This fic was inspired on a one shot called ´´Beyond the Coast Line´´ by roxan1930. I found the concept and premise to be cute and adorable. However, I did some changes to make it more like a continuous story. I hope you all enjoy; this won't be a long fic.

On the waters of Japan.
The ocean, a place full of mystery and enigmas. Even thought it has been explored by centuries, nobody knew the majority of secrets that the waters have. We all know what lives in the darkness and what could possibly be on the bottom of the sea. But what if there were something more…mystical in these waters. Something more in the realm of fantasy and disbelief. Well, the world was about to discover in a few months.
Some fisherman were fishing on the waters of Tokyo at night to grab the next day meal. However, one of the man who was with a fishing rod, felt that there was something else in the water. It wasn't like a big fish, it felt more like a huge thing.
''Huh?" Asked the fisherman looking around and saw something big in the water making noise and he could swear that he saw the color orange nearby.

'What is that!'' Scream Fisherman #1
''What?" Asked Fisherman #2
''I saw something swimming there. It had a huge tail.'' Said the fisherman #1
''It might be a dolphin.'' Said Fisherman #2 with a bit of sense.
''I don't think dolphin live in Japan anymore.'' Said Fisherman #1.
''You must be with a cold. Let's get back, we got enough for 3 days.'' Said Fisherman #2.
''Sure. Let's leave, I think the cold is playing trick on me.'' Said Fisherman #1 trying to make sense.
However, as the man leave off with their boats, three figures pop their head of the water to see if the coast was clear.
''Did they leave?'' Asked a little merman called Norman.
''Emma you idiot! We were almost spotted.''' Said another merman called Ray.
''Sorry Ray. I didn't mean to it.'' Said the mermaid, Emma.
''You are supposed to stay hidden. Otherwise, they are going to get us.'' Said Ray all pissed.
''Hey cut it out. We were caught, so we are good.'' Said Emma.
''A mermaid or a merman can never be spotted by a human. That's the rule!'' Said Ray poking Emma in the head.
''I know.'' Said Emma all sad.
''Let's stop with this. We are all fine, lets just swim.'' Said Norman as the trio started to swim on the darkness.
These are Emma, Norman and Ray three merman people that lived by themselves ever since they meet each other as kid. The truth about Mermaid people is that they are an almost extinct race, there are few of them in the world and these three only knew each other. They learned to talk thanks to studying the human language and learned to read thanks to time and concentration. Emma's tale was an orange/yellow hybrid, Norman was a little lighter almost like white and Ray's tale was almost a dark tone. The trio had traveled all over the waters in the continent and always stayed together, as they are aware they are the only family that each of them have.
''Hey want some fish?'' Asked Norman to Emma as they swim in the depts of the ocean.
''Yes.'' Said Emma with a smile
''Ray?" Asked Norman.
''Sure.'' Said the dark-haired merman.
The trio spotted a group of fish and started to snitch them and eat like animals. Thanks to their sharp teeth and claws it was easy to grab and feast on them.
'They are so tasty in the water.'' Said Emma.
''They taste better when we are out of water. Don't you think Ray?" Asked Norman.
''I don't care.'' Said the dark-haired merman boy.
However, Emma while eating was thinking a lot lately and that got the attention of her friends.
''Emma what are you doing?" Asked Norman.
''Sorry. I was just daydreaming.'' Said Emma.
''Again?" Asked Norman.
''Is the humans again. How many times did we told you to stop it.'' Said Ray
''They are so fascinating. I mean I know we don't know any other merman people, but don't you feel a little bit intrigued for what they have.'' Said Emma.
''I know, they are a fascinating specie. But we can't show ourselves to them. We will be capture.'' Said Norman comforting his friend.
''Yes. But is good that we have our tails and guilds that help us swim pretty fast. While humans have those weird looking things on their hips. What are they called?
''I think they are called ´´legs´´'''' Said Norman.
