: the fourth of the quintuplets. She, along with her gaudy ribbon, was known to be the most extroverted of the quintuplets. She was nowhere to be seen either, so Fuutarou had assumed that she was out. Who knows? For all he knows, she could be helping out another basketball team. Finally, the fifth quintuplet, and the youngest of the 5, Nakano Itsuki, was sitting on the dining table, studying as usual. She wasn't wearing the item that made her distinguishable however, he had noticed.

He could easily tell each quintuplet apart from each other, since they were prone to disguising themselves as one another, and had often teased Fuutarou about it in the past. Before he became proficient when it came to distinguishing each quint, he had made it a habit to try and distinguish everything, from their accessories to their habits, to even how they walked.

He had received some weird stares from them in the past because of the amount of glaring that he had done. It got so far out of hand that they had started to think that Fuutarou was ogling at them, much to his annoyance.

When he had returned, Raiha was the first to notice. She leapt up from the sofa and ran towards her older brother; her only blood sibling left.

"Onii-Chan! ~" Raiha squealed with glee.

"Hey Raiha!" Fuutarou had bent down to pat Raiha's head, only to be called out by Nino from the kitchen.

"Oi, Fuu-kun! Where have you been all this time?" She asked with a stare of concern mixed with a bit of anger. She knows that something happened, but she couldn't put her finger on what.

Ichika abruptly woke up from her sleep. Upon seeing Fuutarou, she called out in a state of perpetual drowsiness.

"Ara, where have you been, Fuutarou-kun?"

Ichika attempted to stand up, but she felt like she couldn't move her body.

"Damn narcolepsy..." she whispers under her breath.

Instead, she sits up. Itsuki would have said hi to Fuutarou, but she didn't hear any of her sisters greet him.

"Dinner's ready! Could someone help me set out the table?" Nino suddenly calls out.

Miraculously, Itsuki somehow heard Nino mention the word dinner. She immediately stood up, only to garner stares from her two sisters, Fuutarou, and Raiha.

She looks around the room, surveying the confused looks of everyone else in the room. She then glanced at fuutarou.

"FUUTAROU!" Itsuki screamed in glee as she ran up to hug him.

Ichika and Nino couldn't help but laugh, and Fuutarou, in a compromised position, slowly returned the hug and patted Itsuki's back.

"Hey Itsuki..." He slowly said as he hugged her.

"Where have you been?" She frantically asked.

Fuutarou could tell that she was worried. He was normally not one for coming home this late. He glanced at the clock. The long hand struck 7 and the short hand struck 24. "7:24pm, huh? No wonder she was worried." This thought echoed through his mind.

"I was talking with Uncle. Sorry for making you worry so much..." He gave Itsuki a couple of headpats.

He was the only one Itsuki tended to act this way around.

Normally, she always conducted herself as this 'mature, calm, and collected individual', but when she was around Fuutarou, she felt inner peace. She knew that she could unwind and act like an innocent child around her beloved brother, and he wouldn't mind.

As much as he loves hanging around and hugging his Itsuki, Fuutarou couldn't breathe. He tried getting out of the hug, but Itsuki didn't want to let go.

"Itsuki, I can't breathe..." Fuutarou let out with a croaky sort of voice, patting her back at the same time.

This was his sort of signal for her to let go. This wasn't the first time that this has happened either.

"O-Oh, sorry Fuutarou..." She let out with a bit of a sigh as she reluctantly let go of Fuutarou.

As she, Fuutarou, and Raiha sat down at the table,

Ichika let out a little chuckle.

"Geez Itsuki-Chan, I didn't know you were that attached to Fuutarou-Kun. I guess you're both a lot closer than we thought."

Itsuki began to blush a tiny bit as she stammered "Sh-shut up. Isn't it normal to want to greet F-Fuutarou, especially i-if I haven't seen him in a w-while?" Itsuki kept fumbling on her words, clearly embarrassed.

Fuutarou decided to stop Ichika right there. "Alright. That's enough, Ichika." Fuutarou let out in an exasperated voice.

Ichika then tried to tease her brother too.

"Ara Fuutarou-Kun, could it possibly be that you're also embarrassed too?" Fuutarou looked at her in annoyance.

He wasn't really embarrassed as he had built up a sort of tolerance to Ichika's teasing.

"All those years of teasing hadn't been for nothing..." Fuutarou thought to himself.

His expressionless stare caused Ichika to clammer down. She tried to hide her own embarrassment behind a well-crafted mask of laughter as she just laughed the situation off, hoping that something else would happen.

"Oh, you're back? Hey Fuutarou."

A figure stood at the top of the stairs. It was easy to tell who that was, thanks to her obtrusive headphones and her timid tone. It was obvious by the way she had composed herself that it was none other than Miku Nakano herself. She smiled at Fuutarou and the others as she slowly descended from the top of the stairs.

"Oh? Everyone's already here?" A cheerful, yet somewhat surprised, and confused voice could be heard from behind everyone.

Yotsuba Nakano had arrived just in time. Everyone greeted Yotsuba in a gleeful tone. If someone knew how to bring joy to a room, it was Yotsuba. She was known as the 'disco light' of the five sisters.

