An Escape and Rescue

Death, It was the main thought of a young man running for his life in the African Savannah.

Why?

Because he just witnessed his mother, father and older brother get killed by some poachers all because they prevented them from taking down an elephant they wanted as a prize.

This wasn't supposed to happen. It was supposed to be a fun trip with the family where they'd see the African wildlife with their own eyes.

This young man is 19 year old Lance Harper. He has brown hair and brown eyes with a tanned skin tone due to his father being a Comanche Indian.

He has just been able to outrun the poachers in the bush.

He kept his ear out for them in case they haven't stopped chasing him.

It seemed that they indeed stopped chasing after him and with this, he for the first time broke down, crying knowing that he had lost his family. And not only that, he's all alone in the wild which meant that he'll more than likely die out here.

He won't be able to do the things with his family like fishing with his dad, which gave the two time to themselves and hang out. He wouldn't be able to continue the cooking lessons his mother gave him or play video games with his older brother, Kieran.

He doesn't have a chance out here, especially if he encounters lions, rhinos or hippos since he doesn't have a spear or a bow and arrow, which he was a master of. All he had with him was a knife with him.

He stayed in the bush until he suddenly heard howling laughter from what to be hyenas and roars from a single lion or lioness. It was in the distance and he could've sworn he heard words being spoken.

Lance decides to follow what he's hearing and when he reaches a small hill, he lies down to avoid getting seen, he sees a whole bunch of hyenas surrounding a lioness, who was backed up against a tree.

"Back off! I can take you down!" The lioness roared. Now the fact that a lioness could talk would normally shock other people. But with Lance, he wasn't since he always felt that he could hear all kinds of animals talk.

"Sure, we outnumber you and you're far away from your precious pride." One of the hyenas mocked. Lance's sadness now changed into anger at what he is seeing. He knew he had to do something for the lioness, though all he had was the knife in his hand. He ultimately decided to just face the hyenas.

With this new determination, he got back up and marched to the commotion. As he got closer, the lioness noticed him and was a bit worried. The hyenas saw that she wasn't paying attention to them and turned to see Lance as well.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" One of them asked.

"I don't know, but he does look delicious." Another commented. Lance glared at the hyena who said that, showing his knife fully.

"Listen, you slabs of meat, I just lost my family to my own kind. I ain't in the best mood right now and you're just what I need to take my frustrations out." Lance snarled menacingly, even making the lioness feel threatened.

"Get him, boys!" One of the hyenas shouted and they all charged at him, but Lance was able to dodge all of them and even cut the last one on one of their back legs, making him yelp in pain. The lioness was a bit surprised by the display.

The hyenas snarled at Lance as they surrounded him. He kept looking at all of them to make sure they didn't make sudden attacks.

Then one of them leaped at him and while he stabbed him in the heart, the hyena managed to strike his claws at his arm and stomach, cutting deep enough to draw blood. Lance hissed and groaned in pain as the hyena's limp body fell to the ground. He still had to deal with 3 more of them.

The lioness now started to get worried for the human as his new injuries were bleeding quickly.

"Come on!" Lance challenged, not letting his injuries get the best of him. Two of them charged and they leaped at him, which made Lance grab them by their necks and bang their heads together, making them dizzy which allowed Lance to be able to stab them, killing them instantly. But this left an opening for the last hyena to attack Lance and struck him on the leg and now with the loss of blood and the new injury, Lance fell on his back, losing consciousness as the hyena loomed over him with an evil grin on his face.

"Time to take you out of your misery." He said and was about to bite down on Lance's neck but the lioness roared and tackled the hyena, shoving him away from Lance and swiping him across the face, leaving three scars on his face.

"You're lucky this hairless ape arrived, princess." The hyena stated before running away to somewhere out in the savannah.

Lance's vision was becoming blurry and blackness was creeping in. He wasn't even scared of death as it meant he could be with his family again. He saw the lioness looming over him and he heard her speaking but he couldn't hear her clearly.

"Go on… you're safe. Just… leave me…. Leave me to die…." Lance said slowly just as he lost consciousness, embracing the darkness and afterlife.
