Hi! This is my first story so I hope you like it! Sorry for any spelling or grammatical errors! Happy reading!
Annabeth
I screamed. It was my natural response. I almost never yell in pain when I get hurt. I hate people knowing that I'm hurt and babying me. I usually just tough it out and no one ever knows. When I screamed without even thinking about it, I knew that I was hurt badly. I had been practicing my fighting in the sword fighting arena. Even though I love fighting with my dagger, sometimes it isn't enough and I need something with a longer reach. I have been practicing with a sword and am definitely getting better. I was practicing and had already slashed five dummies. I went to "kill" the sixth one when I must have twisted my ankle the wrong way. Since my ankle never healed properly in Tartarus the slightest twist could make it hurt. I usually wrap it in an ace bandage and it gets better within a few days. This was different, I twisted my ankle and pain shot up my leg. I screamed in pain and crumpled to the floor. I looked down and saw that it was way worse than I could have thought. The bone in my ankle had snapped clean in half. One of the pieces of bone was protruding from my skin. The bone had broken in a jagged line and it was sharp as a knife. It cut right through my skin and I could feel blood soaking through my sock. I tried to sit up and tears welled in my eyes. I knew that I would never be able to make it to the infirmary. Percy somehow knew where I was whenever I yelled or screamed and I knew he would be here in a matter of minutes, but my ankle was bleeding a lot and I am probably going to pass out from blood loss or pain before he can get here. Luckily he was closer than I thought. Percy ran in, saw me lying on the floor in a pool of blood and kind of freaked out. His eyes went wide. He yelled "Will, we need you in the sword fighting arena now!" as he ran over to me. "Wise girl, you okay?" He asked, worry tainting every word. I just nod because I am focusing on not passing out. He looks over my torso to make sure that's not where the blood is coming from. The pool of crimson liquid is so big, it could be coming from anywhere. "My ankle." I whisper. His eyes jump to my foot. "Oh gods Annabeth!" He gently places my head in his lap as Will rushes in. "Annabeth!" He exclaims, bolting over to me carrying a stretcher. "Her ankle." Percy says, getting straight to the point. When my health or safety is involved Percy is all business. Will takes one look and says, "I need to get you to the infirmary and perform surgery on your ankle and give you a blood transfusion." I look into Percy's eyes. "I love you wise girl." He whispers in my ear as he and Will lift me onto the stretcher and I pass out from the pain of the transfer.
I wake up and see Percy sitting in a chair next to my bed in the infirmary. He is still wearing his bloodstained Camp Half blood t-shirt and jeans and his head is tilted to the side. I realize that he's sleeping and know that he hasn't left my side since he found me. "You drool when you sleep." I try to say, but it comes out as more of a hoarse whisper. He jolts awake. "Annabeth, thank gods you're okay." He gives me a gentle hug, being careful not to jostle my ankle. "No need to get mushy seaweed brain." I say, hoping to lighten the mood. "What happened?" I ask Percy. I remembered breaking my ankle but everything after that is hazy. He takes a deep breath. "Well, I heard you scream and ran to the arena. I kind of freaked out when I saw the blood." He gives a nervous chuckle. "Will got there really fast. We took you to the infirmary and he gave you a blood transfusion and did surgery. Normally he would just give you nectar and ambrosia but since your ankle never fully healed he put in a metal pin." He finishes by giving me another hug. "Wow," is all I can manage.
I get out of the infirmary in the afternoon. Will gives me crutches and tells me to be careful for the next couple days. I am going to stay with Percy in the Poseidon cabin so he can help me out. "Want to go to the amphitheater to relax?"Percy asks. "Sure," I respond, knowing that it's his favorite spot at camp other than the ocean and lake. When we get there Percy and I sit in the top row. We talk for a while and go over everything that happened today. When we get up to leave I feel a little dizzy. I tell myself it's nothing but as we start walking along the row my leg suddenly gives out and I tumble down the rows of benches. "ANNABETH," Percy screams, running down to try and catch me but it's no use. I try to grab the stone benches but my fingers just slide off of the rough rock. I roll down the tiers, bumping painfully on each bench. I figure that I will probably break more bones by the time I get to the bottom. Suddenly my head bangs painfully on a stone and everything goes blurry. I feel myself land on the dirt floor of the amphitheater and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. At least the worst of the pain is over. Percy bolts over and gently picks me up. I nestle my head into his shoulder and breathe in his familiar scent as I slip into unconsciousness.
I slip in and out of consciousness for the next few days. Every time that I wake someone new is by my bed, but no matter who else is there Percy is always by my side. I am in a haze of pain, everything hurts and nectar and ambrosia can only go so far. When I finally regain consciousness Percy and Will rush to my side. They start speaking immediately, both trying to get their word out first. "Stop," I say, knowing that I will get nowhere with both of them talking at the same time. "Will, you go first." Percy gives me an annoyed look. I roll my eyes, "Percy, he's the doctor." Percy gives a small humph but lets it go. Will gives Percy a playful "I won" smile, then gets serious. "Annabeth, you have to tell me where it hurts the most, okay?" I nod as he starts to touch different points on my body asking if they hurt. There is nothing more than bumps and bruises until he gets to my ribs. He gently touches my rib cage and I yelp. "Your ribs?" Will says questioningly. I nod, tears streaming down my cheeks. Will has a worried look on his face. He pulls Percy aside and talks to him. I know that it's not good. Percy has a grim expression as they walk back to me. "Annabeth, before I can give you an official diagnosis I need to check one more thing." "Okay," I respond. He holds up his finger and tells me to follow it with my eyes. I try my best but it seems harder that it should. After that he asks me some questions and does a few more tests. Will lets out a deep breath, "Well, Annabeth you have a couple of broken ribs, a broken ankle, and a pretty bad concussion. You need to be on bed rest for at least a week and I want to keep you in the infirmary to keep an eye on you." Well there goes me and Percy's plan for a romantic week in NYC. I know that Will is a good doctor and I trust him. "Okay, but will I still be able to work on my plans for Mount Olympus?" Will chuckles, "Maybe." With that he leaves. I talk to Percy for a little while but I get tired pretty quickly. I give him a kiss on the cheek as he leaves me to rest. "I love you seaweed brain."