''So weird.'' Said Emma
''Stop with this. Let's just eat.'' Said Ray
The kids eat their fish and after a few minutes they swim a little more. Soon Norman realize something.
''It's quiet.'' Said Norman.
''Yes, it's a good sign. There is no boats nearby. We can poke our heads out of the water for a while.'' Said Ray.
''Maybe we can hunt for seagulls later. I mean the sun will come out in a few hours, so we have to think of our breakfast.'' Said Norman with an idea.
''Sure.'' Said Ray.
However, Emma was not feeling all that energetic today. She usually love to hunt for seagulls, but her mind was in other places lately.
''Emma what is wrong?'' Asked Norman.
''I don't know why…I keep thinking of the humans we keep seeing these days.'' Said Emma.
''You are way with your head in the clouds. You know the rules.'' Said Ray.
''Of course, I know. But what if not all humans are bad? What if some of them are nice and become our friends? Ever though of that?'' Asked Emma curious.
Norman was seeing Emma with a pity look, while Ray only looked with an annoyed look. Once again, she was with this idea to talk with humans.
''Emma. We understand your curiosity. But the world isn't ready for this.'' Said Norman
''If they catch us, we either will be dissected, eaten or tested for experiment. We will be fish in a tank literally.'' Said Ray all serious.
''I know. But...'' Said Emma trying to argue back, but it was too late.
''Stop with this crap. Not again.'' Said Ray annoying.
''We are trying to protect you Emma. If something happen to you, both me and Ray will be completely devastated.'' Said Norman.
Emma could see the seriousness and care in both her best friends' eyes. She loved to travel the waters and swim with them for hours, but she sometimes wanted to try something different and new. But it appears for this mermaid, this would only be a dream.
''I love you two, but I wonder sometimes what could be awaiting us.'' Said Emma.
''And we love you too Emma. But we need to protect you.'' Said Norman.
''So stop daydreaming. Is going to be a while before you actually talk to a human.'' Said Ray.
Emma didn't like the way that Ray talked to her. It sounded very mean and harsh.
''A mermaid like me also deserve to dream. I dream to one day being friend with a human.'' Said Emma all sad.
''Emma.'' Said Norman seeing his precious friend all sad.
The two saw Emma actually crying a little bit while they were in the water. While her tears weren't appearing, they could see her sad expression.
''I just…'' Said Emma.
''What?" Asked Ray
''I thought we can meet new people and have more adventures.'' Said Emma.
Norman now could see what Emma was saying. It wasn't she was tired of the same thing, it that she wanted new things in her life to improve her zone of comfort.
''Are you really going to talk to a human?'' Asked Ray.
''Ray.'' Said Norman in shock.
''No.'' Said Emma admitting she wasn't ready to do something major like this.
''Then I apologize for my behavior Emma. If is your dream to some day talk with a human, I will help you out. But not so soon, let's give some time.'' Said Norman.
Emma felt a little better now that Norman apologized, now she wanted the other to also do that.
''Hey!'' Said Norman.
''Sorry too.'' Said Ray with an annoyed look.
Norman and Emma all giggle about that. Ray wasn't the best when it comes to emotion, but he was their friend anyway.
''Ok, I forgive you two.'' Said her hugging the two.
Emma hug made both boy's blush. Of course, only knowing only one girl all their life, both mermen had feeling for her.
''So, what we do now?'' Asked Emma
''How about we find some rock and take a nap. I am not in the mood to eat seagulls now.'' Said Ray
''Yes, this is a good idea.'' Said Norman.
Emma however was not in the mood to sleep now. She had a lot to think about it.
''Can you two go on the way. I want to swim a little bit; I am not tired yet.'' Said Emma.
''Ok.'' Said Norman.
''Fine.'' Said Ray.
Emma swim into one direction while the boys went to another.
The mermaid thought on her ideas to meet a human for the first time, sure it was a little bit imaginative and not at all real, but she hoped to some day meet humans and make some kind connection with them.
''One day I will talk with humans. They will see.'' Thought her as she swim to a dark abyss in the sea.
