A/N: ok so I'll try keep this brief, this story will mainly be a Subaru x Rem fanfiction that I've decided to work on but this won't be a Subaru x Rem story in the traditional sense, as in Subaru being reborn into the Oni village as an Oni of course and meeting Rem and Ram so this story will be taking place in the past. This story will follow some main story plot points but it will mostly be its own thing
Secondly I should mention Subaru will not have RBD, meaning no restarts, the only power he will have will be his Oni power, so keep that in mind.

Chapter 1: Reborn
?: "This is for the best my love, so please forgive me ok"
?: " i can give you a new life, one where you can start over without feeling the burdens of your past"
?: "So please forgive me, i don't want you to suffer alone any longer"
?: "I hope you may find peace in your new life"
It was just another day, birds were chirping, the sun was beginning to rise, a very peaceful setting for a shut in Neet named Natsuki Subaru sleeping in again. While he overslept not wanting to go to school for today a very familiar sound he heard came into his room which was about to ruin his peaceful sleep.
?: "Good morning my son!"
Ahh! Screamed Subaru as he was awoken by his father who just tackled him in his sleep.
Subaru: "Hey what's the big deal I was just having dream that I was on a date with a hot chick!, i'll never get use to you waking me you know"
Kenichi: "Ah my bad, my bad my son, it's just that…you looked so peaceful in your sleep, it would have been a shame not to wake you" Kenichi said in a joking tone.
Subaru: "Well it doesn't matter anyways, not like it was real" Subaru said in a disappointed tone.
Kenichi: "Well maybe it could be real if you just went to school for a change instead of complaining about it"
Subaru: "…"
It was common knowledge at this point that Subaru didn't like going to school, its not that he didn't like the work or anything, it's just that he has trouble making friends because of some personal issues, at least that's what he said, even though it was far deeper than that.
Subaru: "It's not like I don't try ok…its just that…you know what, forget about it, it's not important" Subaru said under his breath.
Kenichi: "hmm what was that? I can't hear you"
Subaru: "it's nothing alright, lets just leave it at that!"
"…"
?: "What's all the commotion going on in here, did something happen?"
Kenichi: " Oh it's nothing don't worry about it my lovable wife, me and Subaru here were just having a father son conversation"
Subaru: " it's nothing like that, he just barged in here and woke me up from my perfect dream"
In the doorway of Subaru's room a woman stood there, with long brown hair and brown eyes that were as sharp as knives, and was very beautiful but didn't look her age.
Naoko: "Oh ok well when your done can we eat breakfast, i'm getting hungry, I put a lot of effort into the meal today"
Kenichi: "alright in a bit, we'll be there" he gave her a smile
Naoko smiled back then walked back into the kitchen to wait for them.
"..."
After a few seconds of silence Kenichi spoke up
Kenichi: "Subaru" he said in a serious tone
Kenichi: "When we're done let's have a little chat, just the two of us ok?"
Subaru, a little surprised by his fathers sudden change in tone, agreed to his request.
Walking into the kitchen Naoko waved at them sitting at the table.
Kenichi: "sorry to keep you waiting my beautiful wife, me and Subaru just decided after breakfast to have a little father son chat"
Naoko:"Oh ok i'm fine with that, just sit down you two, the food will get cold"
Subaru looking at the table noticed the meal was what he usually ate, some rice, with a little soup, but one thing he noticed that he hated was there, peeze.
Subaru: "Thank you for the meal" he said while eating his meal
As they were eating their meal, Subaru heard a bowl shift over to his side of the table, the bowl of peeze from hell that his mom passed to him.
Subaru: "no thanks, i'm good on the peas" he shifted the peeze to his father.
Kenichi: "Oh no i'm also good on peas, i'm actually full right now" Kenichi shifted the bowl to Naoko.
Naoko: "Oh i don't like peeze they taste nasty, and they're shaped weird" she said as she shifted the bowl back to Subaru.
Subaru: "Mom why do we have peas on the table if no one is going to eat it?"
Naoko: "Well because you need to eat vegetables to make you strong and healthy so i made them just for you"
Subaru: "Well, i'm good on the peas so maybe the husband should take responsibility for his wife"
Subaru trying not to eat the gross Peas before him tried to pass them back to his father, maybe he might be kind enough to help his son out he thought but was countered by Kenichi passing it back.
Kenichi: "Subaru you know there's not a lot of families out there like us who are able to bond like this" he said with a grin
A few minutes later
Subaru: " i can't believe we actually ate all of that, i'm going to puke" Subaru said feeling stuffed.
