"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
Silence hung in the air for a moment.
"Mom? Say something."
Lorelai paused, trying to figure out how to translate the thoughts in her head into words. Unable to do so just yet she pulled her daughter in for a hug.
"Wow. I mean...just wow. I know you are a grown woman but my brain still thinks of you as my baby. My baby is having a baby."
"I'm having a hard time processing it myself. I mean this wasn't exactly planned."
"Neither were you but you turned out pretty damn good."
Rory pulled away from her mother's hug to wipe the tears from her eyes.
"Mom...it's Logan's."
Lorelai nodded, she has already assumed as much.
"What did he say?"
"He doesn't know…"
"Are you planning on telling him?"
"I don't know. I..I don't want to...I can't destroy another marriage mom. I just can't…"
"Oh, hun. You can't think of it like that. This is different, regardless of how you got here the fact is there is a kid this time. You need to decide what is best for the kid, and for you."
"That's just it. I don't know. I don't know what is best. I don't know anything about kids or how to be a mom! Mom, what if I can't do this?"
"You can do this. You know way more than I did when I had you."
"But what if I can't what if I am not cut out to be a mom?"
"Well, then I'll help you. You'll learn. It doesn't all come to you at once, parenting is kinda like a guessing game, you figure it out as you go."
"That sounds hard."
"It is hard, and messy and smelly and loud, but it's also amazing, and the best thing that can happen to a person. And your not in this alone kid. I'm here for you, Lukes here for you, and I'm sure your grandma will be happy to have a baby to spoil and Lane will be thrilled you are a parent now too, and Paris... Well, Paris might even let you borrow her nanny."
"But what do I do about Logan?"
"You know I can't tell you that kid. But you don't need to decide right now. You have time. You've got what, 8 months?"
"35 weeks."
"So your 5 weeks along, When did you find itout?"
"Two days ago."
"Wow."
"Can you stop saying that?"
"This is a good wow. This is wow, 35 more weeks till we get to welcome a new Gilmore to the world."
Rory smiled, "wow."
"Wow what?" They both jumped when they heard Luke's voice.
Lorelai looked at Rory, who nodded "tell him."
Lorelai stood and put her hand on Luke's shoulder. "It looks like we got married just in time."
"In time for what?"
"We're going to be grandparents!"
Luke blinked slowly, "We're going to be…" suddenly understanding dawned on his face and he smiled and looked at Rory, "You're…"
"I'm pregnant."
Luke shook his head, "wow."
"Yes, that does seem to be the general consensus."
Luke pulled Lorelai close with one arm and leaned forward to help Rorry up off the steps with his other hand. He pulled her in for a hug as well.
"Let's get you home. It's cool out here, that's can't be good for the baby."
Lorelai rolled her eyes "yes, hun let's get you home and wrap you in bubble wrap for the next 8 months."
"Who's the dad?" Luke asked as they began walking back to the house.
"Luke!" Lorelai glared at him, hoping he would get the hint that now was not the time to go into protective father mode.
"Oh, uh, sorry Rory."
"It's fine, mom. It's not like Luke will tell the town. It's… uh, Logan's.
"Logan? I didn't know you still saw him."
"Well. I did."
"Did? As in not anymore? He doesn't think he can just get out of being a parent does he?!"
"Luke!" Lorelai snapped.
"Sorry I just...I want him to be there for her. If that's what she wants I mean. Is it?"
Rory shook her head. "He doesn't know."
"Oh. Look, I know this isn't my business but as a guy who didn't know, he had a kid until that kid was 11...I just think he should know... sorry I know it's not my place…"
"No Luke It's fine. Your right. I know what I need to do now. Thanks."
Luke nodded, "No problem. And congratulations Rory. Your gonna be a great mom."
Rory gave a small smile "well, I had the best possible role model."
