"Uh Bailey, what are you doing Saturday night?" Richard asked sitting his tray down on her table in the cafeteria pulling up a chair.
"Nothing." Miranda said confused.
"Well not anymore. You're going out with me."
"Sir might I remind you that I'm married and so are you. And also might I add that your my mentor and friend." Miranda replied moving her hands as she spoke emphasizing her points.
"Not like that Miranda. I need you to go with me to Mercy West's Ball. Adele was suppose to but she's mad at me and is refusing to go. I already put down a plus one so It will look bad. Its for charity Bailey."
Miranda was still not impressed she kept sipping her milkshake staring at him.
"Come on Bailey , You already said that things were bad at home with Tucker again."
"Exactly that's why I need to be at home with him and my baby."
"Come on Miranda. Do it for me please."
"Okay Sir, but you're getting a limo and you're buying my new dress."
Miranda said smiling with a glint in her eye holding out her hand for his monetary donation.
Richard clicked his teeth saying "fine." Pulling out a credit card. "You already know the pin."
"I do." Miranda smiled putting the card in her white coat.
"You paged?" Callie said walking into the lounge.
"Yes what time do you get off today?" Miranda asked.
"In about two hours, why ?"
"Richard is taking me to Mercy West's ball and-
"Wait what! The Chief asked you to be his date to the ball. You both are married. You both may not be happily married but you're married." Miranda laughed a little because she thought the same thing.
"Uhh not like that. Adele won't go with him because she's mad, so he asked me as his friend to go with him."
"So how do I play a roll in this?"
"To help me find a dress." Miranda said smiling.
"Ok yes I've been waiting years for this opportunity. Callie shouted and jumped up and down excitedly.
Miranda raised her eyebrows "years for this opportunity... um Torres are you saying there is something wrong with my choice of dressing."
Callie instantly wiped the smile off her face. "No ,no it's not anything wrong with the way you dress. You are just what's the word... conservative."
"I am not conservative." Miranda said crossing her arms.
"Yes you are. You have a beautiful body. I mean the most perfect shape. Nice set of boobs and a huge ass, but you rarely show it."
"Maybe that's because I'm at work." Miranda shot back.
"Okay whatever you say." Callie said smiling.
Miranda waited for Callie to get off before they met back up in the attending's lounge.
"Let's just go." Miranda said with an attitude and Callie shuffled and grabbed her things.
Arriving at the mall. Callie and Miranda walked around looking at dresses.
Miranda tried on her third dress and she hated all of them. Callie was right she should show her shape more. She had an amazing one. She didn't feel that good about it. Tucker and her were not having sex. He barely looked at her. She honestly didn't know how her marriage got this bad and she was convinced that he was seeing another woman.
"Okay Callie. Let me try on your options."
Callie clapped her hands and stood handing her three dresses.
Miranda tried the first one and laughed.
"Callie are you out of your mind this is still a work event." She said walking out. She had on a black sequin dress that had the highest split ever.
"It's still sexy." Callie chimed.
"Overly sexy." Miranda muttered. "I want to look sexy but not like a hooker."
"Try the next one." Callie said waving her hand.
Miranda pulled the dress on and looked at herself in the mirror. She loved this dress. It was sexy, but classy. It hugged every curve in her body own. Her breast was spilling out the top and she probably would need to wear a thong which she hated.
"Oh my God. Damn Miranda. This is the one." Callie commented when she walked out in the off the shoulders mermaid champagne satin gown.
"You don't think it's too much." Miranda said shyly.
"No it's perfect. Now we just need to find you some heels and accessories. When is this ball again. "
"It's Saturday."
"Okay great today is Thursday. So we have plenty of time. What do you want to do with your hair?"
"Um I'm going to make an appointment and probably get curls and have it pulled back but half up half down.
"That will be cute and your doing your own make up or you want me to. "
"I can do it. I don't want you to leave work early just for that."
"I would though."
"I know you would." Miranda smiled.
"Let's get something to eat then find accessories and heels."
"Okay good because I'm starving."
The two got situated and where eating Chinese food when Callie spoke.
"Tell me what's going on Miranda. It's written all over your face."
"It's just... I think Tucker is cheating on me." Miranda said slowly.
"Awww Miranda why do you think that?"
"When I'm home he leaves and doesn't come back till late. He says that he's hanging with his friends, but I don't think that's true. At first I thought he was leaving as a get back because he quit his job and stays home with tuck. So when I get off he leaves the baby with me. But now he's always on his phone and he hangs up or closes it out when I come into the room. We don't have sex and Tuck is almost 2.
"Miranda maybe he's telling the truth." Callie said unconvincing.
"You don't even believe the statement that just came out your mouth."
"I'm sorry Miranda. You know I don't like him. So this is pissing me off."
"I know. I just don't know how it got this bad. I can't give up my career. I love him and I love my baby, but I love my job too. Why can't I have them all?" Miranda asked on the verge of a break down.
