AUTHOR: Hello everyone. This fanfiction I plan to turn into an animation (hopefully that'll happen). This story was inspired by GTV Japan's Dr. Mario Manga.
I follow most of the story, with some twists in it. All characters belong to Nintendo. Enjoy!
It's a sunny late afternoon and Ludwig is in the castle mixing potions. He chuckles with evil laughter. Bowser stands behind him and examines.
"Is it done yet?" Bowser asked raising an eyebrow.
"Almost! Just five more minutes!" Ludwig exclaimed.
(Sighs) "This better be worth it! Or I'll take it out of your pay!" Bowser barked.
"Oh, but it will be my evil master!" Ludwig said reassuringly.
Bowser checks his watch. Five minutes have passed.
"Is it finally complete?" Bowser asked.
"Yes! I believe it finally is!" Ludwig said happily.
"YES! NOW I CAN INFECT THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM AND PRINCESS PEACH WILL BE MINE!" Bowser cheered with heavy excitement.
"I have done it, King Dad!" Ludwig embraced.
Evil laughter has filled the room.
"Now, I just need a disguise in order to enter the expo. Any ideas?" Bowser asked.
"What about that pink crown? It'll turn you into a girl." Ludwig replied.
"You mean the Peachette crown? Yes, I shall use that to my advantage." Bowser said menacingly.
He puts the crown on his head and transforms into Bowsette.
(Giggles) "I'll be back." Bowsette said in a flirtatious voice.
At the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach is holding a Flower Expo.
"Dear fellow citizens, the day has come to show off your lovely flower arrangements! Toadsworth and I will both be judging! This will be based on pattern, color, and structure!" Princess Peach exclaimed.
She walks off stage and everyone goes back to minding their own businesses.
"The Flower Expo looks great, Princess!" Mario cheered.
"Glad to hear from you, Mario! But where is Toad and Luigi?" Peach asked.
"Well, Toad and Toadette planned their date up WEEKS in advance, not thinking about this. But, I'm sure they will stop by. Luigi is working at his job with E. Gadd, catching ghosts." Mario explained.
"Ah, I see. Well, I could sure use another judge. Will you help me?" Peach asked.
"Of course!" Mario said excitedly.
"I also have something incredible to show you, Mario! All the funding of the Flower Expo will go to strengthening our security here at the Mushroom Kingdom! Shows more security guards. We are also using the money to fund major pollinator-friendly gardens! Shows her courtyard. And last but not least, the Mushroom Kingdom General Hospital is getting funds to do an experiment." Peach explained.
"Wow Princess! This is great! I never heard of this "experiment" mind if I take a look?" Mario asked.
"Sure! But I suggest you come back later. You don't have your doctor clothes on!" Peach exclaimed.
"True true..." Mario replied.
"I think tomorrow will work." Peach said.
"Yes, I work at the hospital tomorrow so that will work out." Mario smiled.
"Great! See you then!" Peach said happily.
Peach walks away. Then a mysterious figure approaches. A lady wearing a purple hoodie walks upfront with a bouquet of piranha plants. Her hands seem scaly, and it appears that she has horns on her head. Mario begins to ask questions as he feels something suspicious is going on.
"Who are you? May I please see some ID ma'am?" Mario asked.
"Why, certainly!" The lady exclaimed.
She lifts up her hoodie, revealing her face, whilst taking the crown off, ultimately revealing Bowser in disguise. He releases the viruses and instantly people become infected with uncontrollable laughter. Mario runs away from the scene, covering his mouth in an effort to prevent becoming infected. He rushes into his house. He grabs his doctor equipment and immediately begins working on a cure. Meanwhile, Luigi notices him.
"Hey bro." Luigi said.
"Aren't you still supposed to be at work?" Mario asked.
"Well, I got off an hour early. E. Gadd said I had done enough for one day. What's the commotion outside?" Luigi asked.
"It's Bowser! He ruined our flower expo! Now people are sick!" Mario explained.
"Call me Dr. Mario." He said.
Mario puts on his doctor clothes on and peaks under the microscope. He found the cure shortly after.
Dr. Mario goes outside and runs into Nurse Peach.
"There you are Dr. Mario!" Nurse Peach exclaimed.
"I have good news. I have found a cure! We give one pill per person." Dr. Mario explained.
