"Rasengan!"
"Chdori!"
You've heard the story a million times, from a million different voices. The clash of their ultimate techniques. The blond kind-hearted hero and the dark haired, hard-hearted boy whom lost his way clashing against the each other in the middle of the Final Battle and I am here to once again - Whoa, whoa hold up now this isn't your conventional story and I will most definitely not be rehashing that battle again. What I offer to you, folks is something a little different. A story of two young men trying to find their way in a world that they know doesn't want them. Naruto, for, well you know the reason by now if you're reading this. And Sasuke, who can tell that the council and villagers do not care for him but only his status and the continuation of the Sharingan. Throw in a Kakashi that takes no one's shit in the pursuit of helping his boys grow and you have the recipe for...the template of every good Sasuke story in the history of ever.
I'm still going to try my best here to figure out things going forward and I want to make this abundantly clear, this will not be rehashing canon to any extend except for the background of Naruto being sealed with Kyuubi and the whole war thing. Also, I'm trying to figure out who a good fit with these two would be for the third member of their little squad as I don't particularly feel like my renditions of Naruto and Sasuke would suit having Sakura as their third piece and I, unlike a good majoirty of Naruto fans am not the biggest supporter of Hinata. Oh, if you've got this far then I suppose I owe you the next thing, while I'm not going to go out of my way to bash anyone and am going to TRY to have it so everyone is mostly amicable with each other please be aware that beginning arc Sakura has a personality that clashes with Sasuke's inherant nature and it will lead to some negative situations as you can probably guess. Final note: If it's not clear already, while I am uncertain of pairings right now, this WILL NOT BE a Naru/Hina, Sasu/Saku fic and if you're here for that please move along now as you'll save both me and yourself a lot of time. That being said, as long as it's not those two or for stupid reasons I am open to suggestions about that. Anyways, future ANs won't be this long, I just wanted to establish things first so you guys know what to expect a little bit before going forward with this.
Without further delay, I give you - the first chapter...
Disclaimer: Don't own Naruto, if I did, well, I'd have more money. xD

Chapter One: Friends, Even In The Darkest of Places
A soft breeze ruffled against the hair of a small boy whom was seated upon the bottom of the slide within the park. His soft, almost saddened gaze remained on the skyline as he watched the sun slowly descend into the horizon. His shoulders were raised and those dull eyes darted around every so often in every direction before they returned to their place watching the skyline before him. He leaned back slightly, placing his hands against the metal of the slide and his gaze drifted further upward into the sky.
"Would you look at that?"
The boy felt his blood run cold. He didn't think he'd stayed out too late this time. Usually, Naruto had to make sure that he was off the streets before nightfall. Perhaps he'd left it a little too long to go home but hopefully he would be able to escape and prevent any major damage. He went to turn, but the interrupted voice stopped him in his tracks.
"I do hope you aren't thinking about running, you disgusting creature."
Naruto's shoulders slumped and his face fell. He knew that there was no point in running. If he tried that then in the end it would only make matters worse when the villagers caught up to him in the end. Sure he had no end of hiding places to go and make himself scarce for a couple of days but even that length of time wouldn't be enough to abate the villagers' anger. It was better to just take it now and not risk further damage later. He clenched his fist tightly and prepared for the worst. The worst that he knew was coming...only, it didn't come.
"What the hell's going on here?"
The voice that had spoken wasn't one that Naruto recognized. He thought the villagers did though, because the moment the voice had spoken up the four men who had dscovered Naruto's location all took a quick step back from him as if they had been scalded. Hearing the shuffling behind him, Naruto finally turned around to face the speaker and his eyes could've popped right out of their sockets.
"ANBU-san?" Naruto questioned, his eyes full of inquiry.
"These people aren't giving you any trouble are they, Naruto?"
"N-not at all, ANBU-san!"
That answer was far too quick for the masked ANBU's liking. Judging by the boy's expression and posture he could guess that this occurrence wasn't an uncommon one and Naruto was likely trying to diffuse the situation so that the villagers didn't subject him to worse the moment the ANBU turned his back. This is what had become of the fourth's son? The man who had died for them? He knew that his sensei and Kushina would be disgusted to see how their son was being treated by the very same people that they had died to protect. What made matters worse was it looked like the third was paying absolutely no attention to it. That is what pissed the ANBU off the most. Hiruzen had been like a damned father to Minato and this was how he would treat sensei's son? To hell with that, something needs to be done about this. I need to find out more from the Hokage. Even if to just understand his reasons...and to inform him that I'm going to be taking the boy under my wing whether he likes it or not. However, it would be best not to raise Naruto's spirits too much in the mean time. But maybe I can do something to lessen his burden until my talk with the third.
