Those simple three words. So easy to say, so easy to forget. He could never forget it, it runs through his veins. Could she really be the one for him? Or was she just a girl who made him who is. The one who broke his heart, the one he felt could never hurt him.

Katara ~

The girl that ended the war with him. The girl that he fell for, the one he couldn't let go of. Her, the one, his everything, that particular one. But she hurt him, more than he had been ever hurt. She rejected him, ̶H̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶a̶ ̶k̶i̶d̶.̶ ̶

Was he just a kid? Was he even the avatar, the man who defeated the Firelord?

He had to leave. What she said, what she did. " Y-You like me? "

" No. You're just a kid Aang! "

" I hate you! "

" Get away from me. "

Echoing in his head, never understanding why. Did he hurt her, do something wrong? Fail her, disappointed her?

If he wasn't the avatar, would she have loved him? Would it have been different, would she have broken him? Could this have been avoided?

" Aang. "

" You have to go to the south pole. "

"You're the avatar. I wish we could help you, but we can't. "

Four years and he couldn't move on. Even his past lives couldn't help him, they couldn't do anything. But he had a job, even if he wasn't ready to face her again. After all these years, seeing her again.

He wasn't ready, not for this.

" Avatar Aang? "

" Are you even listening? " The Chief yelled at him. He was lost in thought again, just like he always was.

" Huh? "

" Oh right, uhm, th- "

" Rebuilding of the temple. " Aang said with a harsh tone in his voice.

" Is now a bad time? "

Starring with a blank face, he could barely even pay attention to these meetings. It didn't even make sense to even have to attend these anymore.

" No. "

" Of course not, please continue. " He said realizing the whole table had been staring at him.

" R-Right, back with the temple. "

He never got a break from being the Avatar, it was always this, that, or that, nations. Never giving him time to heal or even try and move on from her.

Closing his eyes, she echoed in his head. Those same words, that same day, the same everything. But then again it felt so real to him, almost like it was happening every second of every day.

Could he ever let her go?

" Aang, go take a walk. "

" You need it, no excuses. " He said as Aang stood up not saying anything as he walked outside.

It had been different, cold, warm, different? Normally his body didn't mind the cold, but he wasn't the same as he was the last time he had been here.

He was In love. Not knowing how much she could have hurt him in such a simple way. Just those three words. Broke him, tore him in part.

Being here was different. He wasn't in love anymore. He was in pain. It was impossible to be in love again. (That's what he thought. )

" Katara! "

" Seriously? "

He just stopped hearing her name, he was weak to her. He always had been.

" A-Aang? " Katara said, stopping as she looked at him.

Different, Dark, tall, forgotten and used.

" S-Sorry. "

" Can I help yo- "

" K-Katara. " He mumbled at the end as she blushed, she fucked up so much in the past he could still love her.

Looking at her, he noticed the blush on her face. Did she have feelings for him? Was he seeing things?

No, he couldn't feel like this. Not toward her again. She hurt him, used him. Broke him in half. He couldn't ever feel like this toward her or anyone ever again.

" Aang? " Sokka said, turning away from his sister, staring at him. Almost like he was a ghost. a nobody. He was nobody to them. They called him family, saying he was their family. But it was a lie. Just a huge lie, to get him to help him. Even if it meant hurting him.

Aang couldn't say anything. He had words he wished to say. But nothing would come out of his mouth. Almost like he was holding back. Holding back from the truth. Holding back from breaking down in tears.

He wanted to shout and yell. But that wasn't him. Even if he was cold or different. He was still the boy they met. Even if he felt he lost every part of him when she did what she did.

" Sokka. " Aang said quite loudly. He expected himself to say something else but all he could say was that. ' Sokka. ' Such a simple word but something he could barely say.

She might have broken him. But Sokka didn't do a thing to stop him. Or any of them. What great friends they had been.

He felt like he was going to break down. Going to just fail, everything. Like everything he tried to push away was right here. Right in front of him. Telling him to face his nightmares. Saying he needed to do something, anything.

" w-wow. Man, I haven't seen you in such a long time. " Sokka chucked out. He was smiling? He was happy to see Aang again. But it was a lie. They didn't care. They only cared for the avatar. That wasn't him. It couldn't be him. Even if he was seen as a hero to others. He never felt like a hero.

" Hey. "

" y-yea it's been a while n-now. " Aang stuttered out. He couldn't look at them. Just looking at them, would break him even more. It would kill him. Thinking they just let him leave. Let him go.

