Once upon a time, in a little town of Hawkins Indiana, a place where strange and crazy things happened, something not so strange was about to happen. You have to understand that the past few years had been kind of crazy for the small town's children. Their friend Will had been taken to a place called the Upsidedown. They'd gotten him back for a little bit but he'd brought a part of that world back with them.

But that was all in the past now. There would be no more Demogorgon to chase after them. There would be no more Mind Flayer or people possessed by such a being. They were finally safe which meant that they could finally turn their attention to being kids once more.

"Do you want to hang out at the arcade today?" Will asked, looking over at his best friend and long-time crush, Mike Wheeler as the other boy put his arm around Eleven.

"El and I were going to go catch a movie at the new theatre they're opening up on Main Street," Mike answer, catching the glimpse of disappointment on Will's face. "Maybe we could meet up with you afterward?"

Mike was always choosing El over his friends ever since the two of them had started dating each other. Will didn't like it but he wasn't going to rock the boat and cause waves in the group. He liked his little friend group the way it was. But he couldn't help thinking that he and Mike were dating it would be even better.

"Maybe some other time then," Will said, standing up and walking towards the door. "You guys have fun at your movie."

Will could hear Mike saying that he didn't have to leave. But he certainly didn't want to go to the movies with and see them act like boyfriend and girlfriend. He didn't think that he could handle that for a whole movie.

He jumped on his bike before either Mike or El could come outside and stop him. If either of them did he was pretty sure that he'd give and end up going to the movies with them. He could hear the door banging open as he began to pedal his bike as if his life depended on it.

"Will, wait!" Mike called, sounding frantic to stop from leaving.

He didn't slow down though or even turn acknowledge that he'd heard what had been said. He if they wanted to talk to him they could come to track him down at the arcade. Maybe he'd find Dustin and Lucas and they could try and beat Max's high score on most of the games? A smile lit his face at the thought of it.

He was so engrossed in his thoughts of the auburn-haired girl's defeat that he'd almost hit an older lady trying to cross the street. He was lucky to be able to stop in time to avoid even touching the basket attached to his bike.

"I'm so sorry," he said, putting the kickstand down and jumping off his bike. "I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and almost hit you."

"Why are you in such a hurry?" the lady asked, watching him carefully as he walked towards hers. "You young kids are always in a hurry to get to the future. Rush! Rush! Rush! You never pay attention to what's going on around you."

Wil backed up bewildered as the woman continued with her rant. It wasn't like he'd meant to almost hit her. And sure he had thought a lot about the future in the past few weeks but it wasn't like he wasn't constantly looking towards it like she was suggesting.

"I know what you need," she said and started to say something in a strange language that Will had never heard before. She then gave a decided nod before tottering off across the street.

"Have a nice day," Will called after her.

He didn't give the woman or the strange chanting language she'd used another thought for the rest of the day. No. He got right back on his bike and continued on to the arcade where he did meet up with Dustin, Lucas, Max, and the de facto mother of the small group Steve.

"Mike and El, aren't with you?" Lucas asked, receiving a smack to the shoulder from Max. "What? What did I say this time?"

"I'll tell you later," Max said, rolling her eyes and walking over to the game.

"You seem a bit down, little Byers," Steve said, watching Will for a bit as they and Dustin trailed the quarreling couple. "Step right up and tell Dr. Stevie everything."

"I don't think you'll be able to help," Will said, walking over to one of the games and inserting an arcade chip in it.

"Try me," Steve said, leaning against the game machine with arms folded nonchalantly over his chest. "I'm good at solving any problem, right, Henderson?"

"He's good," Dustin said, nodding from the other side of Will's game machine. "He helped me with that little Dart incident."

"When Dart ate your cat, Mewes?" Will asked, firing away at the invaders in the game.

"Yes," the curly-haired boy nodded, looking as if his dark-haired friend had just asked the stupidest question ever. "But he's also been helpful outside of dangerous situations too. He's great with hair advice."

"But I don't need hair advice," Will said, watching in horror as his game ended with him being blown up. "This is something different. Something you wouldn't understand, Dustin."

"Problems in the romantic department, huh?" Steve said, nodding sagely as Dustin took over the game controls and start playing. "I've had my fair share of those too. I mean I didn't even know I was in a love triangle with Nancy and Jonathan until Max pointed it out to me."

Will gave the older boy a pointed look as if this proved his point that Steve Harrington wouldn't understand his problem.

"Look, I know girls and they may seem like they aren't interested right away…."

"It's not a girl problem," Will said, cutting Steve off. He looked around them wishing that this conversation could just end without him having to spill his secret crush on Mike.

"It's your mom still being clingy about what happened the few years, isn't it?" Steve said, winking at Will. "She'll probably chill out once a year or two more pass without incident. She's been through as much as we have, right?"

Will nodded, wanting to ask Steve why he'd winked at him. It wasn't as though Steve hadn't said something that was true. Will's mom had been super clingy since the last time they'd dealt with the upsidedown. She didn't think that it was over and was watching and waiting for the next time that it would come for him.

"Walk with me," Steve said, steering Will away from Dustin after mouthing we'll be right back. They'd walked over to where Robin was filling a cup of soda for one of the patrons. "So, what's the deal?"

"What?"

"You looked like you wanted to say something back there. When I mentioned girl problems. What's the deal?"

