Hey babes! Back again with a new piece for this universe! How are we all doing after that finale last night? And who read the interview that was released that Monica Macer (showrunner) did about the end of the season and the plans they had going into season six? Because I did, and oh man. We really need a season six now. If you haven't read it, I suggest that you do.
And now onto the story! This is just a little something I started a little while back, and it's finally finished.

Enjoy!

The sound of crying is hardly ever a good thing. Especially when Mac is entering the home that's only occupied by him and his heavily pregnant fiance. His mind immediately takes him down a million different paths, most of them bad. There aren't many good situations he can think of that could have Riley crying, especially this far into her pregnancy.

He follows the sound, setting his keys and wallet aside as he passes through the front room. He veers off to the right, Riley's crying getting louder, and frowns when he finally spots her. She's standing in the middle of the kitchen, her head bent slightly and her shoulders shaking.

"Riles?"

She lifts her head to look at him, tear tracks on her cheeks and her hands carefully cradling her belly. She sniffles. "Hi."

"Hey." He moves closer until he's standing right in front of her, cupping one of her cheeks in his hand. "Are you okay?" He rests his other hand on the swell of her pregnant belly, right over one of hers. "Is it the baby?"

She shakes her head. "Baby's fine."

"So then what is it?" he asks, his mind still racing with dozens of possibilities, though a lot less now that he knows it doesn't involve the baby. "Why are you crying?"

"I...I dropped my Milky Way."

He pauses, his brows furrowing together tightly as her words sink in. "What?"

She sniffles again, wiping the tears off her face with the sleeves of her hoodie that's actually his. "I wanted a candy bar, so I got a Milky Way because they're my favorite and I haven't had any problems eating them before. But this time, I was opening it and my hands are so damn swollen now that I lost my grip on it. And it fell. I tried picking it up but I can't because of this," she emphasizes her words by running her hands over her belly. "And I haven't stopped crying."

"How long ago was this?"

She swallows. "Um...maybe...ten or fifteen minutes?"

Mac fights back a laugh, pulling his lips in tight as he shifts on his feet, grabbing his fiancé's shoulders to look her in the eyes. "So you've been standing here for ten minutes crying because you couldn't reach your candy bar?"

She narrows her eyes at him. "It's not funny, Mac."

He chuckles. "It's a little funny. I'm sorry the baby has prevented you from enjoying your favorite candy bar."

"Yeah, you should be sorry," she remarks. "It's your fault I'm like this."

He raises a brow. "My fault?"

She nods. "Yeah."

"Alright, well, if my memory serves correctly, you weren't exactly complaining when the creation of this baby was happening. In fact, I'm pretty sure you were the instigator that night."

Riley grumbles. "Stupid New Year's with its stupid champagne and you in that black suit."

Mac chuckles lightly, squatting down to grab the opened candy bar, one hand still resting on the side of Riley's belly. He looks at her with a smile as he holds the candy up to her. "For you."

She smiles as she takes the candy from him. "My hero." She giggles and then takes a bite out of the candy bar, her eyes closing as she lets out a small moan.

Mac smiles as he stands back up. "I don't know how to feel about a candy bar being able to make you moan like that."

Riley opens one eye to look at him and smiles. "Trust me, babe, nothing can make me moan like you can."

"Well, that's certainly nice to know. Are you feeling better now?"

She nods, stepping forward and leaning against him as she lets out a breath. "Much. I'm tired from crying, though."

"Of course you are." He wraps his arms around her and drops a kiss to the top of her head. "Why don't you finish your candy bar and then go get some rest? I have a few things to take care of and then I'll come join you."

She tilts her head back to look at him. "Promise?"

He smiles softly. "Promise."

.

.

.

"Mac?"

"Over here," he calls from his place sitting on the couch in the living room, his brows furrowed tightly together as he fiddles with his latest contraption, different tools and random supplies spread out all around him.

Footsteps hitting lightly against the hardwood floor get closer and he automatically shifts a little in his seat. He smiles when Riley sits down on the arm of the couch and then leans against him, her cheek resting against the top of his head.

Riley lets out a yawn. "I woke up and you were gone."

"I know. But I had this idea...and I was hoping to get it done before you woke up." He looks up at her with a teasing smile. "You should have kept sleeping."

She smiles, running her fingers up through his hair. "Bed was lonely without you in it. Baby girl kept kicking me too."

He just smiles at her words, presses a kiss to her stomach with a mumbled "stop hurting your mom", and then turns his attention back to the skinny pole in his hand, tinkering with the claw at one end of it.

"So what are you making?"

"Something for you."

"Me?"

He nods. "Mm-hmm." He laughs quietly to himself when he hears the tell-tale sound of a candy bar wrapper opening. "And now it's all done, which means we can test it out." He turns without a second thought, grabbing the candy bar before it reaches Riley's mouth, and tosses it onto the floor.

"Mac!" Riley shouts. "Seriously? What the hell was that for?"

He gives her a pleading look. "Okay, okay, I know. And I'm sorry. But it's the perfect moment to try this out."

Her eyes narrow at him. "Whatever this is better be really good, Angus MacGyver, or I swear I'll...well, I don't entirely know what I'll do yet. But whatever it is you won't like it."

"And I completely believe you. But will you please try this out now?"

Riley huffs, pushing against him and the couch so she can stand up. "Fine. What is it?"

He smiles brightly, holding the contraption out to her. "It's a candy bar grabber. One that's specifically designed to pick up dropped Milky Way bars."

Riley nods slowly, taking the pole. "Okay. But since you're here, I can just have you pick up the Milky Way for me." She gives him a sweet smile.

He chuckles. "And normally I would. But the next time I'm not here and you drop a Milky Way, you can use that," he says, pointing at the pole. "Please just humor me?"

Riley sighs heavily, one hand resting on her belly. "Fine."

Mac watches closely as Riley takes a few steps forward and then uses the pole to easily pick up the Milky Way bar off the floor. She immediately tosses the pole next to him on the couch and then takes a bite out of the Milky Way. She smiles brightly. "Works like a charm."

He chuckles. "Glad to hear it."

She takes another bite, chews, and then swallows. "Though, I am wondering why you built me a grabby thing instead of just buying one."

Mac shakes his head, shifting a little on the couch. "The fact that you would even suggest that is offensive." He smiles when she nudges his shoulders. "Most of those don't even work properly or are way too expensive. And besides, this one is specifically designed to pick up Milky Way bars. I took into account how tall you are and your arm length for the pole section, and then the actual size of the average Milky Way."

Riley just smiles as she lowers herself into his lap, one arm looping around his neck to keep herself upright, her fingers automatically finding their way into his hair. She leans forward to kiss him. "I love when you talk nerdy to me. And you're right. It's perfect. Thank you."

He smiles back, wrapping one arm around her waist and leaning back into the couch, pulling her with him and resting his other hand on her belly. "Anytime."

Riley's head ends up on his shoulder as she continues to eat her Milky Way, the wrapper crinkling as she pulls it back.

Mac just smiles to himself and lets his eyes flutter closed, drifting off to sleep to the familiar smell of his fiance's coconut-scented lotion and her hand running gently through his hair. She was right. This is perfect.
