For the longest time she could remember Lilith was the best there was in the emperor's coven. Every mission ended in success and every achievement earned her praise and envy of those beneath her. There was only one small but vastly irritating torn in her side that threatened her very future. Her younger sister Edalyn. Ever since finding her in this city she has been hell bent on finally convincing her to give up her wild and reckless ways and embrace the emperor's coven. Of course, there was a small but intense part of her that wanted her to join to alleviate the guilt of the curse she placed on her.
But after nearly a dozen peaceful attempts Eda had once again shown not only a severe lack of any kind of sensibility but also common since. She could still remember the first time she'd found her in the wild and offered her a place in the coven and a end to her cure. Eda of course acted in her usual nature smacked it away and threw an unstable smoke potion while screaming. "I'll never be a follower!"
Leaning back in her chair and balling her fist as she stared out the window of her private room in Belos's castle she sighed. "Why in the titan's name would she take a human as an apprentice? They cannot even do magic! If she wanted to be a teacher all she had to do was join and I could have personally selected a dozen potentials for her to train. But no! she had to reject my offer yet again and make me look the fool in front of the covention. Lowering my guard by mentioning her curse then throwing food in my face and running off."
The emperor had been less than pleased that she' hadn't brought her sister in but had been intrigued by the human and forgone any kind of punishment as she'd assured her that because of the human she'd be forced to stay in Bonesburrow.
"At least I'm still the one in charge of hunting her. Not that anyone else could. She might be the most irresponsible and frustrating person I know but she at least has the magic to back up her boasting. When she finally joins, I'll make her my right hand and we'll once again be the mighty Clawthorne sisters."
Rising from her chair a small smile formed on her face. "And who knows with her attitude she might even knock that infernal demon kikimora down a peg. Finally, that little demon will know not to doubt or question me."
Looking at the clock she saw it was nearly time for her training session with Amity.
Mounting her staff, she took off into the sky flying high above the skies and over the forests seeing her faithful apprentice waiting at the gates of her private training grounds. One of the many perks of leading the emperor's coven. Only her and those she invited could enter or even get close.
Well, I suppose Belos could of course, but I've never actually seen him leave the castle. But then again when you're the most powerful witch on the Boiling isles and can create or destroy everything just by waving your hand you don't need to move much.
The moment she landed Amity eagerly beamed holding her books.
"Miss Clawthorne, I hope your day has been treating you well."
"Yes, Amity my day has been rather well. Now let us precede with your training."
Amity hadn't been her first apprentice, but she was by far the only one she liked. Although when she was first told she would be training the daughter of Odalia Blight she'd nearly blacked out from frustration. She was the absolute best example of the worst kind of noble. But where her mother was cunning Amity was curious, Where Odalia was self-centered and proud Amity was timid and lacking in self-esteem. Lilith quickly found herself enjoying training her. Not to mention the constant adoration she received was a nice bonus.
"Alright Amity today I'm going to teach you how to perform a slightly advanced mid-range teleportation spell." As she prepared the spell in her mind, she saw Amity try to speak up but then stop herself. Curious as to why she asked. "Is there something wrong Amity?"
"Well as much as I would like to learn this spell miss Clawthorne I was wondering if by chance you could teach me a healing spell?"
"I suppose I could, but I must ask why?"
She saw something flash in her young protégé's eyes before she quickly said. "Just sometimes I try new spells my siblings have learned and sadly there are minor accidents."
A memory flashed in her mind. She and Edaylin as children testing out fire spells.
"Lilith check this out twin fireballs!"
"Eda stop that you can barely control one you're going to burn your fingers!"
"I will not! Now watch me shoot them." Seconds later the fireballs dropped to the ground as Eda failed to launch them and as warned burned her palms.
"Alright I do know a few but keep in mind these are for minor wounds. Never try advanced spells without supervision."
Much like always the moment she began to teach the steps Amity became transfixed but snapped herself out to ask questions and write down the steps in her notebook as not to forget anything. When the two hours were up Amity thanked Lilith for her time and raced out of the training grounds. Lilith was about to leave when she noticed that in her excitement Amity had forgotten her bag.
"Children do easily forget things in their excitement." As she picked up the bag planning on catching the young girl her notebook fell out and opened up. At first Lilith was just going to put it back but then curiosity got the better of her.
"I know it's improper, but a small peak wouldn't hurt anything. Just a teacher making sure her student has properly recorded her notes."
And as she flipped through the pages that is exactly what she saw. Page after page of detailed notes on different spells or notes for school. But she caught something one page that intrigued her. In purple ink there was a series of notes and sentences.
"Today Luz loaned me the fifth book in the Azura series. Must remember to return and thank her."
The more she read the more and more diary like it became.
"First day of Scholl with Luz, hard to believe a human Is enrolled at Hexside."
She had to reread this just to be sure. "A human at Hexside? Principal Bump never informed us of this. A mere human that can't do magic in one of the greatest magic school in all the boiling isles is preposterous!"
Now fully invested she read on.
"Today Luz helped me with a bit of an incident involving Willow. We may never be friends again but at least we're not enemies. Once again Luz pulled of her own magic, really must find way to thank her. And maybe find a way to hang out with her more."
More entries came in went clearly showing the beginning of something. Turning to the next page she saw something that actually made her chuckle and let out a small "awwwww."
In bright purple ink were the letters A + L in a classic heart. "So, she has a little crush."
She saw that there were more entries but decided to simply read one more and stop intruding on private matters.
"Took Luz to my private swimming spot today. Can't believe she can make a swim top look cute... I mean The rest of the sentence looked to be erased and rewritten numerous times to the point of being illegible so she skipped to the next line. But she seemed a bit off. Her arm had what looked like a large claw mark on it. She played it off saying that little demon she lives with had gotten too excited during playtime. Maybe Lilith knows a healing spell I can use?"
She closed the book and put it back into the bag before flying into the sky toward the town. Amity had once told her she enjoys getting a snack at a well-known pastry shop on her way home. Lilith had even taken her there on more than one occasion.
Once on the ground and smirking as the citizens recognized her and backed away, she sought out Amity finding her waiting in front of the store.
"Amity I do believe you forgot this."
"By the titan I'm so sorry Miss Clawthorne I was just a bit excited it must have slipped my mind."
"It's no trouble my dear." Enticed by the scent of the sweets she made her way inside but kept an eye on the girl through the store window. Less than a few minutes later the dark-skinned human showed up and hugged her causing Amity to redden and smile. When she saw the multicolored tunic she wore more questions arose. That was something she'd have to discuss with principal Bump.
From inside the shop Lilith enjoyed her tea watching as the two girls enjoyed their own treats outside. Drawing a small circle and tapping her right ear Lilith heard their conversation.
"I discovered a new glyph today! Now I can turn things different colors." To prove this, she pulled out a piece a paper and turned her chocolate dessert bright yellow before taking a bite. "hhhmmm thought it would taste lemony."
Amity fidgeted in her seat for a moment before looking at Luz. "Luz I also learned a new spell. And well I know you said it was nothing, but I'd like to heal those marks on your arm. That is if you want, I really don't' want to impose." Lilith had to force herself not to chuckle as she watched the girl fidget in her seat while talking to her crush.
The human seemed unsure for a moment before rolling up her sleeve. She didn't get to see what happened next to do a few people moving between her and her view of the girls and sadly when she did get a clear view the girls were leaving.
Tapping her finger, she pondered something.
Perhaps I should keep an eye on this human. If I do this correctly, she could finally be the key that brings Eda to where she rightly belongs. But for right now I'll need information. And there's only one principal I know of that has what I need.