"Got it." Nurse Peach said.
Nurse Peach stood at the opening of the hospital with a megaphone.
"Citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom! We have a cure to riddance your germs!" Nurse Peach said proudly.
Almost immediately, all the mushroom citizens gathered. Everyone got a single pill. Thankfully, no one accidentally overdosed on any of the medication. Health was restored to all of the people, and after a long day, Mario was finally home. But there is still big trouble headed his way, much worse than before. Mario and Luigi watched the news in relief that the outbreak was over.
At Bowser's Castle, Ludwig and Bowser are both angry.
"How could this happen!? YOU HAD ONE JOB!" Bowser barked.
"I'm sorry! I will come up with something! I promise!" Ludwig said desperately.
"You better!" Bowser said angrily.
It's nighttime at Mario's House as Luigi walks over to close the window.
Mario looked up, and noticed an 'M' on Luigi's nightcap.
"Say Luigi... is that my nightcap you are wearing?" Mario asked.
"Yep, and it's the same reason why you have my wrench." Luigi remarked.
"Fine." Mario said annoyed.
While this is happening, the very last virus remains and suddenly mutates into 3 superbugs. The viruses jump and land into Luigi's glass of ice water, which he swallows. All seemed good... for now...
It's daylight at 7 am in the morning and Luigi lets out a painful screech. Hearing his cry, Mario is startled and rushes to Luigi's aid. Luigi is lying in bed in immense pain. His eyes are shut as he continuously flinched.
"Luigi! Are you alright!?" Mario asked worried.
"No Mario... I don't feel so good." Luigi said.
"Luigi?... Luigi?!" Mario asked in concern.
"I feel like I'm on fire right now... it hurts." Luigi said softly.
"You're feeling very warm. Let me go get the thermometer." Mario replied.
Mario rushed into the bathroom and opened the mirror, which laid the thermometer. He came back and noticed Luigi twitching in response to pain. Mario rushed in with the thermometer. Beep beep beep beep. The thermometer went off with its iconic sound. Mario carefully read Luigi's face, which said it all.
"It's that bad, huh?" Mario asked.
"103.6 F..." Luigi turned his body away from Mario.
"I think it's in your best interest to go to the hospital. I'm a doctor. I can help you." Mario while putting on his doctor outfit.
"Mario..." Luigi said softly.
His face is as pale as a ghost. Suddenly, Luigi blacks out and loses consciousness.
"Luigi!? LUIGI!" Dr. Mario squalled.
Dr. Mario instantly picks up the phone and urgently dials Nurse Peach.
At the hospital, Nurse Peach is quietly sitting at her desk with Toad until the phone rings.
"Hello, this is the Mushroom Kingdom General Hospital. What is your emergency? Ah, Dr. Mario! What!?... He's sick!? Yes, I will bring an ambulance! Alright, bye." Nurse Peach hangs up.
Toad watches in shock.
"What's wrong?" Toad asked.
"It's Luigi. He has a high fever." Nurse Peach said.
"Can I help?" Toad asked.
"Sure, but you got to be quick and follow orders." Nurse Peach said.
They both got into the ambulance and left for Mario's house.
Once Nurse Peach and Toad arrived, they were shocked by Luigi's condition. His body was trembling and aching as the deadly viruses rampaged through his body.
"When did he not start feeling well?" Nurse Peach asked.
"When he first woke up, which was 7 am." Dr. Mario answered.
Nurse Peach looked at Dr. Mario.
"His temperature rose that quickly!?" Nurse Peach asked alarmed.
"Yeah. That's why I called you. Plus, he's currently unconscious." Dr. Mario looked around.
"We're going to get Luigi taken care of. Toad, will you please open the doors?" Peach asked.
"Yes your majesty." Toad said.
He rushed to the front door and the ambulance doors and opened them. Luigi was on the stretcher being pushed to the ambulance by Dr. Mario and Nurse Peach. At the hospital, Luigi was lying in bed, unconscious.
"I can't believe it. How can someone healthy like Luigi fall prey to something so horribly ill?" Nurse Peach said puzzled.
"Well, that's the point. Viruses will attack people who have lots of healthy cells. They use the cells to make copies of themselves. Viruses don't "want" to kill. Just like any living life form out there, their goal is to survive and reproduce." Dr. Mario explained.
