Resurrection of the Daleks
Chapter One. Prologue
The Doctor, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan, Peri, Turlough and Varsh were all holding on to the console of the TARDIS control room after the TARDIS was juddering out of control after Nick Fury had sent them on their way. This would result in Turlough and Adric to crash into opposite sides of the control room. Tegan and Nyssa went to help out the ginger boy and the younger Alzarian respectively. It also caused Peri to fall to the floor but Varsh managed to catch her before she could completely hit the floor.
"What's that?!" Peri exclaimed as Varsh was helping her up.
"Beats me." Adric answered as Nyssa helped him up.
"Are you alright?" Tegan asked Turlough as she helped him up.
"I can't free the TARDIS from the Time Corridor!" the Doctor exclaimed.
"Is there anything you can do?" Peri asked.
"No." the Doctor answered, "too much turbulence. Hold on."
The time lord and his companions braced themselves, standing up.
"Things must stabilize soon." the Doctor continued. He pressed a button and then it caused him to stumble to another area of the control room. Then the group regrouped back at the control room.
"Doctor," Adric announced, "we're weaving in time."
"Yes, yes," the Doctor replied, "I know."
"Can't we materialize?" Peri asked.
"No." Nyssa answered, "not till we're free of the time corridor. We risk break up."
"Is that true?" Tegan asked.
"Not if I have anything to do with it!" the Doctor exclaimed. The companions scattered across the control room. Then the cloister bell tolled.
"Oh no." Tegan groaned.
"It could be worse." Nyssa told her best friend.
"Nyssa's right you know." Adric added.
"Don't remind me how it could be worse." Tegan told her friends. She then walked over to the Doctor and asked, "What are we waiting for?"
"The right moment." the Doctor answered, "The time stress on the TARDIS varies greatly. I'm waiting for the right moment to break out of the Time Corridor."
"Is this a way Nick Fury sends a Time Lord off?" Varsh asked in annoyance. He looked at Adric as he was annoyed about how the week had been going. First, the Master had his actual brother while the others were with a clone of Adric ever since his capture at the hands of the Master and the Rani after Turlough was discovered to have been working for the Black Guardian, then, it had been discovered that his younger brother was the host of the being known as Homeostasis and now this.
"No." the Doctor assured the older Alzarian, "I assure you that Fury has nothing to do with what is going on here at this moment. You may be annoyed at the moment, but things will get better as things go on."
"Can I get to my room?" Peri asked.
"Me too." Tegan added, "We feel sick."
"Too late." the Doctor told the two women, "Hold on."
The TARDIS started to tilt and shake rapidly.
"Hold on." the Doctor told all of his companions.
Suddenly, the TARDIS was shaking so much that everything had become blurred.
"Doctor," Tegan called out, "I can't stand much more."
"Hold on!" the Doctor replied.
Within moments, the TARDIS stopped shaking and things were back to normal, bringing the group with relief.
"We're free." the Doctor announced.
"Is it over?" Adric asked.
"For the moment." the Doctor answered, "Are you all right?"
"Yes." Tegan answered, "I think so."
"Me too." Nyssa nodded.
"Same goes for me." Adric added.
"And me." Peri
"Ditto." Varsh sighed in annoyance, "I don't get why Adric puts up with your antics."
"What kind of antics?" the Doctor quipped, facing the older Alzarian.
"Well," Varsh replied, "Ever since the Balance pulled me out of my timeline, Adric has been kidnapped and cloned by the Master and the Rani."
He pointed towards Turlough, "Ginger Idiot here caused Natasha Romanov to sacrifice herself to save my brother little did she know the Master had him cloned and captive all this time."
"Varsh, please." Adric groaned, not pleased with his older brother's attitude. Nyssa gave her lover the gesture of suggestion that he should turn his head in embarrassment as she was also annoyed with the older Alzarian's behavior.
"Then during our encounter with Nick Fury at SWORD," Varsh continued, "We find out Adric has been cloned all this time and at the Master's hands, and learn Adric is the host to this thing called Homeostasis. What else could my brother get into?!"
"Hey!" Adric exclaimed, starting to get mad.
"You are getting out of line, mister!" Tegan added.
"I agree." the Doctor stepped forward, facing the older Alzarian, "I understand your frustrations, truly I do, but I am getting tired of your smart ass attitude."
Varsh huffed in annoyance.
"He could have kindly left me out of the conversation." Turlough spoke up.
"Doctor," Nyssa interrupted the dramatic foil as she looked at the screen, "we're traveling parallel to the Time Corridor."
"Where are we going?" Peri asked.
"Twentieth Century Earth it seems." Nyssa answered.
The TARDIS materialized on Butler's Wharf.
"Have you calculated where we are?" Tegan asked.
"Well," the Doctor explained, "the instruments are still affected by the turbulence, but I think it's 1984. London."
He pressed a few buttons before exclaiming, "Found it!"
"Doctor?" Adric looked at the Time Lord with confusion.
"Where are you going?" Turlough asked.
"The Time Corridor." the Doctor answered, "I want to find out what all this is about."
The Time Lord stepped out of the TARDIS first. Then, the companions grouped together as they needed to figure out who would accompany the Doctor and who would stay behind.
"I don't know about you guys," Varsh told his fellow companions, "but I am staying in this TARDIS. There's no telling what will happen with the Doctor."
"Good idea." Adric replied, "The Doctor is getting fed up with your bad attitude lately. Even I have noticed it."
"I'm going to my room to..." Turlough announced before leaving the control room, "think things through."
Adric, Varsh and the girls each shared a sigh as the ginger companion left the control room.
"Tegan," Nyssa looked at her best friend, "I think that you should stay here at the TARDIS with Varsh and Turlough."
"What?!" Tegan exclaimed in annoyance.
"The last thing the Doctor wants is to have two companions by themselves in a kill or be killed situation," Nyssa explained, "Who else could be capable of putting them in their place?"
Tegan sighed in annoyance as Nyssa, Adric and Peri left the TARDIS to accompany the Doctor.
Author's Note: I created this rewrite of the story "Resurrection of the Daleks" as the Fifth Doctor's penultimate story in the Coexistenceverse, playing out a few possibilities in the story, including Adric and Nyssa encountering the Daleks, something the characters in question never done in a televised story. Nyssa has in Big Finish audios and that could possibly be the case with Adric starting next year, I think, from what I heard.
Author's Commentary: "Tegan," Nyssa looked at her best friend, "I think that you should stay here at the TARDIS with Varsh and Turlough."
I'm pretty certain that Tegan would object to staying behind with two companions who she trusts the least. It's equal to Rick Gordon of the cartoon "Defenders of the Earth" having to be stuck with Kshin and/or Zuffoids. Pure annoyance.
