Cam fingered her bubblegum-blue hair as the class lecture inched slowly through her day. She looked up at the clock to see how much longer she had to endure this torture. It was 2:44, which meant six more excruciating minutes until she could go home and escape the fiery pit of a classroom in which her math class was held. Normally she would be taking notes and doodling in her notebook to pass the time, but this was the last day of school, which seemed to make the day extra long.

Six minutes may seem like a short amount of time to the average person, but not for Camellia Butterfly. To her, it seemed like time always went slower at the most inconvenient of times. She tried to get her parents to look into it, but for some weird reason they wouldn't. It's not like it would be a problem for them, they were LITERALLY the king and queen of the Mewni territory. But they just HAD to be taking care of her younger twin sisters 24/7. At least she had Zinnia.

Zinnia was Cam's best friend and had been since the second grade. They had been paired up for math group one day during class and had bonded over sharing the name of a flower, though each named for a different reason. Zinnia was named for her skin tone being similar to the flower while Camellia was named for the little reddish flower marks on her cheeks. Later during recess, some kids had started teasing Zinnia for her horns, so naturally Cam punched their leader in the nose.

It may have costed missing the rest of recess, but that was a price she was willing to pay for gaining a Zinnia as a best friend. They had been playing in the mud and baking together for five years after that. They had actually both planned a picnic together that after school day at the old fountain.

After school.

Cam looked back up at the clock. One minute left. Her smile slowly grew each second as the clock ticked towards her freedom. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

Papers flew through the air as kids yelled and the bell sang its glorious chime, as if it were saying, "Yes, children! Run! Fly free towards your heart's greatest desires!"

Cam grabbed her picnic basket and raced towards the school doors. She had made it outside before everyone else, which made it feel like she was running from a stampede of angry cattle who had just jumped their fence. Despite this, she was excited and sprinting in the direction of the old fountain.

——————————

The old fountain was just about the weirdest place for two best friends to hang out. It was a fountain sitting in the middle of a little valley sort of area with young grass sprouting out all around. The fountain alone was the weirdest part, however. It was more of a well, really, but it had a weird old guy fashioned all about it like an old mewman fountain, so they just called it that. Despite all this, it was perfect for Cam and Zinnia. Cam's mom had showed her this place when she was really little, and it seemed secluded enough from other people so it was the first place she thought of when she wanted to be alone with her friend.

——————————

By the time Camellia reached the old fountain, Zinnia had already spread out the picnic blanket and sitting on it waiting for her. Exhausted from sprinting the whole way there, Cam face planted onto the blanket, almost crushing the food in her basket. Zinnia quickly grabbed the basket from her hands and immediately began to lecture her on being careful while carrying food.

"Careful, Cam! You could've squashed the food!"

"Nah, you know how I am with food. I'm only allowed to demolish it when I'm eating it."

Sigh* "I should of left making and bringing the food up to me."

Cam sat up and started to unpack the tupperwares and canisters containing the food she had made last night and responded, "But you didn't. And that's a good thing, cuz now we get to eat my food rather than your," Cam's voice changed to a nasally, snooty voice, "filthy peasant food."

Zinnia facepalmed and shook her head in an attempt to cover her smile, which was not successful. She then changed the subject to something more serious, "So, um... how's your family stuff going?"

Cam fell backwards onto to the blanket (almost landing on the food again) and sighed. "I don't know... the twins keep acting like brats and it feels like nobody cares about me anymore. Mom and Dad only seem to either care about work or those two. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth it anymore, being in this family."

She looked towards Zinnia, expecting a look of shock or disappointment on her face. To her surprise, Zinnia seemed to agree with her. "I know," she said, her eyes trailing away from Cam's. "My parents are like that too, always busy." Zinnia looked as if she was about to say something, but kept it to herself and started picking at the grass beneath her. Cam knew she could delve deeper into the subject, but she also knew that now was not the right time. "Quickly, she changed the subject, "Y'know what's weird about it all? Luna and Angelica don't have the little face mark thingies on their faces. Isn't that odd? Do you think it's like, some sort of genetic mutation?"

Zinnia looked back up from her grass and raised an eyebrow at her. "You do know your mom used to have them, right?"

"Wait, what-?"

Cam sat back up and stared at her friend. Zinnia looked a little surprised, but proceeded into a small history lecture. "Yeah, all the Butterfly women did. It showed that you had magic. But then Meena tried to start a magical war, so that's when your mom went to the magic realm to destroy all magic. Weren't you paying attention during history class?"

Camellia sat in disbelief. "Like, Meena as in 'crazy dungeon lady' Meena? And magic as in... MAGIC!?"

Zinnia slowly nodded, as if she expected her to know this. Cam grabbed her friend by the shoulders and started shaking her, saying, "WHY WOULD SHE GET RID OF MAGIC I MEAN SERIOUSLY HAS SHE LOST HER MIND-"

Cam then realized what she was doing and let go of her. Zinnia looked a little dazed, but continued, "She's tried to bring it back before using a spell, but since there's no magic left, a spell wouldn't work. She said something like..." She snapped her fingers, trying to bring her self to remember, then continued, "Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic."

"Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic?" Cam repeated. The ground beneath them shook a little. Cam and Zinnia looked at each other in shock, before she repeated, "Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic." The ground shook again. The shaking seemed to be coming from a center point. "Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic." Yes, it seemed to be coming from the fountain. Cam stood up and started walking slowly towards it. "What are you doing?" Zinnia asked, but Cam seemed to be in her own headspace at the moment.

Cam walked up to the fountain and repeated, "Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic." The ground shook again. Yes, she was certain it was coming from here. Somehow she knew what to do. She took a deep breath and placed her hands on the smooth stone surface of the fountain. She then began,

"Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric..."

The shaking had turned into a full-on miniature earthquake. She could hear Zinnia screaming, but it was faint and muffled, as if she were far, far away...

"Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric..."

Veins of gold dust echoed through the air with each repetition of the spell. Slowly, she was starting to notice white silhouettes fade into existence around her.

"Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell..."

Yes she could see them now. There were a bunch of lading all standing in a ring around her, all of them frowning, eyes glowing white, but she knew they were looking at her.

"Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic. Mend the bond, stitch the fabric, reverse the spell, bring back the magic..."

Another ring of silhouettes faded in around her, this time, there were only four of them. She immediately recognized the one closest to her as her mom, but much younger. She looked her in the eyes and somehow knew what she was saying. She didn't want another Meena happening. Somehow, Cam knew how to fix this. She then started a new spell, in order to protect the people from the magic:

I break the seal placed upon ye

So I can set the magic free

Spells abolished now are to be used

But this power must not be abused

I keep this blessing from the greedy

And give the magic to the needy

Those who are blessed must deserve it

And must know when to reserve it

Now mend the bond

And stitch the fabric

Reverse the spell

Bring back the magic!

A brilliant ball of light was conjured atop the fountain and the silhouettes frowns changed to smiles. Suddenly the ball expanded and all Cam could see was white. She heard something that sounded like a distant whisper at first, but soon it got much louder.

Cam...

Cam...

Cam.

Cam!

"CAM!!!"

Cam looked around. Everything seemed much bluer than it was before. And... wavy. Suddenly she was pulled up out of the water.

"Cam, what was that!?!? Are you alright!?!!"

Cam looked her friend in the face and immediately knew something was different. Was it her hair? Her nose? No... Zinnia had 2 very new pale green spirals on her cheeks.