"Makes sense. But did you try that medicine from yesterday? It might just work for him." Nurse Peach asked.
"No, but I will try." Dr. Mario answered.
Just as he turned around and whipped out a jar of colorful pills, Luigi regained his conscious. He looked at Dr. Mario, then came the giggles, and then the laughter. Dr. Mario chucked two of the pills into Luigi's mouth, but to no avail. Luigi laughed continually, enough to make his lungs hurt. Breathing was already excoriating at this point.
"Help!... Dr. Mario! I can't... breathe! It hurts!" Luigi laughed painfully as he heavily breathed.
"Luigi! Luigi, it's okay! You'll be fine! I promise! Just hang in there!" Dr. Mario said in a reassuring tone.
"He's getting worse. What about Luigi's boss, E. Gadd? He's a scientist. Surely he will know what to do." Nurse Peach said.
"Perhaps. Toad! Bring me E. Gadd! We need his help!" Dr. Mario ordered.
"Of course!" Toad ran out of the room.
While Toad left the room, Nurse Peach directed Dr. Mario to the "experiment."
"Dr. Mario. Let me show you the experiment I was talking about. Nurse Peach walked down the hall with Dr. Mario trailing behind her. Introducing the Laboratory! Let me show you a few things here. First, this is a shrink ray. It can shrink anything to microscopic size!"
"Um, Peach, how long does the shrink ray last before wearing off?" Dr. Mario asked.
"It doesn't! It's powered by 5 mini mushrooms! You stay small! But don't worry! A bite out of the red mushroom and you're back to normal!" Nurse Peach explained. And here is the beloved submarine. We are hoping to one day explore the human body! It can calculate the current body temperature, blood pressure, as well as detect infections throughout the body! With the consent of the patient of course!" Nurse Peach replied.
"Amazing! And you just gave me a brilliant idea." Dr. Mario smirked.
"What?" Nurse Peach asked.
"How about we go inside of Luigi?" Dr. Mario asked.
"I don't know about that Dr. Mario. The submarine is supposed to do these things, but we haven't even tested it out yet. What if it's not safe?" Nurse Peach asked.
"Listen. I don't want to live with the fact that I could've saved my brother just by shrinking microscopic size and entering his body to defeat viruses. Dr. Mario replied. What if this is the ONLY way to save Luigi?" Dr. Mario asked.
"Alright, we'll give it a try. But your brother has to agree with what we're going to do." Nurse Peach replied.
"Man, too bad Dr. Waldo Bloom isn't here. Too busy playing damn golf. He would be so proud of this place!" Dr. Mario exclaimed.
"Did he retire?" Nurse Peach asked.
"Well, kind of. He's busy trying to break a record. Anyway, he gave me his doctor coat." Dr. Mario replied.
"That was very nice of Dr. Bloom to give you his coat!" Nurse Peach smiled.
"Indeed it was." Dr. Mario grinned.
At Bowser's Castle, Ludwig is spying on the Mario Bros.
"Hey King Dad. I think we got one of the Mario Bros. sick!" Ludwig grinned.
"Which one!?" Bowser asked eagerly.
"The green one." Ludwig said.
Bowser frowned in disappointment. He was hoping it was Mario that was sick. He was still happy however, considering that it was even one of them.
At the hospital, Luigi is in a big operating laboratory room, filled with computers. Dr. Mario points Luigi to a laid-back chair. Luigi sat in shock when he seen his boss standing in front of him.
"E. Gadd! What are you doing here!?" Luigi asked in shock. Luigi felt his throat beginning to tickle again. He knew the painful laughter was about to start.
"A little bird told me you were extremely sick. I'm here to help you feel better." E. Gadd replied.
Toad shyly waves at Luigi.
"TOAD!? DAMN FUNGUS TOAD!" Luigi squalled. Luigi lost control and suddenly bursted out in laughter.
"Hey, I need you to look at this. I want to make sure you are onboard with this. But let me be clear, this could be your only lifesaving option." Dr. Mario handed an agreement paper to Luigi.
Luigi finally settles down and glances at the paper, in his disbelief.
"Seriously!? You are pulling my leg right now." Luigi said giggling.
"Seriously." Dr. Mario replied.
"Ugh, fine." Luigi said annoyed.