Kenichi: "Well then come on Subaru i'll race you outside let's go!" Kenichi said getting up from his seat pointing to the door.
Subaru: " i'm coming, i don't know how you can still be so energetic after eating all of that food"
Naoko: "you two be safe now" Naoko said waving them off.
Walking outside near to the park, Subaru sat down on the bench near the park while Kenichi went off to the vending machine.
Kenichi: "Here you go Subaru, you thirsty?, here's a soda"
Subaru instantly catching onto his fathers games took the drink from his hands then opened it on the sidewalk
Kenichi: " tch"
Subaru: "Don't cluck your tongue at me, i know how you think"
Kenichi: " wow i didn't know you knew your old man so well, that makes me happy"
Kenichi wanting to break the tension between them finally spoke up
Kenichi: "So Subaru the reason i brought you here is because….it's….about school, what's been going on, after a while you just stopped going is there a problem? If its a bully i'll come beat him up for you"
Subaru: "What? it's not anything like that, i can handle myself you know!?"
Kenichi, laughing a bit, sat down on the bench next to Subaru who was frustrated by his fathers sense of humor.
Kenichi: "Sorry, Sorry didn't mean to make you mad but seriously Subaru, what's going on, me and your mother are worried about you, are you feeling well, you can tell me anything you know? That's what fathers are for"
Subaru: "Yes i'm fine it's just that...School has just been tough lately with the deadlines and my social life...can we not talk about this?"
Kenichi: "Subaru, it's about time you tell us what's been going, enough hiding" Kenichi said in a worried tone
Subaru: " I don't want to talk about it ok" Subaru said with his voice starting to break
Kenichi: "Subaru, i'm your father, i want what's best for you, you can tell me"
Subaru: " I don't want to dammit!" he said standing up from the bench with tears in his eyes
Kenichi: "Son" he said standing up as well hugging Subaru in a tight embrace
Kenichi: "please" he pleaded
Subaru: "it's just that, school has been such a pain lately trying to make friends and impress people, i'm always trying my best to impress everyone, i just want to be more like you, that's what i've always wanted, it's just that i could never do it, so i stopped trying, and it just got to me" Subaru said while crying in his fathers arms.
Kenichi: " it's ok Subaru you don't need to do anything for anyone, you are your own person, you can live your life the way you want to, no one is stopping you"
They shared this moment together in complete silence, deciding it was about time to go back home, the two walked back home where they were greeted by Naoko.
The next morning Subaru was greeted the same way by his father, ate breakfast, but this time there was a slight difference to Subaru's schedule.
Subaru: "Dad i'm going to take your advice, from now on i will live my life the way i want to, i'm done trying to impress people, so i decided it's about time to go back to school, heh, i wonder what everyone will say when they see me back"
Kenichi: " Well good for you my son, I'm glad you're finally taking my advice to go back to school, hey maybe when you go back you can meet a cute girl and bring her back here to introduce her to us" Kenichi said jokingly.
Subaru: "ok that's enough out of you, i'm going to go tell mom i'm going"
Kenichi: "ok Subaru, Take care" Kenichi said waving goodbye
Subaru: "alright dad" he said walking away
Subaru walking into the living room greeted his mom, to tell her the news
Subaru: "Mom i finally decided to go back to school, i'm going to do whatever it takes to make you and dad happy, i'll become a son you can be proud of"
Naoko: "Oh i'm so happy, please be safe"
Subaru: " i will mom, see ya" he said with a smile as he walked away.
Naoko: "Subaru" he looked back.
Naoko: "Take care" she smiled as she waved him goodbye
Subaru: "i will mom" he said waving back
Subaru walking down the street felt a mix of emotions, on one hand he felt enthusiastic since he was finally able to do something for a change to make his parents happy, but on the other hand he felt scared that maybe he might not be able to live up to his parents expectations.
Subaru: "no stop thinking that way, i shouldn't think that way anymore, i promised dad that i will live for myself and be my own person from now on"
Subaru walking down the street for a few more minutes felt a bit sleepy, was it the fact that he woke up late this morning, Subaru thought
Subaru: "Well if i'm tired it will wear off soon, hopefully i'm not late to school back on my first day"
Walking a bit more Subaru started to feel a bit more sleepy, his eyes began to shut, but his legs also felt worn out, like he was about collapse
Subaru: "come on, what's going on now"
Subaru began to become more sluggish, then finally his eyes shut completely and his legs gave out collapsing him to the floor
Subaru: "what just happened? Where am i? Why can't I speak, or feel my body?
Subaru only was able to look around, then he noticed that he was in a different setting, it looked like a village
