Summary: What if after your death you were given a second chance to live again?
For Hayley Smith, it was more the start of a never-ending nightmare, when after her passing she ended up opening her eyes as Hayley Marshall, a fictional character who only existed in a TV series that she used to follow.
A character she considered a bitch and hated with all her being, so the last person she would have liked to be reincarnated in!
I opened my eyes, confused and wondered if I was in the afterlife because before I lost consciousness, I was sure I had been killed in the plane crash since it was humanly impossible to survive such an accident. I looked around and saw that I was in a ladies restroom. I lifted my head and frowned when I faced a young woman with olive skin, hazel green eyes, and dark brown hair that was slightly curly at the tips. She was quite tall and had an athletic figure that suited the models parading for the world's biggest luxuries.
I remained dazed for a moment, unable to think properly because the reflection that was sent back to me did not correspond at all to the face which was familiar to me and which belonged to me.
"Hayley, if you don't get changed quickly, Oliver is going to fire you so swarm!" threw me a blonde with quite thick makeup who had just left one of the cabins.
She admired herself in the mirror and redone her hairstyle before leaving the bathroom while reminding me one last time to "move my buttocks" at the risk of ending up in the street without a penny in my pocket.
I ignored her words and stared at myself again or rather the one in front of me before massaging my temples as I tried to find a logical explanation for this situation because the girl who looked at me confusedly looked horribly like to the character of a TV series that I was watching not so long ago. A character I hated with all my guts but my aversion to a woman who didn't even exist was the least of my concerns since the most important thing was how I had managed to find myself in such an incredible situation.
Was I in Heaven? Or was it hell? Since I was certain that I died in this crash, it was now important to know what sort of world I had ended up in, but in view of recent events, I would rather lean for hell because waking up after his death in the body of a character you hated from the bottom of your soul was never a good sign.
My gaze fell on a purse, which I hastily opened and scrutinized almost under a magnifying glass all the documents I came across. So I discovered that Hayley was born on June 6, 1991. A birthday that I didn't know since I had very little knowledge about the character and I had even forgotten the real name of the birth of the girl. I knew she had been adopted and belonged to a powerful New Orleans werewolf clan that had been cursed but nothing else that was really relevant since I had barely watched the Vampire Diaries spin-off.
"Arrrg…" I growled, irritated.
I continued to rummage through the bag and found that the wolf had only a hundred dollars on her, her IDs, the keys to a car, a cell phone and some makeup tools but nothing else that could be relevant and shed light on my current situation.
I sighed in annoyance and closed the bag before leaving the bathroom without bothering to change. I didn't know who that famous Oliver was but if he was going to fire me then so be it because I was out of the question for me to stay another minute here. I had answers to go find and it was surely not in such a place that I will find the answers to my questions.
I walked through a relatively dark hallway and entered what appeared to be a pretty disingenuous club where men over 30 with fairly rounded bellies were drinking alcohol at the bar while drooling in front of barely older girls that Hayley wiggled on a dance floor lit by shimmering lights.
I paused briefly before continuing my way out of the club but was accosted by a man sitting at the corner of the bar who grabbed my arm and pulled me sharply closer to him. I narrowed my nose, disgusted by his body odor. He reeked not only of sweat but also of alcohol and cigarettes.
"So, sweetie, aren't you going to dance for me tonight?" he whispered close to my ear.
A shudder of disgust crossed my body and I hurried away from the man, violently pushing his hand away from my arm.
"Don't touch me, you dirty pig!" I spat reluctantly.
"Damn, dirty bitch! Who are you calling dirty pork?"
The man had risen from his seat and was looking at me furiously, his face flushed with anger. Although I might be scared by the situation, I still put on an arrogant expression. I did not know how to fight but if my deduction was correct and that I was in the universe of the television series then, that would mean that the brunette was a wolf now so that she held in her a superhuman strength. So I didn't fear anything in front of a half-drunk human.
"What are you going to do, you dirty pig?" I challenged him, smirk.
"Damn, I'm gonna…"
"I don't want a fight in my club, Ted," a blond man in his forties interrupted.
"It's that bitch…"
He hardly had time to finish his sentence when I punched him in the face which made him retreat several meters before collapsing on his buttocks, unable to stand on both legs.
"The first insult, I could tolerate it but certainly not the second and even less the fact that you dared to put your shit bag paws on me" I growled, enraged.
I was satisfied when I noticed the man was bleeding profusely from his nose. It was obvious that the force of my blow was strong enough to break his nose and it was certainly a little pain compared to what he really deserved.
I turned on my heel, left the club that had been momentarily silenced by the altercation that had just taken place, and headed for the parking lot, looking for the wolf's car.
"Hayley!" they called out to me.
I turned and saw the blond from earlier who had tried to come between me and the bar customer approaching me.
"Where are you going like that? You were late for work today, you hit clients and now you want to come home when you haven't even started your night ?!" the blond asked, puzzled.
I assumed he was the famous Oliver the blonde told me about in the bathroom when I first came into this world.
"I'm quitting," I said simply, returning almost immediately to find the wolf's car.