She thought of all the cool things that human have that she couldn't. Stuff like cellphones, shoes and all kinds of other things.
''All those nice things that the humans get to have.'' Thought her.
One thing in particular that she was dying to try was a dessert that is apparently very good.
''Ice cream.'' Thought her.
The girl saw the kids and adults all licking that delicious sweet in the coast or in their boats. Every time they drop some in the sea, it melts really fast. Emma wanted to try the real thig, but she couldn't do it. She was a mermaid.
''What would I do to be human for a day.'' Said her all sad.
However, while she was saying that outload, she thought she was alone. Except she wasn't.
''Psst.'' Said a weird sea creature.
''Huh?" Asked Emma confused.
''Right here.'' Said the creature.
The little orange hair mermaid saw what looked like an ugly eel and had a deformed face.
''Who are you?" Asked Emma.
''My name is Luce and I know someone that can grant your wish.'' Said Luce.
''Who?" Asked Emma
''I can show you the way to her.'' Said Luce.
''Who. You haven't said who are you taking me to see.'' Said Emma.
''The sea witch Sarah. She is an old mermaid that has learned the power of sea magic. I can totally see her granting your wish.'' Said Luce.
Emma couldn't believe this. Another mermaid, she was dying to meet another one.
''Sarah, is she a mermaid like me?" Asked Emma.
''Yes, she is. She is the oldest and wisest of mermaid.' Said Luce
''And she can grant any wish?" Asked Emma.
''She can grant any wish in the world. Trust me, she is that powerful.'' Said Luce.
Emma looked with hope in her eyes. However, Ray warning came in her head.
''Wait a minute, is this a trick? Are you trying to capture me?" Asked Emma.
''Oh no. I am just a mere servant, I swim in these waters to talk about the great sea witch.'' Said Luce.
''Really?" Asked Emma.
''Yes, she grant my wish to become an eel. Now I can fit in places that I never thought I could pass through. However, there is a price for the wish.'' Said Luce.
''Price what is that?'' Asked Emma.
''Oh, don't worry. It depends on the wish, maybe is nothing. What do you say?'' Asked Luce.
Emma didn't know what to do. Norman and Ray told her, never to be caught in some sort of trap, but this one didn't see like one. It sounded like something she could trust, after all a mermaid was behind this.
''Just a little talk will not hurt.'' Said Emma
''That's the spirit'' Said Luce.
''Ok, lead me the way.'' Said Emma.
Emma followed the Eel to a deeper and darken part of the abyss. It was too dark that only her eyes could see, any human would have died from the pressure or the lack of air, but this was not a problem for the mermaid.
Meanwhile in a random sea cave.
''You should try to be a little nice with Emma.'' Said Norman.
''Oh, stop with this. Just say you love her already; I am fine being alone.'' Said Ray annoyed.
''But her dream is a possibly. Besides you also want some things from the human world, like dry books?" Asked Norman.
Ray was caught by that. He would love that, all the books he ever found in the ocean it would take a while to dry. He wanted dry things to read.
''Yes, it would be good to read something dry for once.'' Said Ray.
''don't you think Emma dream might be a good idea?" Asked Norman.
''But they aren't going to accept us like we are just a regular thing.'' Said Ray.
''Ok, we need some time to think about it.'' Said Norman.
''Let's give her a while and let's not speak of this again.'' Said Ray.
'Fine.'' Said Norman.
However, Emma hasn't returned. Call those two paranoiacs, but they worry sometimes because Emma alone cant be a good think.
''Weird. She should had returned any minute.'' Said Norman.
''I wonder what happened to her.'' Said Ray.
''Let's go!'' Said Norman already swimming.
''Seriously?" Asked Ray swimming alongside him.
Meanwhile
''Miss Sarah. I brought ´´a new guest´´.'' Said Luce.
''Oh great.'' Said the sea witch.
The witch was preparing something out in her cauldron. Whoever the new guest that Luce has brought, it would be a great add to her future plans.
