Summary : Sawada Tsunayoshi figured that all the crazy things that could have happened due to him being involved with the mafia has already occurred. Now his only wish is to just get through the usual high school insanity as smoothly as he can.
His hopes are heightened when his childhood best friend returns to Namimori, he thinks that she may bring back some normalcy to his life, however those dreams are crushed when some strange characters trail behind her, he then discovers that his best friend also has secrets of her own.
"Hey , Nana?'
"Yoriko-chan?"
Nana faced her brown skinned friend.
"Do you think my little one would turn out to be a daddy's girl?" asked the heavily pregnant woman while staring at her belly with somewhat a sad expression.
Nana Sawada knew exactly what her friend was feeling. She had asked her friend similar questions herself throughout her pregnancy. The Brazilian-Japanese woman was always by her side, reassuring her, even with being pregnant herself. So it came as a bit of a shock that her friend had asked her a question of that nature.
See, both women had husbands who are constantly away. this shared experience caused them to bond over the blatant lies they knew their men tell. Ridiculous, repetitive excuses rolled off their tongues every time they had to leave suddenly. In addition to the social exile and neighborhood gossip they were both subjected to on a daily basis.
Despite all the facts to fuel Nana's doubts, Yoriko had always seem so confident in the strength of her child's relationship with her father would turn out; while Nana had not been sure if her Tsu-kun would even recognize his father the next time he visits, far less develop a proper bond.
"Nana?"
Just how the mixed woman was there for her it was now Nana's turn to comfort her friend.
"Yoriko ,just like my Tsuna, when your little girl sees her papa she'll hold on to him and never let go!"
She exclaimed as loud as she could without disturbing her sleeping baby next to her.
The long haired woman practically shines while grabbing her best friend's darker woman smiles fondly at her friend.
"You're right Na-chan, besides, somebody has to be on meu marido estúpido's (my stupid husband's) side when he starts to grind on my nerves."
Another thing both women bonded on was learning how to constantly disrespect their husbands in various languages, and Yoriko was teaching Nana Brazilian.
"Riko-chan~ don't act like you don't love it when Rinaldo-kun is being particularly annoying~" Nana said using air quotes around the word annoying, determined to win the endless game of wits going on between then.
Yoriko's eyes widen a little while the skin of her brown cheek heats up slightly . Nana grinned in triump. She had thought that she had finally rendered the woman speechless that she had finally won-
Yoriko leant back and giggled softly.
Oh no. her smile drops
"That's funny that you would say that to me Na-chan"
Oh no.
"I can talk about all the annoying things you tell me Iemitsu does to you that gets you hot and-"
"a-ah Riko not in front of my boy-!" Nana pleaded, feeling her cheeks heat up.
Riko didn't stop there. Seeing her bestfriend squirm at her implications made her only want to press on.
"But Na-chan I just want him to know about the big celebration you and his Pa had when you told him you were having Tsu-chan." she stated as innocently as her face can allow
"I mean it had to be a big bash since I heard your voices all the way from my house down the street." She looked to her side attempting to stifle the laugh she had bubbling in her chest
Nana's entire face was burning while she giggled. Resigned to the fact that she will never win against the foreign woman. She sent a playfully irritated glance at her friend.
"You know what Yoriko, why don't you focus on popping out my future daughter-in-law" she huffed good naturedly turning away from the heavily pregnant woman.
"Nana the kid is literally three weeks old!" her friend playfully scolded her.
"I know, but.." Nana paused picking up her stirring baby.
" Even if the don't see each other that way , I at least hope they become the type of friends that never leave each other's side.."
Riko slid closer to Nana, smiling down at the sweet boy reaching out to her and giggling.
"It would be nice if they have the type of bond that would keep them together forever...so the both of them would always have a friend in their life."
The darker woman looked up from Tsuna to see the boy's mother with deeply sad almost depressing look on the normally cheerful face. Yoriko knew she had to grab her friend before she sunk any deeper.
"Wow Nana , you must really love those romance shows if you think that way about babies, eh, well baby and unborn baby." Riko took Tsuna from his mother when he started fussing and Nana curled more into herself.
"Not really Riko...I... I just don't want either of the ending up like this...like us." Yoriko saw her lip tremble and her eyes well up. She felt the same weight in her chest watching her friend"
"Waiting at home, not knowing when the men in our lives would come back...If they come back... being..being" She she trailed off bitterly as the angry tears fell.
"Lonely..." Riko finished her best friends sentence with a equally bitter smile.
Yoriko brought her free arm around, allowing Nana to sob on her shoulder. She had already experienced this particular type of sorrow earlier on in her marriage, and didn't want the Asian woman to delve further into that brand of sadness that she had once fallen into. Yoriko had no intentions allow her dear friend to feel the pain; should she fall apart, She would be right there for her.
When Nana stopped crying, Riko nudged her causing her to look up with tired eyes to see her holding her son closer to her face and gently squishing his cheeks to make his mouth open and close to match her words.
"Don't worry kaa-san! Tsu-kun won't ever treat his to be best friend, slash girlfriend like our sperm donors! Where Tsu-kun goes she goes and where she leads Tsu-kun will follow, so neither Tsu-kun or baby-chan would ever be alone!"
"Yoriko..." Nana snapped out of her trance and rubbed ferociously at her eyes and nose before taking her confused baby and showering him with kisses making him giggle.
Feeling pleased with how he navigated the situation, Yoriko closed her eyes and leaned back on the sofa they were both sitting on.
When Nana was finished drowning her boy in her love, she gazed at her friend, feeling grateful for the cool and calm woman being in her life.
"Baby-chan? Really?" Nana teased
"I don't have a name yet, get off my ass, Nana." Yoriko laughed softly at her predicament.
"...Riko-chan." Nana asked in a much softer voice
In response she opened a lazy eye to her friend.
"Thank you so much"
"Never worry about it,Nana." Riko waved her hand before forcing herself to stand.
"I heard there's this new cake shop that opened a few streets down- ah Nana?"
She looked about to see her friend shoving her feet in her shoes at the door
"I heard Cake and you're still sitting there Riko-chan!" she smiled at her friend and smiled even wider when her son started giggling joyfully.
She grabbed her friend's hand dragging her out the door
"C'mon Riko-chan"
"Take it easy Na-chan my feet hurt and my daughter is trying to kick my bladder out of my body! -"
"It's because she wants ice-cream and her mama's too busy complaining to walk!" she argued
"When did you get so mean Nana-chan!?" Riko complained while letting the smaller woman drag her down the street.