She knew how to bring joy anywhere she goes. After Yotsuba greeted all of her siblings, everyone, including the somewhat reclusive Miku, and the cheerful Yotsuba sat down.

As everyone cheerfully ate dinner, Fuutarou stood up. Everyone averted their gaze towards the blonde man as he stood up with a bit of hesitation.

"Ahem, so as you may all know, I had a talk with Uncle."

"And?" Nino was the only one to speak up, her concerns arising once again.

"Uncle Maruo wanted me to inform you that we are being transferred to a new school?"

"WHAT?!" All of the quintuplets, even Raiha, was in shock.

Everyone stared incredulously at Fuutarou as he continued.

"I've unfortunately been expelled from our previous institution, and as a result, we are being transferred to a new school."

"What did you do this time?" Nino questioned Fuutarou in a voice that could probably even shake Maruo's cold and intimidating demeanour.

"I got into another fight. I was trying to protect another kid from those delinquents. You know who I am talking about. The same ones who bully everyone. I had to protect him- "

As Fuutarou continued his rant, Nino stopped him, still acting super annoyed. "That's enough out of you Fuu-kun."

"You did a good thing, but what I'm having trouble understanding is why you got in trouble for it." Ichika replied in a confused daze.

"It's how schools like ours function." He said with a tired, yet calm voice.

As he ate another piece of the steak that Nino had cooked, he quickly mentioned "Schools like ours care way more about public image rather than the wellbeing of their students. If it becomes public knowledge to other schools just how bad their students can be, it will hurt their image even more."

"But that makes no sense!" Miku blurted out, to everyone's surprise. "Doesn't that contradict what they're trying to preserve? If they're not looking after their students properly, then what's the point in trying to maintain a good image?" Miku kept going, much to everyone's surprise.

There were two things that were well known to those who have met Nakano Miku.

1. When she talks about a subject that she is passionate about, she can go on for hours.

2. Miku Nakano had really bad social skills. This has become a defining trait for her, which goes hand-in-hand with her shy personality.

It was also well-known to her family that she has been bullied in the past. Perhaps this was a topic that she was adamant about? Miku has a good heart after all, so it wouldn't be surprising that she'd want to talk about topics linked with bullying, and especially how to put a stop to it.

"Well with that Miku, while it is a fault of the school, I also believe that it is the fault of those who actively try to bully others." Itsuki said in a somewhat mature tone, only to be met with confused stares from the others.

"What does that have to do with anything?" Nino asked with a confused and maddened look on her face.

Itsuki, flustered, answers while stuttering "N-nothing!", before looking down. Her cheeks were as red as her hair.

"So, anyways..." Nino continued on, "What is our new school called?" She asked while staring at Fuutarou with the same eyes that Maruo had looked at him with. This action alone caused Fuutarou to shiver a tiny bit. This girl and their father were more like than he originally thought.

"Asahiyama High School!" Fuutarou answered abruptly.

Hearing this, Yotsuba perked up. "Asahiyama? A friend of mine from my basketball team goes there!" the girl in the green headband cheered.

Somehow, her headband was moving back and forth. While people would usually question this, her family was used to seeing weird things by now. The author is also too lazy to account for the laws of physics right now.

"R-Right..." Fuutarou looked downward, feeling like he had forgotten one crucial piece of information. He then remembered.

"Ah, one more thing, we all have to wake up at 7:30am tomorrow."

As the quints stare at him in disbelief, Raiha suddenly says "I can wake everyone up. I'm usually awake by then anyways." She casually states this with the biggest smile on her face.

Just as Itsuki asks why, Fuutarou says "We start tomorrow, so they intend to show us around the school before lessons start at 9."

He also casually relays that their father had already talked to the principal of the previous school, and the new school too, and everything had been sorted out pretty quickly. As you can see, Maruo Nakano is quite respected amongst the rich. If he is able to afford connections like these, and go through lengthy processes like this, it's no wonder that people call him 'efficient'.

As everyone let this fact sink in, they continued to eat their dinner in silence.

Once it was time for bed, Raiha was tucked in by her brother, who always insists on tucking her in, despite Yotsuba's and Itsuki's pleas to do the same. Everyone headed to their respective rooms and said goodnight to each other. Everyone slowly fell asleep, anticipating the next day. Just as he was about to fall asleep, Fuutarou heard a faint knock on the door. He opened it and much to his surprise, Itsuki is standing there with a pillow clutched to her chest, blushing, and tearing up a little.

"What's wrong? Are you okay, Itsuki?" Fuutarou asked quietly, his voice as calm as the Nile, and as quiet as a mouse.

"M-May I s-sleep here to-tonight?" She asked between sobs, almost sounding as if she was pleading for him to let her stay. She then felt a pair of long arms reach out and wrap themselves around her in a loving embrace.

Fuutarou says in that same gentle voice "Sure you can, meat-bun." As she cries into his shoulder, he can hear a muffled "Th-thank you..."

As they walked into the room, they settled down for the night. It was normal for Itsuki to sleep in the same room as Fuutarou. She has anxiety attacks during the middle of the night, and the thought of starting at a new school must have bothered her to the point of tears. It was clear that she and Fuutarou shared an unwavering bond, but the fact that she turned to him before turning to her other sisters says something...