Will looked around desperately for a way out and was thankful when one was provided by Robin smacking Steve in the back of the head.

"Stop torturing him, Doofus," she said, turning to Will. "You have to stop torturing yourself." She held up a hand as Will started to say something. "I know that look on your face. I've had the same look on my face for years. I hadn't even admitted it out loud to anyone until recently and Steve has been my wingman ever since."

"Ow!" Steve shouted, rubbing the back of his head. "For someone who is happy to have me as a wingman, you sure smack hard."

"I'm sorry, Doofus," Robin said, smacking him softer this time. "Was that better?"

"Yeah." He then raised an eyebrow in question. "What are you saying? That Will Byers is…."

"I'm not saying anything. Just making an observation and giving the advice that you and his friends should give him." Robin turned back to Will and leaned forward resting arms against the counter and looking at him sincerely. "Look, you have to just be open and honest with whoever it is that has you feeling like this. It probably won't be easy and if it is who I think it is, it might rock the boat a bit. But you'll feel better in the end. Who knows he might even feel the same way that you feel and be afraid to admit it too."

"Don't you mean she?" Will asked, feeling his face both turn scarlet and blanch at the same time.

"No. Just sleep on it. Alright? Things will be more clearer in the morning."

Steve ordered sodas for the group which Robin said were on the house. He then led Will back to where Dustin was still playing the game.

"What did she by he?" Steve asked in a whisper. "Are you like Robin?"

"Like Robin?"

"Her having a crush on Tammy Tompson, like that," Steve said, watching as Will's face turned scarlet this time. "You are. So which one of them is it?"

"No one," Will said, trying to walk faster.

"I know it's not Lucas," Steve said, a deep look of thought coming over his face. "It's certainly not Henderson. Max and El are out because of their…" His eyes widened in shock as he stopped Will and turned the smaller boy to face him. "You love Mike Wheeler, don't you?"

"What?" asked a shocked voice from behind Steve.

Will felt a cold shock of something go down his spine as he looked past Steve and could see Mike standing there in open-mouthed shock. Once more he found himself flee a place that he'd once found safe and friendly. Once more he rode without care of his own safety or that of others. He just wanted to get home and forget about this day. He kind of wished that he could have a do-over.

"You're home early?" his mother said, standing in the entryway to the kitchen. "Is everything alright?"

He shook his head. Tears finally streaming down his face freely. He had seen the shocked look on Mike's face when Steve had said what he'd said. That most definitely meant that he didn't feel the same way that Will did. How was he going to be able to face his friends or anyone else in Hawkins?

"What's wrong?" His mother motioning him to follow her into the kitchen and sit at the small table.

"Everything," he said, launching into the story of his day. "Then Steve Harrington just goes and blurts out that I love Mike. Right in front of Mike and Mike so shocked that I knew he didn't feel the same way. I just ran."

"I'm sure he cares a lot about you too," his mom said, trying to be comforting but not really understanding what he was saying. "You just sleep on it and I'm sure that by tomorrow everything will be normal again."

Will did a double-take. His mom had been the second person to tell him to sleep on his decision to tell Mike Wheeler how he really felt about the other boy. The first being Robin before Steve had said what said and Will had made his dramatic exit.

"What?"

"Nothing," Will said, putting his head in his hands. "Maybe I should sleep on it and tomorrow I can go and talk to Mike about things."

His mom nodded. "Now do you want to help me get dinner ready?" she asked, smiling and motioning to the stove.

"No, thanks, mom," he said, wiping his eyes and getting up. "I think I might try and take a nap before dinner."

"Alright," she said sounding concerned for him.

Will walked into his room and crashed across his bed and fell flat to sleep. Which was something rather strange for him. He usually wasn't this sleepy in the afternoon. Not during the summer. As he slept the strange chanting words of the woman he'd almost hit with his bike started ringing in his head.

"Are we boring you, man?" Mike's voice asked, causing Will's heart to jump into his mouth. Had Mike come over to confront him about what had happened at the arcade? He was pretty sure his mom would have called if that was the case.

He sat up and took a look around him at his surroundings. He could feel the color drain out of his face. He wasn't at home anymore. He was sitting in Mike Wheeler's basement with Mike and El. They were cuddled together on the basement couch and looked very confused about something.

"This isn't happening," he whispered to himself. "This isn't happening. It's just a bad nightmare. I'll pinch myself to prove it." He took a huge pinch of sink between his thumb and forefinger and squeezed. A yelp escaped his mouth as he did so. "Oh no."

"Will, you alright?" Mike asked, concern coloring his voice as he and El both walked over to Will. "You look like…."

"Nothing's wrong," Will said, pushing his face to look like it normally did. "I'm alright."

"Are you sure?" El asked, leaning closer as though she was looking at something fascinating and not just Will Byers.

"Something strange is happening," Will said, looking between the two. "Don't you two feel like we've been here before?"

"Yeah," Mike said, sounding like Will was off his rocker or something like that. "We usually hang around my basement until we figure out what we're doing. By the way, do you want to go to a movie with El, and me?"

Will felt a cold dread envelop him. The arcade. He would definitely take Steve Harrington up on his offer of advice this time. But for right now he had to find a way to get to the arcade without the consequences of the last time happening. But how?

I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of Will Byers and the Neverending Day as much as I enjoyed writing it.