He felt like he was just breaking even more at Sokka's voice. " Hey. How's everything been for you. It's been like three to four years since I last saw you. "

Could he tell the truth? Telling them both, he's been terrible. Feeling like he couldn't live anymore. Feeling like he lost everything?

Would they feel bad for him? Would they even care?

" Good. "

" Just been busy with A-Avatar stuff, and all. " Aang said finally looking at Sokka. Expect avoiding eye contact with Katara and Sokka. He did just lie, to them. He if was caught.

It wouldn't end well. Would it? " Uhm- what about you? " Aang said with a smile, trying his best to stay calm.

" Pretty, good. Pretty good I'd say. "

" Actually I have something to ask you, Aang. " Sokka said with a smile. What did he need to ask him? Was it about happened?

If that was the case. Aang was in trouble. A lot of trouble.

" Y'know that someone has to represent the water tribe in republic city? I was kinda hoping you would be okay with me. Doing that. " Sokka said with a worried smile.

Everything had to run by Aang. Before anything could be done. That meant so much pressure on him. Meaning he was in everything for republic city.

Aang didn't have the words of what to say. If he said yes to Sokka's question, then it meant them being closer together again. Being like a family again.

But was he ready for that?

" Aang? " Katara finally said after moments of silence. She actually said something. The first time since she rejected him.

He was still quiet, unsure of what to say. He thought he was meant to have the answers for everything. But looks like he didn't.

" I would love that Sokka. "

" Would help to be with friends again. It's been a while anyway, I'd like for you to represent the water tribe in republic city. " Aang finally said as he kept blinking for a minute. Realizing what he said.

' I would love that Sokka. '

He said that. He really said that. It may not have been a lie, but that wasn't something. He thought he would have said.

Maybe he still had a chance to be himself still. " R-Really? " Katara stuttered out in shock.

" Great! That's amazing, I'll tell dad right away. " Sokka said with a beaming smile as he ran toward the city hall of the water tribe.

" G-Great. " Aang said with a faint smile as it quickly changed to a straight face. Just as he noticed it was now only him and Katara.

" So. It's been a while Aang. " Katara said with an unknown look if she should even be saying anything. She put him through so much. Yet here he was with her, not running away just yet. " ye-yea it has been awhile Katara. " Aang said this time looking at her straight in the eyes.

Eye contact.

"How's everything, really been? I could tell you were lying to Sokka. " Katara said with a stern look in her eyes. She always could tell when he lied to her. Even if Aang didn't want her knowing.

" What do you think. "

" S-Sorry. I wasn't thinking when I said that. " Aang said already apologizing for what he said. He already messed up in his mind. " No. I deserve that. "

" I wanted you to honest, and you just were. " Katara said crossing her arms. She wanted to say sorry. She wanted to apologize to him. But something held her back.

" I- Should be getting on my way. The council must be wondering where I went for such a long time now. "

" We have much to be doing. L-lovely to s-see you again. " Aang said bowing his head as he turned to walk away. Just like he thought she wasn't going to stop him.

Not like he had faith she would anyway.

" A-Aang. " Katara tried saying realizing she wasn't even saying anything. " Aang im sorry. "

" For everything. " She said shocking herself. She didn't think she had the nerve to say that to him.

" Sorry? " Aang said in shock. She had the nerve to say that.

After everything.

Everything she put him through. She put him through so much, just say sorry?

" You think sorry will fix everything. You hurt him, broke me, ripped my heart in half. And after all that you can just say sorry? "

" Aang. " Katara tried saying realizing someone was looking at them. He needed to shut up. Aang was going to cause a scene.

" I couldn't do anything for months. I was ready to give up. But I forgot. You never cared for me. You only cared about my title of Avatar. " Aang said with an angry tone, turning his back to her.

" Aang you're going to cause a scene. Is that what you want. " Katara said with a mix of anger and sorrow in her voice.

Right.

She didn't care. Never did never will. " Right. "

" I have to go as I said before. Goodbye Katara. " Aang said with a miserable voice tone.

He thought he couldn't be hurt by her again.

But just Aangs luck. Somehow he is. Somehow she managed to hurt him so much more. So much more than when she rejected him.

Almost as much.

Maybe. Maybe not.

" Aang. " Katara whispered with him walking away.

She fucked up.

Again.

Great, she messed up for the second time. This time risking something more than his and her heart.

Something greater.

Something she didn't know of yet. Im sorry wasn't enough. Why did she think it would be.

Guilt filled their heads.

Guilt.

" Avatar Aang, there you are. "

" Now abo- "
