Author's Note: Okay, so I was just rewatching LOK and my absolute adoration for the Kainora ship has been reawakened. So I decided to write these short stories! I was just thinking about how us fans were robbed of the cute moments for this ship in season 4 and I couldn't get these ideas out of my head, so here they are. Hope you enjoy reading this first one (even if it's a bit short) and don't worry, there'll be more after this ;)
DISCLAIMER: Sadly, I don't own Legend of Korra or any of its characters
It was nearing the end of winter on Air Temple Island, and Jinora was curled up with her boyfriend in the library. She took a cautious sip of the piping hot cocoa she was holding and snuggled closer to Kai. His side was nice and warm, a stark contrast to the temperature outside. It was one of those days where you thought you had left the snow and ice behind for the year, but all of a sudden, the cold came back to nip at your toes.
Jinora felt the blanket being pulled up and over her more and she looked to Kai. He was adjusting the blanket to make sure she was completely covered, and her eyes drifted to his now exposed feet. Her heart melted just like the marshmallows in her cup. Kai might like to seem all tough and unbothered, but she knew that he was really just a sweet cinnamon bun, all gooey and lovable on the inside.
"Hey," she said, resting her head on his shoulder. "Your feet are out." He looked down and shook his head.
"It's fine," he told her. "You were shivering. I'm not that cold anyway."
Jinora could tell that was a lie. "The goosebumps on your toes say otherwise."
"Shoot," he muttered under his breath. Jinora smiled as she watched him try his hardest to scrub away the little dots on his skin, and she tugged on his arm.
"Just put the blanket over your feet, you dummy," she laughed. "I won't be cold," she added when she saw his worried expression. "I have you to warm me up."
"Me?"
"In case you haven't noticed, you're kind of like a personal heater."
Kai smirked. "Is that all I am to you? A personal heater?"
"No," she slowly said, leaning up and softly kissing him. He sighed, a bit breathless, and it fluttered across her lips when she pulled back, leaving a tingling sensation where it touched. She sweetly smiled back at him. "You make a pretty good pillow, too."
Kai brightly laughed, reluctantly pulling some of the blanket so it would cover his feet before wrapping his arm around Jinora's shoulder and pulling her in. "Love you too, Jin."
And with just those four simple words, Jinora found she no longer felt the stinging bite of the chilly day.
