Meeting an angel
Nicole's POV
Deputy Nicole Haught finds herself driving to Shorty's bar nervous as hell. "Ok Haught. You can do this. Just say Hello and go from there." Nicole sees herself in the rear view mirror and just keeps muttering the same words again and again.
Minutes later she arrives at Shorty's. She looks through the double doors and sees that it's open. "Hm guess she's in early for her shift."
She sees barmaid Waverly Earp cleaning up, but doesn't say anything. "She's so beautiful.", Nicole thinks. "Ok, let's do this.".
All of a sudden Waverly is being splashed by beer from the tap. Nicole can't help but laugh a little at her beautiful crush. "Even messy, she looks perfect."
"Ahh! Jesus! Argh! Perfect." Waverly says out loud while turning off the old taps that have just covered her in beer. "I didn't know Shorty's had wet t-shirt competitions." Nicole says after mustering up the courage to actually talk to Waverly. "You ok?" She says smiling. "Yeah, I, uh, just a bit jumpy. Had a crazy night." Waverly says as she grabs a towel and starts drying herself off.
Nicole walks toward the bar and puts her Stetson on the counter. "Sorry I wasn't here to see it." Nicole thinks to herself "Ok this is going good, just keep the conversation going and don't stare at her wet t-shirt. Don't want her thinking I'm a creeper or something." After a few seconds Nicole says out loud "I've been, uh. I've been meaning to introduce myself. I'm Nicole, Nicole Haught." Nicole gives Waverly her most charming smile and shakes her hand.
"Hi!" Waverly says. "And you are Waverly Earp." "Yes.", Waverly confirms as if Nicole hasn't been thinking about her since she first heard her name. "Quite a popular girl around here." Nicole hopes that her charm is working. Waverly being the cute angel that she is says "Oh, you know, it's all in the smile and wave." "Yes it is." Nicole thinks. "Yeah. Can I get a cappuccino to go?" even though Shorty's doesn't open until noon. "Oh, I'm really sorry. Um, we're not actually open yet so.." says Waverly looking around making sure Nicole notices.
"Oh! Right! Again, my bad. It's that, uh, when I see something I like I don't wanna wait. And your door was open so.." Smooth Nicole like always. Waverly realizes that it is open and reminds herself that she needs to close it before another revenant shows up. "Right. Oh, God I'm sopping wet." They both laugh and Waverly thinks "That sounded a little wrong, but let's just move on." "You know, I keep telling Shorty he needs to fix the darn taps. Sorry do you mind just, uh, turning around?"
Nicole turns her back to Waverly to give her space to change "Of course she's gonna ask you to turn around. You're still a stranger to her, but next time maybe I won't be. I hope" Waverly feeling a little self-conscious attempts to take her shirt off, but it gets stuck. "Oh! Crap! Um, uh, officer I'm stuck so..." Nicole moves over to the other side of the bar to assist Waverly. "Oh! Let me help you." Such luck for Nicole, she meets her crush and gets the chance to take her shirt off on the same day. In her head she is skyrocketing with joy.
"Oh, God. Good job you're not some guy, right, or this would be really, really awkward." Waverly says feeling more exposed and covering her chest with the same cloth she was using to dry the shirt. Nicole just looks happy to be there while Waverly is struggling a bit to look Nicole in the eye. "Um, I owe you one." says Waverly. "Alright, well how about you buy me that cup of coffee? How about tonight?" Nicole says, thinking their first date should be calm after what just happened.
"Oh, I can't. No. I mean, I'd love to, like, like to, uh, but I have plans." Nicole looks a bit disappointed. "Yeah. I'm a planner. Like to know what I'm doing at least two or three days in advance." Nicole doesn't push it, but thinks that if she said to get coffee in the next few days Waverly might have said yes.
Waverly panics and says "I'm in a relationship...with a boy. Man." She corrects herself. "A boy-man." Nicole says mischievously. "Yup. I've been there. It's the worst." Nicole gets the crumpled up presentation card that she had in her pocket for the last few days hoping to find the occasion to give it to Waverly, puts it on the counter and grabs her hat.
"Well! Some other time!" she heads towards the door and looks back at Waverly. "I mean it." She puts on her Stetson and leaves hoping to have left a very good first impression or at least inciting Waverly's curiosity. Waverly grabs the card from the counter and looks at Nicole's name. "Officer Haught...of course" she looks back at the door hoping that she and Nicole will see each other again soon.
