Morning. The most accursed time of day. Oh it was beautiful no doubt, none could deny that, but it brought with it a host of troubles. Chief among them were the noises of the birds. Their incessant cawing was a burden to those that slept lightly. For example, the woman who was in bed with her husband. Annoyingly being awoken by those early morning pests. She'd find a way to sleep again by nuzzling up against her husband and hearing his calm, measured breaths and his steady heartbeat until she fell asleep again.
Second, the morning sun. The creeping light would slowly crawl up the muscled body of the husband until it fell onto his face and ever so slowly would wake him up. He'd flicker his eyes down where his wife was curled up against him, then he'd smile and put his head back down. Then he'd tighten his hold and comfortably watch her sleep. Cute black and red hair shifting just a bit each time a breath was taken. He'd fall doze off again watching his wife sleep contentedly.
Third, and worst of all, was the combination of the weekends and morning. Blessed were the weekends that they could sleep in. Unfortunately, this was not such a day.
"MOOOOM, DAAAAD! IT'S STARTING!"
Groaning, Jaune and Ruby rolled around at the jolting sounds of their children calling for them. They got all tangled up in their sheets trying to get up and attend to the needs of their kids. Ruby was the first to free herself, barely registering her husband's weak and tired cries for help. "Coming!" Ruby said in a feeble attempt to assuage them.
Shuffling around like a zombie, Ruby made her way to the master bedroom's restroom to start her morning routine. Her red black hair, usually so vibrant, was a mess. Ruby began fixing up her bed hair when Jaune finally crept into the room, his eyes barely open and his hair a jungle of bright yellow blond. "Good morning," Ruby murmured to her husband. Jaune came up and wrapped his hands around her waist. Both were still half asleep. Jaune pecked at his wife, his lips peppering her neck for a moment before stepping back. Ruby was flushed, but was just so tired that all she could do was hum contentedly.
"Good morning to you too." Jaune moved over to his sink to brush his teeth and do his hair. Both had to change out of their sleepwear too. Jaune was first, changing out of his blue and brown into a nice shirt.
"Today's the Vytal Festival, right?"
Ruby answered half-heartedly while brushing her teeth. "Mmmmhm."
"DAD IT'S STARTING! HURRY UP!!"
"I'll go rescue them" he told Ruby, giving her a kiss on the cheeks as he rushed out to take care of the kids. Ruby smiled as he went out. "Love you!" she croaked, slowly leaving her morning-mode.
"Love you too!" Jaune said before disappearing into the living room.
Ruby just loved how reliable he was with the kids. Among many things she loved about her husband. His kindness, his handsome face, his loyalty, his dorkiness, his butt. All were reasons she loved being Jaune's wife.
But by the brothers she didn't expect how much rising in the mornings would change after giving birth. They used to be the best time of day! She and Jaune used to get up to all sorts of stuff in the morning when they were dating! Then even when they married! Somehow having kids made mornings into this!
Gah, adulthood. She cursed as she finally got over the post child-awakening part of her morning. Dressing into something casual and red, she made her way out of the bedroom and to their family living room.
Already she could smell the patented hubby breakfast. "Mom! Mom! Come watch with us! Aunt Weiss is announcing!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Ruby strolled over to Jaune, who was finishing up the family breakfast, and she gave him a big kiss on the cheeks. Jaune beamed and flipped some eggs in his pan.
"They're getting restless. You missed the first match and now they want to hear Vytal Stories from our days!"
"Oh not again!"
Jaune laughed and returned her kiss, this time on the lips. His lips on hers never ceased to be blissful. "You go on ahead. I'm almost done."
Ruby smiled and went over to her daughter's, Pyrrha and Penny, who were bustling with the energy and excitement of children multiplied by the fact that they were a huntsman and huntresses children.
Despite the change in how she rose during mornings, seeing her kids happy, being with her husband in their home together, that really did make rising in the morning worth all the headaches in the end.
Ruby knew that for sure.
A/N: Quick little fic for 9 Days of Lancaster week. Lancaster has really taken over for me now as my favorite ship in RWBY. A surprise for some, given how much I vocally expressed my love for Arkos, time changes things I suppose. I still enjoy the ship, simply just not as much as I used to. It just isn't really up there for me anymore.
My ship fics aren't the best, but I hope you liked this one.
