i. the fates

"Perseus Jackson," Clotho murmurs

"Yes, he is the one," Lachesis agrees

"The hero that connects them all," Atropos said

"To change the past," spoke the fates, "and fix the future,"

"To find what is needed,"

"And see it restored,"

"Saved,"

"Found,"

They gathered the brilliant sea-green thread, weaving it through the others, and waited for the arrivals.

Percy knew something was wrong when everything froze. Not everything, but that wasn't exactly encouraging. A few people who had been preparing for the attack from the Labyrinth were like him - still moving, unfrozen. It was a weird combination of them - himself, Annabeth, Grover he understood, but some of the kids from the other cabins surprised him; Clarisse, Katie Gardner from the Demeter cabin, Will Solace from the Apollo cabin, and a few others.

Percy's heart pounded in his chest as he exchanged looks with Annabeth, tensing as he immediately thought of Kronos. A warm, yellow light quickly dismissed that thought, though, and he didn't have time to ask what was happening before everyone was pulled into it.

The seven, Nico, Reyna, and Coach Hedge stood gathered at the Argo's hull, getting ready to bid farewell. With Nico, Reyna, and Coach getting the Athena Parthenos tightened and gathering supplies to set off towards camp, the rest of them anxiously waited.

Being out in the middle of the sea had its perks - it was harder for some monsters to get to them, it provided a safer way of travel - but being unable to realize when time stopped was not one of them. The only thing they had to go by was the ship rocking to a stop, Coach Hedge freezing, and the blinding light that appeared in front of them.

"What the hell is that?" Piper asked nervously.

"...It looks like..." Annabeth tilts her head to the side, narrowing her eyes, "When a God disappears,"

"Oh yeah, 'cause that's so reassuring," Percy murmurs sarcastically but follows her as she cautiously thrusts her dagger into it. Nothing happened.

"It doesn't look threatening," Leo mutters

"Oh, well, if that's the case, then surely it's safe," Reyna says, rolling her eyes.

Leo shrugs, "Well, what else can we do?" Nobody had an answer.

Annabeth messed with the light a bit more before sighing, "I guess he's right. There's not much else we can do. Except see what it is."

"I hate this plan," Frank says.

"Welcome to the club."

vi. 2004

The Gods gathered for their annual Winter Solstice meeting, tried to figure out a solution for any upcoming events through their ridiculous arguing. It was the usual - "Mother Rhea loved you best", "Sea disasters are better than air disasters", "You're a terrible mother", etc. - when they were interrupted by two lights. The Gods immediately came to attention, the only thing able to create these, other than the Gods themselves, of course, being the fates, and they only intervened when it was vitally important.

Twenty-two figures stumbled out of them, obviously confused and disoriented. There was a beat of silence until Zeus resigned to the fact that this was, in fact, the doing of the fates, sighed, and waved his hand in the air.

"Alright, who are you, why are you here, and what have you got to do with the fates?"