"Miranda honestly... maybe it's time to let go. You deserve to have it all. You can have it all. I don't want to go all spiritual on you but God puts people in your life for a reason and Maybe Tucker was placed for this season. You need to find who you are and what makes you happy. Truly, genuinely, unmercifully happy. I have a feeling Miranda that you love him, but I'm not sure if you are truly in love with him. Being in love and loving someone is two completely different things." Callie told her holding her hand across the table.
"When did you become so wise Callie Iphegenia Torres?" Miranda huffed quite proud of her best friend.
"I learned from the best." She smiled.
"You did." Miranda chimed.
"Let's get off that topic and finish eating, so we can spend more money off of the chiefs card."
Miranda smiled and nodded her head. After shopping with Callie. Miranda drove home and walked in the house.
The living room was Empty. She walked quietly through the house and opened Tuck's door and saw him sleeping.
Walking over to their bedroom. Miranda looked in the crack of the door and saw that her husband was on the phone. She couldn't really hear because of his whispering. So she Just pushed the door open.
Tucker eyes got wide and he immediately hung up the phone.
Miranda stared at him for a minute before he spoke.
"Hey babe. You're off early." He noted.
"I am. You didn't have to hang up the phone. Whoever you were talking to doesn't deserve a so much of a goodbye?" She asked sternly raising her eyebrow.
"I was on the phone with one of the automated people. Trying to track my delivery." He lied.
"Mmm, did you find it and what did you order?"
Tucker paused for a moment and Miranda stood trying to see what lie he was going to come up with.
"I ordered the piece to Tuck's bed that you asked me about."
"I asked you to get that months ago." Miranda stated crossing her arms.
"I know, I'm sorry Miranda." Tucker responded wiping his hand across his face.
"You know what, it's okay. When is it going to be here?"
"It will be here Tuesday. " he confirmed.
"Okay did you eat dinner yet?" She asked putting her things down and walking to her dresser drawer.
"No not yet. I have to wake up Tuck, then I was going to order something."
Miranda pulled off her pants and shirt walking pass Tucker to their bathroom.
"You just going to walk pass me no kiss or anything." Tucker said nonchalantly walking up behind her.
"When was the last time you kissed me?" Miranda asked getting more pissed off. She waited on his answer after awhile she spoke pushing him back.
"My point. You haven't kissed or touched me in months. So let's not start tonight." Miranda gritted out getting into the shower. She didn't want him to touch her let alone kiss her. He was just guilty for whatever he's doing.
After taking a long shower Miranda threw on a nightgown and walked out into the living room. Her face lit up when she saw her son.
"Hi, mommy's handsome man." She smiled extending her hands out.
Tuck stood and ran into her arms.
"You missed me." She sung pecking his cheeks.
"We both do." Tucker announced.
"I'm sorry. I will get better hours once I am an attending." Miranda told him for the millionth time.
"And how long have we been waiting for that. Time is moving Miranda. Tuck is almost 2."
"I don't want to argue Tucker. You knew this was my dream and what I wanted well before we got married. I'm not giving it up, I literally don't have that much longer until I am an attending."
"So you wouldn't give up your job for your husband or son." Tucker countered.
"Why should I have too?" Miranda questioned. "This shouldn't even be a question." She added.
"Miranda I-" he started.
"You don't want me to be happy?" She asked softly.
"Why can't your family be enough to make you happy?"
"The same reason, my son and I aren't enough to make you happy." She spat. More so talking about his cheating.
Tucker stared not knowing what to say. He didn't know what she was implying.
"Miranda you both do make me happy." He answered.
"If that was the case you would not complain about quitting your job to take care of our son. Which I told you not to do."
"I'm done talking about this Miranda."
"Nothing ever gets solved." Miranda huffed. "What did you order?"
"Pizza, wings, and a salad." Tucker informed.
"Did you eat already or-"
"I didn't yet?"
"Okay let me make everyone's plate." She stated going into the kitchen.
Miranda brought Tucker his plate and cut up the pizza for Tuck. She sat beside Tucker and fed her baby.
"Thanks."
"You welcome."
"I'm going out on Saturday." Miranda told him cleaning up the kitchen.
"Let me guess work." Tucker said with an attitude.
"No it's not work. I'm going out with Webber."
"Didn't you all have your monthly dinner last week?" He questioned.
"Yes we did. He invited me to a annual Ball with him, so I am going." She told him and he rolled his eyes.
She watched as he walked out of the room and he didn't speak a word. She eventually made her way to their bedroom and slid into bed and sleep found her.
Miranda woke up to the vibrating of Tuckers phone. Everything in her wanted to check and see who was messaging him this time of night, but she respected his privacy and wouldn't do that.
She turned on her side and closed her eyes, then it went off again. Miranda turned back over and hit Tucker awake.
"Cut that phone off before I throw it against the wall." Miranda snapped.
Tucker jumped at her words and did as told, but stayed on his phone a little while longer. Miranda stared up at the ceiling and waited for the room to become dark again.
She could honestly say she wasn't happy. She wasn't happy at all.