"As long as you're sure," the ANBU said, his voice dripping with killing intent, "I'd hate to have to kill every single person here, you excluded, Naruto."
"What are you talking about?" One of the villagers snarled in the ANBU's direction, "You're threatening to kill us? For what? Putting the demon in his place? The council won't take too kindly to you treating civilians like this."
"Keep talking and you won't have a mouth to bitch at the council with," The ANBU said coldly, "Now, I will be watching so I suggest you pass on a message. If I detect this or similar happening again. I will personally attend to those responsible and believe me, I will not be as...forgiving as I have been today. Now, get out of my sight all of you."
The man had barely finished his sentence but already all of the civilians were evidently afraid of his wrath for they were already sprinting out of the park as fast as they could move. He knew that he was limited in what he could do on his own and just had to hope that what he had just done would serve as a warning to those who would try the same in the future. Naruto had backed up further against the frame of the slide and had his eyes locked on the figure, his cerulean pools laced with a fierce amount of distrust. Naruto gripped the slide fearfully, trying to keep as much distance between himself and the man as possible.
Anger flared in the man's eyes at this sight. There is no way a child should be looking this way, not at his or any other age. To see the fear in his eyes. To see that look as though he were going to hurt him in the same way the villagers had. Did Naruto think that he'd only gotten rid of the villagers so that he could have the opportunity to do what they were going to do to him instead?
I'm so sorry Sensei Minato, Kushina, I've failed your son. But that stops right now. I need to go and have a talk with old man third...after I make sure to get Naruto home safely. He might not like the suggestion so I have to do this carefully.
"Naruto?"
"Yes, ANBU-san?"
"Let's get you out of here, okay?"
Naruto rapidly shook his head, the fear evident in his eyes. By what the other man could tell he knew that going with him was absolutely the last thing that Naruto wanted to do right now and was probably waiting for him to leave so that he could find his own way home. He couldn't blame him for that. He doubted he'd be very forthcoming either if he was placed into Naruto's shoes for even a day let alone the amount of time that he had endured it. The man slowly dropped himself to a knee, hoping to get closer to Naruto's height by doing so and it was now that he spoke in a much softer, leveled voice.
"I'm not going to hurt you, kiddo," he said softly, "I'm not going to let anyone hurt you."
Naruto's hand trembled against the slide, but he slowly took a single step away from the frame and toward the man who had protected him from the latest attack at the hands of the villagers. He wasn't sure why, but somehow Naruto felt like he could trust that this person wouldn't hurt him at least in the immediate future and whilst he was inclined to be cautious around him, Naruto couldn't help but to be drawn to the man's calm demeanor.
"What do you want then?"
That earned a chuckle from the older man. It was nice to see that despite everything, Naruto's demeanor hadn't changed much. He still seemed like the person that the ANBU had to stop pulling pranks all the time. Perhaps those pranks were cries for help...the more he thought about it the more upset with himself the man became. How had he failed his sensei's son so badly?
"I want you to come back with me and get some rest. I'm sure they'll be looking for you in your apartment the moment I turn my back so I feel like it would be best if you came with me back to my own apartment for now. Though, I can imagine you'll be hesitant about it given everything that's happened to you and I will be more than understanding should you decide to decline my offer."
Silence hung in the air between the two and for a moment the only sound in the entire park was the calm breeze that was rustling through the foliage of the trees and the small whistle of the wind that rolled over the hidden leaf village. The ANBU remained silent, it was essential to give Naruto the time to process his offer and make sure that he truly didn't feel pressured into accepting his offer. If he were to decline, the ANBU would retreat. Either way, he would still be having words with the Third the moment this situation had reached its outcome.
Kakashi Hatake was done letting this happen.
End Chapter.
Hello everyone, I'm sorry that the chapter is so short, but this is more of a preview to let you know the general idea of what I have in store for this fic. I'm a little bit nervous about trying to write in a new fandom so hopefully you guys will like it enough and we can continue on this journey together. Hopefully you got something out of this despite the short length. I once again want to apologize for the spiel at the beginning I sorta penned it and it kept flowing xD Either way, See ya for now!