"What? What do you mean you're quitting? I remind you that you begged me to get this job and now you're throwing my face around that you're quitting? If it's for…"
Eventually I found the much-wanted car so I quickly got into the vehicle and drove off quickly, leaving the blonde behind me without even giving him a last look. I took the road without really knowing where to go but I needed to get away from this unsavory place before I found myself in a miserable or dangerous situation. Although I hated the character of Hayley, I was very happy that she was a supernatural being because without her extraordinary physical ability it would have been almost impossible for me to get out of this place without any damage, but I certainly did not thank her not to work in such a debauched place!
I drove for a long moment before pulling over to the side. I took the phone that was in the bag and geolocated myself to find out my location. I discovered I was in colorado, a few minutes from the city of Denver.
I took a moment to think about my situation and tried to find a solution that was acceptable while waiting to understand how I had managed to reincarnate in a fictional world. Currently, I was known as Hayley Marshall.
Why did she have to be chosen for my reincarnation of all the characters in the series? Karma was really a beautiful bitch!
I gritted my teeth, still unable to believe my bad luck.
Why hadn't I reincarnated in Caroline Forbes, in Bonnie Bennett or even in Jenna or in an insignificant human character of the series? Why did it have to be the female character I hated the most on the show? I would have even happily welcomed a reincarnation in the body of Katherine Pierce, even if it meant having to run incessantly and be stalked by Klaus!
Thinking about it a little more deeply, I realized that maybe my situation was not that bad. I was in Hayley's body but hardly needed to behave like she did on the show. I would just have to be the same as when I was alive and everything will be fine.
I let out a wry laugh, comforted by my own conviction. I noticed that it would take me a day to get to Mystic Falls. I didn't know anyone in this world so going to Virginia seemed like the right thing to do, at least to be surrounded by familiar characters. Also, I would need a fairly stable place to reside and Mystic Falls was a city that attracted all supernatural beings. Maybe there I will find some answers to my questions.
I hit the road again, this time to the small town in the state of Virginia, sometimes stopping at gas stations to refresh myself or to rest for a few hours.
When I finally approached my destination, I felt my heart pound in my rib cage and my hands became clammy. I dreaded my arrival in the city because I had no real plan and I had no money left in my pocket. From what I knew of the characters, Hayley was a girl with no family or relatives who had been making a living from pack to pack since being kicked out of the house by her adoptive family. She had no ties and therefore had to manage very young to survive in this world. Although I sympathized somewhat with the young woman because I was now in her place, it didn't stop me from thinking that she was still a cold, unconscious slut who had slept with one of my favorite male characters and who had the audacity to get pregnant with him just after one night! Either she was super fertile or Klaus had super potent sperm to create life in just a few hours!
When I saw the sign announcing that I had finally arrived at my destination, I suddenly braked and let out a howl.
"WHORE !" I cried in a desperate tone.
I leaned forward and banged my forehead against the steering wheel of the car.
What a jug, I thought with tears in my eyes.
I landed in a town where no one knew me and hoped to live there peacefully? Hell, I was even dumber than usual. How was I going to live in Mystic Falls without a penny in my pocket and no one to welcome me there?
"What should I do ?" I mumbled anxiously. "Maybe I can introduce myself to the Lockwoods. They're a werewolf family after all. If I'm talking about Mason, maybe… but what season are we in first?"
I sat up abruptly, suddenly remembering that I had no idea of the current chronology of events. Depending on the season we were in, maybe I could improvise better.
But how could I find out?
I glanced at my cell phone to find today's date and frowned.
August 29, 2009
This meant that the beginning of the series had not yet started since it began on the day of the start of the school year.
I went through all the characters who could help me and who could be trusted. If I made it to the Salvatore boarding house, I would attract Damon's attention unnecessarily and could end up being killed by him. Stefan surely couldn't help me since he was obsessed with the Katherine lookalike he had saved from drowning.
So I crossed the Salvatore brothers off my list. It was impossible for me to ask the Forbes for help since judging Sheriff Forbes' character, she would be suspicious of me and maybe send me to social service or something like that. The Lockwoods could do the trick since I am a wolf but nothing was certain because the mayor had not triggered his curse and I was not sure he was aware of the gene that was passed on in their family. I could pass myself off as a friend of his younger brother's but he would definitely ask the werewolf about it and it would end badly. There were the Bennett's but I couldn't remember if Bonnie's grandmother was hostile to werewolves or not.
I might as well contact Elijah. He was surely a man of words and could offer me food as well as food, but he was an original vampire who could force me to reveal all my secrets before tearing my heart out. Also, I didn't know how to contact him.
There were also the Gilberts, but I didn't want to live under the same roof as the double Petrova. Besides, what bogus excuse could I present to Jenna? It wasn't like I could pass myself off as John's illegitimate daughter or even Grayson's.
"What a mess !" I yelled, exasperated.
I was lost in my thoughts, imperatively seeking a solution.
"ALARIC!"
Yes, the history teacher was certainly the most qualified character to help me. He was loyal and protective of the people he loved. Besides, he was a human so I could fit more easily into his life.
But what a pity that I am not a vampire! I could have forced him to accept me in his life without having to find a lie for it!
Since I was not in a position to hypnotize him, I absolutely had to find a concrete enough story that could in no way make him doubt me. But what lie was I going to be able to invent? Fortunately, I knew the professor's past at least fairly well. This will surely allow me to flesh out a credible story.
I restarted the car and drove to Duke.
